ZURICH ARENA P. 6 Thilt4A0Pott, tlkwiTrOw 45, 1969 FOR ALI.. Goock SPORTS By Ross Haugh A busy season This upcoming winter season promises to be the busiest ever for participants and fans alike. The number of district hockey teams competing in regular leagues is the largest that we can remember and other recreational activities organized by Exeter's RAP committee and recreational director Alvin Willert are giving people of every age an opportunity to participate in their favorite sport or hobby. First of all, on the hockey front, The Ontario Hockey Association Junior "D" D-ouping in this area has the Exeter Hawks, Zurich Dominions and Lucan Irish. Six competing asainst each other ensuring lots of rivalry between the three teams. All three clubs have a lot of youngsters that have at least a couple of years in junior hockey and they are sure to provide lots of exciting entertainment for the fans with their desire and hustle. In OHA Intermediate "B" ranks, the Lucan-lidertort Jets are back again playing their home games at the Randall arena at Huron Park. The Jets who bowed to the Durham Huskies in the seventh game of the group finals a year ago appear to have a stronger club going for them this year. They have come up with a couple of more former Senior "A" performers and the end of a five-year retirement for centreman. Max O'Neil will certainly help. Most of the Jet home games are slated for Tuesday nights with one Wednesday night and a boxing Day afternoon tilt thrown in. The Crediton Tigers after two straight successes in capturing the WOAA grand championship are back for a third try and will also be playing their home games at Huron Park, mostly on Sunday nights. The southern grouping of the WOAA has been strengthened considerably with the addition of the Seaforth Beavers. The Seaforth club were in. OHA Intermediate "B" ranks last year, but several of the older players were not interested in continuing because of the lengthy travel involved. Bob Beutnemiller of Seaforth told us last week he expected all of last year's team to be back including veterans Ken Doig, Jack Mcllwain and Gar Baker. Busy Week Ahead This coming week is a perfect example of what lies ahead for the winter for the hockey fans of the district. Tomorrow night, Friday, the Exeter Hawks under new coach Bob White take on the Mitchell juniors in the league opener at the Exeter arena. Sunday afternoon, the Hawks travel to Zurich to take on the Junior Dominions who are coached by Doug O'Brien. The same evening at the Huron Park arena, the Crediton Tigers play host to the Clinton Colts in their WOAA Intermediate opener. Tuesday night, also at Centralia, the Lucan-Ilderton Jets will be at home to the Elmira Polar Kings in their third start in regular league play. Wednesday night, the Lucan Irish Six juniors will be at home in the Lucan arena to the Exeter Hawks. The rivalry that has been existing between Dashwood and Zurich representatives on the ball diamond for many years and started up amin a year or so ago in reafeational hockey circles will have a real opportunity to get going this year. Both communities have entered teams in the WOAA Intermediate "D" grouping. The Dashwood Bears, managed by Jack Ford and the Zurich Flyers coached by Dick Bedard will both play their home games at the Zurich arena, In Rec hockey circles, the Exeter district league is ready for action again with Huron Park, Newby Tire, the Bank Boys and Old Timers competing. Thursday nights at the low arena. A new recreational loop has been added and will be playing at the Exeter arena during the late hours of each Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings. The teams are from Shipka, Brinsley,, Lieury and Asa Craig. ERREM1111M1011181511CTZIELIMI-,' qurNwloW' " 4h1.0,:k,g-4,141,',1,i) A 1,4 1811.111MMISINI WOAA INT, eC1 HOCKEY Sunday, Nov. 9 8:30 P.M.
