Mrs. Alvin Essery and Mrs. Leda Sorensen favoured with a piano duet; solo, Pearl Busweil. An address was read by Mrs. Ken Greb and Mrs. McFalls was presented with gifts from the Sunday School, adult Bible class, U.C.W. and friends. Mrs. McFalls has been associated with Centralia church -since church 'union gave wholeheartedly of her time and talents to the church, the Sunday school and the women's organizations. In her usual capable manner she expressed her appreciation for the gifts and program. BIRTHDAY PARTY Mrs. Borden Smyth made two young girls very happy Monday when she entertained at a birthday party for her daughter, Brenda Gaynor, and Debbie Gower. Both girls were celebrating their 9th birthday. Fifteen young guests attended. Amos Wright visited for a few RETURN FROM TRIP Mr. and Mrs. Fred Howe and Alex returned home Friday following a five week vacation to the West Coast where they visited at the home of their son, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Howe and family at Victoria Vancouver Island. On the way out they visited with friends and relatives and saw acres of grain, yet, to be harvested. On the return trip they visited cousins in Moose Jaw. Snow greeted them in Winnipeg and they were in a real blizzard at Sault Ste. Marie. FRED BOWDEN CENTRALIA Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Ec.c'ry were guests of honour at a turkey dinner in the Community Centre Saturday evening marking their 55th wedding anniversary. Celebrating with them were their family — two sons, two daughters, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. There were 50 in attendance. The decorations were in keeping with the anniversary occasion. SUNDAY SERVICE The Rev. D.S. Warren of Zion United Church, Crediton, was guest minister for the Thankoffering service in the United Church Sunday morning with a large congregation in attendance. Rev. Warren held his listeners in rapt attention as he delivered an inspiring message on the subject "Facing the Challenge." Mrs. Pat Soldan was the organist. The choir sang two anthems. The offertory music was a violin solo by Rev. Wilson with Mrs. Soldan playing the accompaniment. Ushers were Harvey Smith and Jack Hepburn. Mrs. Lorne Hicks opened the In June of 1965, Dr. Matthew Dymond, Minister of Health for the Province of Ontario, announced that a target had been set of 5,000 graduating nurses each year, and to this end provision for nurse education in Schools of Nursing would be increased. This new policy reflected the growing concern at the continuing shortage of graduate nursing staff, and was the Department's attempt to deal with the basic problem. From this emanated the original planning for, and the gradual growth of, the Perth-Huron Regional School of Nursing — a composite representation of the hospitals in the counties of Perth and Huron to be situated adjacent to the Stratford General Hospital. The School is administered by a Board of 20 trustees, representing the seven hospitals involved, with a yearly enrollment of 90 students. Miss A. M. Claypole and Mrs. J. G. Dunlop are members of the board of trustees for South Huron Hospital. Farewell presentation held Family home from West Centralia area pair wed 55 years health agencies throughout the two counties, and its purpose is to prepare nurses for beginning practice in nursing. The third year is an internship year during which the students will rotate through a selection of the participating hospitals. That year, the students receive pay from the hospital and are expected to find their own living accommodation. The school is specifically designed to facilitate maximum development of the professional abilities and skills of the learner and the nurse educator. Within the curriculum, the student spends two days per week at the Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology for the study of English Literature, biology, psychology and sociology. The school includes a modern air-conditioned library, laboratory classrooms, seminar rooms, single accommodation for 180 students, and an auditorium, gymnasium and heated swimming pool. The official opening of the Perth,Huron Regional School of Nursing will take place on November 5 at 2:30 p.m.
