WEls1-100013 GILL -GRAND BEND The Grand Bend Women's Institute was held Thursday evening In the town hall. The meeting was in the charge of Home Economics Convener, Mrs. Weliwood Roll call was answered with a favourite food remembered from childhood. The motto was "Happiness is like a potato salad — share it and you have a picnic." Mrs. Susan Wheatley, horrie economist for Huron -.County, was guest speaker. She was introduced and thanked by Mrs. Gill and presented with a small gift. Mrs. wrn, Love, president, presided for the business. Mrs. Raymond Kading gave a report of the WI Rally and Mrs. Les Adams gave a consumers' report. Delegates were appointed to attend the Area Convention in St. Thomas, November 13 and 14, Lunch was served by Mrs. Rosa Grigg, Mrs. Emery DesJardine, Mrs, Allan Miller and Mrs W, Gill. PERSONALS Thirty-three young people and their teachers from Grand Bend United Church Sunday School attended the Leighton Ford Crusade at London Thursday night. The Grand Bend UCW were guests at the Dashwood UCW last Tuesday night, Murray Vernier is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London. LUCAN CHURCH NEWS PENTECOSTAL Frank Cave, Chatham, was in charge of both services at the Lucan Pentecostal Church last Sunday and will continue to do so until a new minister is appointed. ANGLICAN The AYM held a very successful car-wash last Saturday at McLean's Supertest Service Station. Sunday the AYM attended Holy Communion, followed by breakfast in the church basement. At the Sunday morning service DwightHenderson led the opening prayer, Bill Smith read the First Lesson, Cal Haskett read the Second Lesson, and Mert Culbert the second part of the Service. Sunday next there will be Holy Communion Service at 8 a.m. for those newly confirmed and last year's Confirmation Class. Holy Trinity Couples' Club will serve breakfast. Ernie Ross led a sing-song and a game was played for a change of pace. Mrs. Ernie Ross' brother, Wilbur Watson of Dorchester, showed pictures he had taken while travelling to Hawaii and neighbouring islands. Lunch was served by Mr. and Mrs. Ross, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. PERSONALS A large crowd attended the reception Friday evening in Staffa Township Hall, honouring Mr. & Mrs. Ken Pullman on their recent marriage. Quite a number from this community attended the Provincial Plowing Match held last week near Paris. Mr. & Mrs. Eric Norris, East Lansing, Michigan visited over the weekend with Mrs. Sam Norris and Mr. & Mrs. Bob Norris and family. Four ladies from Staffa Women's Institute attended the Perth County Rally held in the Stratford Coliseum Thursday. Miss Darlene Templeman attended a birthday party Friday evening for Miss Penny Gloor, Mitchell. Mrs. Sam Norris and Mr. & Mrs. Bob Norris and family visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Jack Burleigh and family, Goderich. UCW Regular meeting of the UCW at Lncan United Church was held. last Tuesday with Mrs, J. W. Lockyer taking the chair. Reports were read of CGIT work and program for the year by Mrs. Worthington, and of Explorers by Mrs, WM. Froats, Mrs. Earl Young spoke of the memorial cards she had obtained from the United Church Literature Department and showed samples, Mrs. Bob Patterson, representing the Friendship Unit, had brought samples of the "Praying Hands" pens that the Unit have for sale. Mrs. Frances Saward gave a talk on Christian Education and Missions, Lunch was served by Mrs. H. B. Langford, Mrs. C. H. George and Mrs. Harvey Latta. CGIT Members of Lucan- Clandeboye CGIT held their Annual Thanksgiving Tea in the basement of Lucan United Church, which had been decorated seasonably with autumn leaves, pumpkins and mums. Mrs. Frank Hardy Jr. and Mrs. Frances Seward poured tea at a table covered with a lace cloth and decorated with a large bowl of bronze and yellow mums, a horn of plenty, and lighted candles. Mrs. Ed Melanson presided at a table displaying many kinds of plants for sale. Miss Heather Froats supervised the tea-room, while Mrs. Clare Stanley and Mrs. Jim Freeman supervised the kitchen. Miss Reta Chown made the tea. While the tea was successful, it was disappointing that no more people in the district, even parents of the girls, were able to attend. UNICEF Lucan Explorers will be collecting for UNICEF next Monday explaining that each penny contributed will purchase five glasses of milk for a needy child. A prize will be given to the member who is able to collect the money to buy the most glasses. After the canvass there will be a pot-luck supper at 6 p.m. in costume. Prizes will be given for the prettiest, and funniest and the best pair. CWL BAZAAR The CWL of St. Patrick's Church, Lucan, held a very successful bazaar and bake sale last Friday at Lucan Arena. The baking disappeared very fast, as usual. There were booths for the children such as a fish-pond and a penny touch-and-take table. The country store was sold out completely. There was also a good display of sewing and many games of chance. Winners of the big draw were Mrs. H. Menders, London, $25; C. J.
