First meeting
for rabbits
The first fall meeting of the
Lambton-Middlesex Rabbit
Breeders Association was held in
Arkona on October 4. A good
crowd was in attendance
supplemented by a couple of
carloads of members from the
South Huron club.
Guest speaker for the evening
was Mr. Harold Smith of
Wardsville Meat Industries. He
gave a short talk on the
problems encountered in
marketing and then answered
questions from the members.
Thanks was extended to Mr.
Smith by Paul Chamberlain.
Other important business on
the agenda was plans for a rabbit
show planned by the club for
November 15. A show
committee was named. Several
new members joined the club
also.
Auctioneer for the Dutch
auction was Angus Murray.
Winner of the prize was Kay
Murray.
The next meeting will be held
on November 1.

for stock yard
November 6 is the date for a
gala open house event at the
Ontario Stockyards in Toronto.
The new office building just
completed, will be officially
opened by the Hon, Wm. A.
Stewart, Ontario's Minister of
Agriculture assisted by
agricultural officials from
Ottawa.
The Open House program will
begin at p.m. on November 6,
with a novel event, Each
commission firm on the yard
will provide 4 truckloads of
butcher cattle, one each of
angus, herefords, charolais and
either holstein steers or
crossbreds.
Prior to the selling of these
cattle, a panel of buyers from
the packing plants will judge
them. A grand champion lot and
a reserve grand champion lot will
be chosen from the winners in
each class.
The cattle will then be sold,
and prizes awarded to winners.
Official opening ceremonies
for the new building will take
place at 3;30 p.m. with Fred
Campbell, Manager of the Yards
as chairman, Refreshments will
be served from 4;30 p.m. to
5:30 p.m, followed by lunch for
visitors from 5:30 to 6:30.
Everyone interested in cattle
marketing is invited to this
event, sponsored by The Ontario
Stockyards Board, The Toronto
Livestock Exchange, The
Toronto Livestock Agencies
Association, The Royal Bank of
Canada and Hartford Insurance
Group, Livestock Department.
