Mrs. Jack McDermott and
Lloyd Hey were two of 184
travellers who took the
Zurich-to-Zurich flight,
Upon arrival at Zurich,
Switzerland, the party was
greeted by the mayor to whom
they presented a gift from
Zurich, Ontario. They were then
entertained at a three-hour
banquet.
Mrs. McDermott took a
four-day bus tour of
Switzerland, Germany, Austria
and Leichenstein. She found the
food and accommodation
excellent and the people
exceedingly friendly. The return
flight was made during daylight
hours. From the plane window
she could distinguish the English
Channel, Ireland and, later,
Newfoundland.
Mr. Hey, with three others,
hired a guide and in a rented
Mercedes made their tour of
Switzerland, Germany, Austria
and France. He was particularly
interested in a visit to Hitler's
hideout at Berchtesgarten.
There were herds of cows,
each with a tinkling brass bell
tied around its neck; there were
featherticks to sleep under' at
night. Restaurants served
delicious meals of sauerkraut
and pig hock. At Munich a beer
festival was in progress. There
were no weeds, no flies, no
screens.
Customs did not present a
problem. All one had to do
when entering a different
country was show one's
passport. Language was no
problem either. If in a store no
one spoke English, the
proprietor quickly sent out for
someone who could.
