Wilmer Adkins was driving a Guenther-Tuckey truck loaded with meat west on Highway 7 in Stratford when a car moved in front of him at the intersection of Romeo street. When the car appeared in front of him, Adkins applied the brakes and veered to the left in trying to avoid a crash and the vehicle jack-knifed and crashed into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dench at 565 Ontario street. A spokesman for the Stratford police department told the T-A traffic lights at the intersection in question switch to flashing at about 1.30 each morning. The lights were flashing amber for Adkins when he approached the corner and the police official said the light on Romeo Street was blinking red MRS. THOMAS R. Pfaff of the Exeter Post Office announced Tuesday afternoon the service that will be available at the local post office on Monday, Thanksgiving Day. While the wicket service will be closed all day, the lock box lobby will be open 24 hours. Service to the rural routes will be cancelled for Monday. Mail despatches will leave at 5 p.m. when Schmidt came to the intersection. Stratford police listed damage to the Guenther-Tuckey truck at $7.000 but transuort company President B. W. Tuckey said damage would be in the neighbourhood of only $1,000. Tuckey said damage .was restricted to the two fenders, grill and radiator. Flying bricks apparently hit the windshield but did not break it. The brick home was extensively damaged when the truck went through the basement wall. Jars of freshly made pickles and jam were scattered throughout the basement. Schmidt, driver of the car was Dear Sir, I am trying ,to trace my grandmother's family. Her name was Margaret Cook, she married a Henry Curry of Friar Terrace, Hartlepool, Co. Durham, England. I think she was born either at Trimdon or Wingate Co. Durham, England. She had a few nieces and nephews. One was a Mrs. Glass of Wingate who came out to Canada in 1932 on a visit to either a brother or sister, who had a farm in or near Exeter. I met Mrs. Glass many years ago at my grandmother's funeral. There was another niece who lived with my grandmother for a while, a Jane Ann Cook. She married a Simpson Sayers of Trimdon. They went to live in South Africa, had one son who became a minister and once preached in Johannasburg Cathedral. He would be around 75 if still living. My grandfather was a bonesetter. If there is anyone who knows any living relative please write to me. Mrs. Ruby Walden, 460 Cheapside St. London 24, Ont. If there is anyone in England, my brother expects to go there next year for a visit and would like to call and see them. Le gion meetin g on usual night The general meeting of the Lucan Legion was held in the hall on October 1st. After a discussion on the most suitable day for general meetings, it was decided to continue with the present schedule, the first Wednesday of each month. To conform to new Provincial by-laws, each Legion branch must change their election meetings to June from the present practice of holding them in December. Branch 540' has decided to have one regular election in December with the new executive holding office for 18 months, until June 30, 1971. Comrades Bill Smith and Harold Butler, both past presidents of the branch, were appointed as a nominating committee to work on a slate of officers for presentation to the November meeting. There will also be open nominations from the floor at that meeting. Comrade E. DeGraw-reported that plans for the Hunter's Ball are progressing well. Tim MacFarlane and the Cardinals have been engaged for this occasion, and this band always draws capacity crowds. That's this Saturday, Oct. 11, so come early to ensure a seat. ANGLICAN The annual Harvest Thanksgiving Service was held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Lucan, last Sunday. The Church was decorated by the Young People. Rev. D. G. S. Scorer of the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Strathroy, preached on the theme that we who have much should consider the needs of the people of the world who are starving. He told the congregation that he had two sons teaching in Africa. In the course of his sermon Mr. Scorer quoted Gordon Sinclair as saying, "God is a bully because he gives us in the Western Hemisphere so much and allows the Eastern Hemisphere to starve." After saying that we should send machinery and technicians to these countries, he concluded by saying, "There's not one of us today who can go out of here and not be a hypocrite if we don't help Biafra." A.C.W. The regular meeting of the Anglican Church Women was held at the home of Mrs. Jack Murdy, October 1 with seven members present. Mrs. Murdy opened with prayer and read a sermon prepared by Rev.
