Ruth-Ann Minderlein of Centralia was Sunday guest of Mr, & Mrs. Douglas Lewis and family, A shower was held Friday evening in St. Mary's Anglican Church for Miss Marion Rowe, bride-elect prior to her marriage October 12 to Jim Consitt. Olden times in this community are recalled when Harry Martin drives his hackney horse and buggy, U.C.W. The October meeting of the U.C.W. was held at the home of Mrs. Jack. Trevithick, Mrs. Norman Lewis opened the meeting with prayer, Scripture was read by Mrs. Earl Lewis. A poem was read by Mrs. Jack Trevithick, Mrs. Earl Morley gave an interesting account of the first ten years from time the W.M.S. was organized in 1926 in the Brinsley United Church. Mrs. Pickering closed with prayer. Mrs. Wm. Fenton, president, presided over the business. Roll call was answered by 14 members. It was decided to pay $10 to Arthritis Society. ' Lunch was served by Group 1 ladies, building; Harold Gunn, to replace sign at Traquair Hardware; Donald Lee, to build a partition for a basement rec room at 156 Andrew North; William Balsdon, to construct an enclosed porch at 431 Albert; Donald Rooth, to erect a carport at 357 Carling; Herman Dettmer, to shingle roof and remove front porch at 303 Carling; Art Gaiser, to renovate apartment at 465 Dam project — Continued from front page The work is now underway and will cost about $2,000. Later in the meeting a discussion was held in regard to attending the annual Good Roads convention. Councillor Helen Jermyn indicated she may attend. She told council she didn't want to go last year because she didn't know much about the work, being a new member of council. Mrs. Jermyn suggested she was better informed this year, but added that engineers now have her thoroughly confused. By MRS. Frank Parkinson and Glenn attended a birthday party in honor of Miss Adelaide Parkinson's 93rd birthday in St. Marys, Friday afternoon. Mr. & Mrs, Grafton Squire, Sue Ann and Paul were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. & Mrs. Mac Baron, St. Marys. Mrs. Wm. Morley attended Womens Institute District Rally held at Dungannon United Church, Monday. Grafton &ike attended the Shrinerss rail Ceremonial at Chatham Saturday. Page 2 Times-Advocate, October Y, 1969 Brin.sley girl starts course in Stratford The damage caused by hail which accompanied the . devastating rain of July 24 is evident in the number of permits being issued to Exeter residents to shingle roofs. Over a dozen permits for this work were approved by council Monday. Several have previously been passed. One roofing contractor estimated that the hail took five years off the average life of a roof. House shingling permits approved were as follows: Russ Broderick, 315 Andrew; Ward Hem, Huron; P. Plantinga, Main; Viola Hennessey, William; Dalton Skinner, Edward; John Wright, Waterloo; William Snell, James; Gregus Construction, three permits.
