By MISS ELLA MORLOCK CREDITON A ceremony was conducted Sunday afternoon on the lawn of Zion United Church to mark the opening of the cornerstone of the former Crediton United Church. Rev, D, Warren initiated proceedings by reading a passage of scripture and offering prayer. The stones were opened by Wilfred Mack and Lorne Preszcator. There were three stones, one for the trustees, one for the Ladies. Aid and the third for the Sunday School. GB family attend wedding By MRS. WELLVVOOD GILL GRAND BEND Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Kennedy and family attended the Judge — Brewer wedding September 6, in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Oxford St., London. Miss Shirley Brewer was a former Grand Bend girl. Miss Mary Lynn Kennedy was her maid of honour. Mrs. Jean (Kennedy) Weigand was the soloist accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Clarke Kennedy at the organ. UCW The evening unit of Grand Bend UCW held their first meeting of the season last Tuesday. Mrs. Jack Eagleson presided for the opening worship. Mrs. Wm. Blewett gave an outline of the day at Alma College in which she and Mrs. Jack Eagleson and Mrs. Wm. Love attended. Mrs. Murray Venner and Mrs. Irvin Ford served lunch. PERSONALS Mrs. Evelyn Flear of Hamilton is visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Roy Flear and family. Claude Glatsford, In each were newspapers from the time of the cornerstone laying in May, 1922, and a glass jar containing coins, a hymn book, a Bible, bulletins, and records. In addition, the Trustees' jar held the keys of the original church erected in 1869. On the front page of one of the newspapers was an article that could have been written in September 1969. It was headed "Effort in Belfast to Maintain Order", 4-H CLUB The first meeting of the 4-II Club "Needlecraft" was held in the Community Centre Saturday, September 6, with 25 girls present. They decided to call themselves Nifty Needles. Officers were elected for the organization: Club 1, President Mary Hodgins; vice-president Ann Morrissey; secretary Sandra Shapton; treasurer Katherine Ratz; telephone secretary Dianne Shapton; leaders, Mrs. Cliff Kenney and Angela Mary Morrissey. This Club meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday evenings in the Community Centre. Club 2, President Mary Conlin; vice-president Theresa Dietrich; secretary Mary Ann Gielen; treasurer Elizabeth Dietrich; telephone secretary Joanne Muller; leaders, Mrs. Harvey Hodgins and Mrs. Russell Finkbeiner. PERSONALS Roger Finkbeiner is a patient at St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Karen and Gwen Finkbeiner have returned home after a four month tour of Europe and the British Isles. Gwen has reported for classes at St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Mary Feist of the Bluewater Rest Home, Zurich, visited last week with Mr. & Mrs. Carl Radford and called on friends in the village. Mrs. Joe Bullock is spending some time with Mr. & Mrs. Edward Darby of Willowdale. Mr. & Mrs. Bruce McLennan and son Larry of Beamsville are guests of Mr. & Mrs. Ray Morlock, Mrs. Alvin Bannerman, Wingham, spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Eric Finkbeiner. The end of the season for Crediton's Ball Club was celebrated Friday evening. After the game with Lucan, the Crediton team and their families enjoyed lunch in the Community Hall. Thursday evening September 4, 52 people went to Hamilton by chartered bus and private car to witness the induction service for Rev. Howard Zurbrigg. The ceremony, under the direction of the Rev. Kenneth McMillan, General Secretary of the Canadian Bible Society, was held in historic St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. Following the service there was a time of fellowship in the church hall. Group 1 leader, Mrs. George Lee read the scripture. Mrs. Jack Hodgson gave a poem and Mrs. Lee read a chapter in the Study Book on poverty. A skit was given by four ladies, Mrs. G. Lee, Mrs. Fraser Dixon, Mrs. Wm. Fenton and Mrs. J. Hodgson. Mrs. Fenton took over for the business, when the roll call was answered by 12 members. PERSONALS Brinsley United Church will observe its anniversary service Sunday morning, September 14 at 11 a.m. Rev. Ken Hick B.A. of Glencoe United Church and former minister of Ailsa Craig Pastoral Charge will be the guest speaker. A shower for Miss Betty Morley, bride-elect was held Friday evening at Brinsley Community Centre. A program was enjoyed previous to the presentation after which Miss Morley was the recipient of many beautiful gifts. A social half hour was held after the presentation. to a daisy headpiece. Attending the groom were Thomas Dodge of Sudbury and. Bradley and Dennis McBride, Kippen, as ringbearers. Ushers were Wayne McBride and Conrad Cagron, Sault Ste. Marie. Following the wedding a reception was held at Oakwood Inn, Grand Bend. For a honeymoon to Niagara Falls, the bride changed to a sleeveless white spun wool dress with eggplant flare skirt and bolero jacket with corsage of white gardenia and stephanotis. The couple will reside at Journey's End, Richards Landing, St, Joseph Island, Ontario. The groom is employed by Algonquin Radio and Television and the bride by Sault Board of Education and Algoma College. .SHOWER Mrs. Edgar McBride entertained relatives and friends at a miscellaneous shower Sunday afternoon, August 31 for Marjorie Hyde, bride-elect of September 6. THOMSON PICNIC The descendants of Robert Thomson, Kippen, held a picnic Sunday at the home of his daugher and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Priestop, Mitchell, who served a turkey dinner for noon and supper at night. Present were Mr. and Mrs. (Hazel) Dave Moyer and their daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Don Campbell and baby; Mr. and Mrs. Schnieder and family of Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stokes, Larry and Mary Anne of London; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Thomson, Kippen; Mr. and Mrs. R. H.
