on the Dashwood diamond at
eight o'clock. A Kinsmen win
would put them into the league
finals, but a win for the Grand
Benders would make the Grand
Bend visit to Exeter Tuesday
night to play the Legion very
important.
In play during the past week,
Grand Bend downed the Legion
12-8 in Dashwood Thursday and
the Kinsmen trounced the
Legion 22-3 Tuesday night.
A BROTHER COMBINATION
Jiin and Bob Russell provided
most of the power for the 22.3
Kinsmen win over the Legion,
Tuesday night.
The Russell brothers
combined to slash out eight of
the 20 hits picked up by the
winning club.
The Legion scored once in
the first inning and twice in the
third and that was the extent of
their run making against Kin
hurler Don Bell, Bell also helped
his own cause with a home run.
Jim Russell had a home run,
double, two singles and a walk in
five trips to the plate while Bob
contributed four singles in the
same amount of turns at the
plate.
Jim Hewitt was close behind
in the hitting parade, collecting
two singles and a triple while
Bell also had a pair of
two-baggers to go with his home
run.
COME FROM BEHIND
The Grand Bend win over the
Legion in Dashwood Thursday
was accomplished in a
come-from-behind fashion.
After three innings of play
the Legion were leading 8-0 but,
the Bend club bounced back
with a steady hitting attack to
pull out a 12-8 win. Lorne
Vincent was the winning pitcher
for Grand Bend while Don
Mousseau and Gord Slaght toiled
for the Legion.

The weather at the moment may not be very
conducive to even thinking of hockey but most of the
district ice teams are making plans for the coming
season.
A quick meeting of the Exeter Minor Hockey
Association was scheduled for Wednesday night in order
to have representation at an OHA Junior "C" meeting in
New Hamburg tonight, Thursday.
A general organization meeting of the JiMHA will
be held in the next week or two to make plans for the
full minor program this winter.
The Exeter Hawks entry in OHA Junior ranks has
already been filed. It is quite probable the Hawks will
again participate in the "C" class although a good
district "D" group seems to be shaping up,
The Hawks lose five players from last year's club
due to age. Those that will not be back are Scott
Burton, Bill Bourne, Pete Lawson, Jim Glavin and Bob
Gouring,
Three players are still eligible to play for the
Hawks will be attending training camps of Junior "A"
clubs within the next week or two.
Barry Baynham and Tom Hodgins are leaving
to-day, Thursday for the camp of the Toronto
Marlboros, The Guelph Imperials were in touch with
Jim Hayter last week, but since that time the team along
with four others that played in the CHA grouping last
year were tossed out by the OHA,
The Dashwood youngster told us Monday he
didn't know any more about the Guelph situation but
he also had calls from Goderich and Stratford for Junior
"B" play.
The "D" grouping just mentioned will include
teams from Lambeth, Mitchell, Belmont, Zurich and
Lucan.
The Lucan entry is a new one and is headed by a
very enthusiastic executive. While a president has not
been elected as yet, members of the executive are Bill
Neil, Keith Kraul, Bernard Benn, Bob Taylor, Robert
Anderson, Gord Baker and Steve Davis.
While the Lucan junior entry is new the name
they are playing under is a familiar one to hockey fans
in the district. The club will be known as the Lucan
Irish Six.
One of the most enthusiastic hockey supporters
in Lucan in the past 50 years, Harvey Langford has been
named honorary president of the new organization.
Davis will be doubling as publicity chief and Jim
Freeman, a former goal tender with Lucan intermediate
clubs will be handling the managerial duties.
Davis told us Monday afternoon that he expected
a coach would be named within a few days.
In intermediate ranks the Lucan-Ilderton Jets will
be making a determined bid for the Ontario Hockey
Association championship that eluded them last year in
their first try.
The Jets held their third practice of the season
Tuesday night at the Huron Park arena and have had all
of last year's club out along with a few newcomers.
Attempts are being made to secure the services of a
defenceman of senior "A" calibre.
A big help to the Jet cause will be the return to
action of Max O'Neill. After a couple years of inactivity
on the ice lanes, Max who was one of the top centres in
the district should strengthen the club up the middle.
Ian Dallas, manager of Lucan's Bank of Montreal
is president of the Jet organization with Howard Keayes
of Ilderton as vice-president. Don Urbshott will be Cie
manager of the club in addition to trying for a defence
position.
Steve Storey who handled the coaching duties last
year isn't sure of the coaching situation for the 1969-70
season. Storey says he would like to get a good man to
handle the team from the bench or a couple of good
defencemen and then he "might retire prematurely" and
stick to coaching.
Also in intermediate hockey, the Crediton Tigers,
last year's WOAA grand champions are again raring to
go and had their first workout at Centralia, Sunday
night,
The Crediton club should be as strong as ever
with the acquisition of a couple of over-age Exeter
Hawks. The Tigers will be playing their home games at
the Exeter arena this year.
Lots Of Candidates
Football practices are now well underway at
South Huron District High School and both clubs have
plenty of candidates for all positions.
Ron Bogart who has been handling the coaching
chores by himself for the senior Panthers, reigning
Huron-Perth Conference champions is getting some
welcome help this year.
Glenn Mickle who has handled both senior and
junior clubs at the local school in the past came out
Monday night to help Bogart with the senior linemen.
More than 40 seniors are still working out this week.
In junior ranks, the population is just as high.
Coaches Doug Ellison and Jack Riddell had more than
60 youngsters out to the initial workouts.
Bogart told us early this week that he expected
the same ten schools as last year would be participating
in senior ranks and six would be entered in junior
competition.
Listowel, St. Marys, Goderich, Huron Central and
Stratford Central would be competing in junior ranks
along with South Huron. In senior play, the six
mentioned above will be joined by Mitchell, Seaforth,
Wingham and Stratford Northwestern.
Tigers one down in final,.
play at hone, Saturday.
The Dashwood Tigers
notorious for losing playoff
games on away from home fields
lived up to their reputation in
the first game of the Ontario
Baseball. Association
Intermediate "D" send-finals,
Saturday.
The Tigers travelled to Ivey
and dropped a 9-5 decision to
the Ivey Maple Leafs in the
opener of a best-of-three series.
The second game will be
played on the Dashwood
diamond Saturday night at eight
o'clock. If a third tilt is
necessary, it will be played
Sunday afternoon at two
o'clock, also on the Dashwood
field.
The winner of this series will
meet Mattice for the all-Ontario
championship on Thanksgiving
weekend. The Mattice club will
make the 800-mile trip south for
the final for the second
consecutive year.
HOMERS HURT
The home run ball was
damaging to the Dashwood
cause in Ivey Saturday
afternoon.
The home team came up with
four curcuit blows, two of which
came back-to-back during a four
run Ivey uprising in the seventh
that provided the margin of
victory.
The Ivey team moved ahead
with single runs in the first and
second innings and added two
more in the third. Dashwood
scored their first marker in the
third, broke out with a three run
outburst in the fourth and added
a lone marker in the sixth to
take a 5-4 edge on the
scoreboard.
Singles by Bud Desjardine
and Whitey Denomme and a
double from the bat of Jim
Hayter produced the first
Dashwood tally in the third.
Hayter was cut down at third
trying to stretch his hit into a
triple.
In the fourth, a pair of walks,
an error, a single by Pete Ravelle
and doubled delivered by Gord
Vincent and John Hayter were
