The series of dialogue meetings was announced by Prime Minister Roberts on June 25 at the annual conference of the Association of Ontario Mayors and Reeves. The Prime Minister stressed the meetings were important to both the Province and the municipalities so that both levels of government could properly grasp each other's point of view and together develop a meaningful program for improving municipal functions, Mr. Roberts said major municipal reforms are essential in order to equip local governments to handle the greatly increased challenges of modern society. "The ultimate objective of these reforms is to return more responsibilities and duties to stronger local governments," he added.
