Rumors about the base closing had been floating around for several months and the very fact an important announcement was to be made indicated that indeed the chop was Coming. The London newsmen were right to a point, but what they didn't know was the fact the Supply and Maintenance Depot at London was also going to be closed out. SO; there they Were in Clinton and they indicated their Offites at London were unaware that an announcement about the city base would be made at the same time as the news of the Clinton closing was Made public, family of London and Mr. & Mrs. David Smith of Forest. David Beer attended the Hockey School at Centralia for one week. Sgt.-Major Ronald MacKinnon and family, Gary and Tami, of Oromocto, New Brunswick, are spending a week vacationing with the former's mother, Mrs. Janet MacKinnon. Mr. & Mrs. B. Van Gent of Leamington, visited with A. VanDyke and Mr. & Mrs. Sim Roobol. The Misses Pamela and Sheila Lindsay of Bridgeport are holidaying this week with their grandmother, Mrs. John Henderson and family. Detroit man buried here Benjamin D. Kaiser of Detroit, formerly of Brucefield, passed away in Detroit Friday, August 15 in his 70th year. He was the son of the late John C. and Elizabeth Kaiser. Surviving are his wife, the former Eva Zapfe, two brothers, Earl, chicago, and Jack, Nepal, India. One brother, Clarence, pm-deceased him. The late Mr. Kaiser rested at the Harris Funeral Chapel, Detroit, until Monday evening, then to Bonthron Funeral Chapel, Hensall, where public service was held Wednesday conducted by Rev, Harold F. Currie. Burial was in Bairds cemetery. 4
