Wright. family meets
in Seaforth grounds
Alex McDougall was taken by
ambulance Saturday to South
Huron Hospital, Exeter.
Sunday Mr. & Mrs. Delbert
Gieger entertained members of
the Smillie-Elder clan who had
come from a distance to attend
the reunion at Seaforth the
previous day.
Mrs. Erling Lund (nee Audrey
Elder) of Pittsburgh, P.A.,
U.S.A., visited with relatives in
the Hensall area and attended
the Smillie-Elder reunion.
Mr. & Mrs. Lorne C. Elder,
now of Kingsville, and Mr. &
Mrs. Fred Howe of Hyde Park
and Arizona, were guests of Mrs.
Grace Peck while here for the
Smillie-Elder reunion.

• Sylvia held a picnic supper at
their home Tuesday in honor of
Mrs. Bell's mother, Mrs. Ethel
McBride, Zurich, who celebrated
her 86th birthday. Mr. & Mrs.
Gordon Bloch of Zurich also
attended.

McArthur folk
elect officers
Members of the McArthur
Clan from Agincourt, Kitchener,
Ingersoll, Thamesford, London,
St. Thomas, Blenheim, Exeter,
Zurich and Hensall met at
Riverview Park, Exeter, Sunday
for their annual reunion.
After all enjoyed a delicious
meal president Bill Elliott gave
the history of the McArthur
Clan. A minute of silence was
• observed in memory of Mrs.
Stewart McQueen and Mrs. Roy
Lamont, two sisters who passed
away during the year.
Secretary:treasurer Shirley
Elliott read the minutes of the
1968 reunion, and gave the
financial report.
• Officers elected for 1970
were president, Bill Knights;
se c ret a ry- treasurer, Donna
Knights, sports, Joan Elliott.
A program of sports was
directed by Mrs. George Greer,
The 1970 reunion will be
held at Riverview Park, Exeter,
• the second Sunday in July.

Two-day horse show fun
for competitors, spectators
The top awards at the
two-day horse show held in
Hensall Friday and Saturday in
conjunction with the third
annual Frontier Days were won
by Hensall riders.
Danny Turvey won the most
points in the junior division and
received the Freeze King trophy
from Ron Wareing, Winner of
the senior high point title and
the Custom Trailers of Exeter
trophy was Barry Mousseau.
On his way to the
championship, Danny 'Purvey
won the junior equitation class
with ponies and the second pony
race.
Barry Mousseau in capturing
the senior point crown won the
flag and key hole races.
Craig Black of Exeter won
the pleasure classes in both
Friday and Saturday's shows.
The senior rescue race was
won by Jim and Jack Rundle
with Mr. Snippy. Dale Hunt of
Simcoe finished first in the
barrel race and in the pole
bending event.
Nelson Bilyea and Bob
Whitehead teamed up to win the
tire race. Nancy Swartz on
"Merry Vandy" won junior
equitation with horses' while
Patti Cornish of London was
victorious in the junior flag race
and the junior rescue.
In first spot in the first pony
race was Jane Allen and Linda
Cording won the Little Britches
Calf Riding event.
Donors of the beautiful
trophies presented in addition to
the top two awards were Alvin
Taylor, Hensel). Motors, Al's
Super Save, W.G. Thompson and
Sons, Cook Bros., Murray Baker,

rooms. The reward for 30-40
years of honest toil. It's enough
to make one join the hippies,
It's a great country, But next
time you start whining because
you can't quite afford a second
car, think of the farmer whose
wheat can't be sold, the plumber
who cleans your stinking drains,
the Indian who fought in the
war and can't get a job, the
doughty woman battling for her
family, or the little old lady
sitting alone in a furnished
room, living on bread and tea
until her cheque comes.
The annual Wright Reunion
was held Sunday at Seaforth
Lions Paric with 50 attending.

J.T. Mitchell
dies at Clinton
John Thomas Mitchell, who
was 1.02 Feb. 7, died Monday
afternoon at Huronview.
Mr. Mitchell, formerly of
Hensall, came to Huronview
when he was 100, He was born
on his father's Hay Township
farm, Later the family moved to
adjoining Tuckersmith
Township.
Mr. Mitchell spent most of his
life on his farm near Hensall. He
had a good memory and in an
interview on his 100th birthday,
he recalled the growth of the
area around the turn of the
century,
In 1891, Mr. Mitchell married
the former Elizabeth Rice of
Cromarty. They moved to
Hensel] in 1928. His wife died in
1956 at the age of 85.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by
three daughters, Mrs. Jarvis
(Olive) Horton and Mrs. Melville
(Edna) Traquair, both of
Hensall, and Mrs. Carl
(Gertrude) Stoneman, Cromarty,

the former's mother, Mrs. Alice
Joynt.

were weekend visitors with Mr.

holdspicnic
The annual picnic of the
Smillie—Elder clan was held in
Lions Park, Seaforth, July 12.
With fine weather prevailing,
members came from far and
wide.
An afternoon of sports and
swimming was directed by Carol
and Ken Elder of Toronto. News
from many of the absent ones
was brought by Stewart Smillie
of St. Catharines. A new
historical album was introduced
by Mrs. Grace Peck, and found
to be very interesting.
Officers elected for the
ensuing year are Hon President
Dr. Jennie Smillie Robertson,
Toronto; President Mrs. Joan
Tremayn, Toronto;
vice-president Delbert Geiger;
secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Norma
