(By JOHN MUSSER) To some people the job of a page boy may seem quite dull but it is really an interesting experience. All of the 22 pages, selected from all over Ontario, must be at the Parliament Buildings in Queen's Park at 9 o'clock each morning. At 9:30 it is time to head down to the chamber where the Grade 7 and 8 students keep the members' books up to date. Members principal books are: Bill book, a law of Ontario before it is passed; Hansard, the words of all the members in booklet form. After doing the 117 members books (69—P.C., 28—L., 20 NDP) all go outside to play football and many other games. At 12:45, the pages file down to the chamber for session of Parliament — that is from 2-6 o'clock Monday to Thursday, 10:30 a.m. — 1:00 p.m. Fridays and night sessions, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The principal job there is to deliver messages from one member to another and to get water for them. Each page had two days of school which equaled 5 hours a week (3 — 5:30). Things have been exciting lately, for example when the member from Grey-Bruce was ordered out of the Legislature. That was the first time in 32 years! Also there were two labour demonstrations. The Speaker, Hon. F.M.Cass, has to be one of the nicest men I have ever met. This gentleman has the difficult job at times of keeping the members under control. It is really a great experience to be a page in the Ontario Legislature because you meet so many wonderful people. Tell it all!. . . . Tell it well!. .. That's the easy way to sell... T-A Want Ads. Sunday, July 20, 1:00 p.m, The Southwestern Ontario Retriever Training Club Field Trials will be held at the Morrison Dam Conservation Area, 11/4 miles east of Exeter. This event will be staged in the upstream portion of the reservoir. Spectators interested in the training of retrievers are invited to attend, and will be assured of an excellent display. Sunday, July 20. The First Annual Great Ausable Canoe race will begin at 1:00 p.m. sharp at Lee Jennison's gravel pit, entrance west of Highway 21 immediately south of "Whispering Pines" Motel, The voyageurs will pass along the old Ausable River through the Pinery Provincial Park to the Ausable River Cut. The race will then continue south-east up the "Cut" to a checkpoint at the end of the "Cut" at the truss bridge over the old river road. The racers will then retrace their route down the "Cut" to the `Medford Conservation Area at the Highway 21 bridge, where the race will end. The length of this course is ,approximately 14 miles. This event will be staged along the same lines as the famous John Dickens' "Bunny Bundle" Canoe race. Each participating team must have a sponsor whose name will be prominently displayed on the canoe. Entry fee is $5.00 per Canoe, with trophies and prizes for the winning racers and sponsors. All entrants will receive a crest, In addition to promoting Conservation Week and the Ausable River Conservation Authority, this event is being staged as a "Canoe-athon" to raise funds for the North Middlesex Arena fund. Therefore, all those able-bodied citizens of the area who do not wish to pay the entry fee and become eligible for prizes are urged to sign up as many pledges as possible and enter the race strictly to raise funds for this worthy cause. It is rumoured that Mayor Adrian Ansems of Parkhill (of "walk-athon" fame) already has several thousand dollars pledged if he can complete this course. Don't forget! Anyone can take part — get yourself a partner and as many pledges as possible. Further details and entry forms are available from Mayor Adrian Ansems of Parkhill at 294-6497 or 294-6201 or from the Ausable River Conservation Authority, Exeter, telephone 235-2610. By MRS.
