Notice To Property Owners
To Destroy Weeds
Notice is hereby given to all persons in possession of land in
accordance with the weed control act 1960, Section 3, 13
& 19 that unless noxious weeds growing on their land
within the village of Lucan are destroyed by July 17, 1969
and throughout the season, the municipality may enter
upon the said land and have the weeds destroyed charging
the cost against the land in taxes set out in the act,
The co-operation of all citizens is earnestly solicited.

Visitors at Lucan
from Michigan
Last Sunday Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Battenhouse of 1739
Stanley Blvd., Birmingham,
Mich., on returning home from
seeing Shakespearean plays at
.Stratford, stopped in Lucan
where Mrs. Battenhouse had
spent many vacations with her
aunts, the Misses Willis of
Princess Street.
Mrs. Battenhouse, a niece of
Mrs. Hubert Jones of Exeter is
the daughter of Dr. W. Neil of
Albion, Mich, and the late Mrs.
Neil (nee Carrie Willis) both
formerly of Lucan.
Mrs. Battenhouse was
particularly interested in the
United Church where her
mother was organist for many
years. By chance she met a
cousin, Mrs. John Park, coming
out of the Church, who took her
in, arid got the key of the organ.
Mrs. Battenhouse, an organist
herself, got a big thrill, trying
out the organ her mother used
to play.
Mrs. Park took the couple
home with her for lunch.
Former local girl
in north hospital
Sheltie Suter, seven year old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Suter of White River, Ontario,
formerly of Lucan was involved
in a car accident, which killed
her little friend, and sent her to
hospital with a broken hip,
pelvis and arm. Lucan friends
have received word that she is
making satisfactory progress.
Tops banner
to convention
The regular meeting of the
TOPS Streamliners was held last
Wednesday at the home of Mrs.
Gary McKenzie with 10
members present.
There was one weigh-in, and
the weights recorded were very
satisfactory,
Mrs. Harry Bond was
crowned Queen for the week.
Summer meetings will be held
at 8:45 p.m. and social nights
will start June 25. There will be
no mystery prizes at the summer
meetings,
Work was continued on the
banner which will be finished
Wednesday in time to be taken
to the Convention, Friday.
Members were glad to
welcome back Mrs. Earl Morgan
after an absence of a few
months.
DIET TUNA FISH SALAD
3 servings
147 calories each serving
1 small can tuna, 1 chopped
onion, 1 1: cup kidney beans,
green pepper, chopped, 1 tbsp.
horseradish sauce, 2 stalks celery
(chopped), 2 tbsp. chili sauce, 1
dill pickle chopped, a small
amount low-calorie dressing.
Place tuna fish in strainer and
pour boiling water over to
remove oil. Drain and place in
refrigerator to chill. Mix onion,
pepper, celery and pickle, then
add horseradish, beans and chili
sauce. Mix and add tuna fish.
Add small amount of low-calorie
dressing and mix.
Three showers
for bride-elect
Prior to her marriage Miss
Joyce Rummell was honored at
three showers.
Mrs. Muriel Kennedy and
Miss Sue Kennedy held a
miscellaneous shower at their
home on Langford Crescent,
Lucan; Mrs. Jim Rummell,
sister-in-law of the bride held a
miscellaneous shower at her
home in London; and Mrs. Chris
Van Bussel, sister of the groom,
held a cup and saucer shower at
her home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jac Van Geel
entertained the wedding party at
their home following the
wedding rehearsal Friday
evening.

attends wedding
Mrs. Ron Crozier held a
dessert tea at her home for Miss
Beth Reid, R.N. of London.
Pouring tea was Mrs. Alec J.
Simpson, Ailsa Craig, and guests
included Mrs. Guthrie Reid,
Parkhill, Mrs. Hilliard Stewart,
Mrs. Janet Cree, Mrs. Gordon C.
Stewart, Miss Agnes Terrance,
Mrs. Peter Twynstra, Miss Mary
and Miss Janet Crawford, Mrs.
J.W. Smith and Mrs. P.O. King.
Mr. & Mrs. Ron Crozier, Jane
and Susan were recently at the
Coulters-Maynard wedding,
Innerkip. Mrs. David Maynard
was one of the three bridesmaids
and Mr. David Maynard was
master of ceremonies at the
wedding reception.
Miss Norma Jean Stewart,
daughter of Hon. William A.
Stewart, Ontario Minister of
Agriculture, and Mrs. Stewart,
RR 2 Denfield, has been
honoured recently at a number
of prenuptial events. prior to her
marriage to Richard Raymond
Brock, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Raymond R. Brock of Kerwood,
at Wesley United Church,
Highbury.
Mrs. Stewart held a trousseau
tea at her home, Hyland Farms,
in honour of her daughter.
Greeting guests were the
bride-elect, her mother, and the
Janice Abbott entertained 20
friends at her home, Saturday
last on the occasion of her 16th
birthday.
The family of Mr. and Mrs. J.
Alex. Young celebrated Father's
Day at the home of their eldest
son Don in Blyth. Members of
the family from Sudbury,
Byron, Ilderton, Lucan and
Blyth attended.
Mr. & Mrs. Howard Cranston
who have both been on the sick
list are making satisfactory
progress.
Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Smith and
family of Wallaceburg spent last
weekend with Mrs. George
Hodgins and family.
The Ladies Guild of Holy
Trinity Church is busy making
plans for their annual strawberry
supper to be held in the church
basement, Wednesday, June 25.
Muriel Abbott, 15 year old
daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Art
Abbott was one of those who
passed from Grade 10 to 11
without having to write exams.

Mrs. Charlie Haggar who
underwent a very serious
operation in Victoria Hospital is
making a satisfactory recovery.
Work has at last begun on the
new apartment house on Frank
Street.
Mrs. Ralph Loney and Mrs.
Ted Morgan of Cass City, Mich.,
spent a few days last week with
Mrs. Charles Windsor and Mrs.
John Casey.
Mrs. S.J. Morrison and
children are spending a week
with Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Rummell,
Lucan.
Mr. & Mrs. Allan Tindall of
Wiarton were Sunday guests of
Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott, and
their granddaughter Muriel
Abbott is spending a few days
vacation with them.
Mr. & Mrs. Charles Sovereign
moved to their new home at
Pike Bay, Monday.

Home following the service at
Holy Trinity Church, Lucan,

Sunday last the Anniversary
of Holy Trinity Church was
commemorated, The
experimental Holy Communion
Service for the Episcopal Church
in Lansing, Mich. was used.
The guest preacher was Rev.
John Wagland who spoke on the
theme,. "Behold all things are
made ready," from the parable
our Lord told concerning the
communion feast. He said,
people still have feeble excuses
when they bear the church bell
ringing,

bride-elect included a
community shower held at
Wesley United Church and
another held at the home of Mrs.
William Martin, Toronto.
A social evening and
presentation honoured the
bride-elect and groom-elect at
West Adelaide Township Hall in
Adelaide village. A presentation
was also made to the bride-elect
by Wesley United Church.

were entertained at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jenken, RR
7 London and at a reception at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.
