FOR. ALL GOOD SPORTS.
By Ross Haugh
Courses
available
At the latest meeting of RAP we were given some
pamphlets and information on regional instruction
institutes that are being held throughout Ontario this
year through the co-operation of the Ontario
Department of Education.
If enough people are interested a course for
leaders and instructors in various arts and crafts and
almost any recreation activity will be held at Centralia
from August 17 to 22.
The list of subjects available at Centralia if
enough interest is shown totals nine and covers a broad
area.
First on the list is art which includes drawing, oil
painting, water colour, printmaking and textile painting
with a visual arts option.
The areas in crafts are quite numerous and
include pottery, weaving, rug hooking, leatherwork,
jewellery, plastics, woodcarving, metal sculpture and
papier ma che'.
For those interested in fashions, dressmaking,
tailoring and millinery courses will be offered at
Centralia.
Those aspiring to teach any courses concerning
food will have ample opportunity to further their
knowledge. On the food list is gourmet cooking, canapes
and fancy sandwiches, casseroles and foreign foods.
Interior decorating will also be offered locally.
To complete the subjects that may be made
available at Centralia we would mention physical
activities and executive group leadership.
The physical activities include sports of all kinds,
fitness games and exercise programs. The leadership
group would include community leadership in
organization of youth leaders and senior citizens'
groups, etc.
Any one wishing to avail themselves of this
opportunity to gain more knowledge in the various
fields mentioned should contact recreation director
Alvin Willert immediately.
Swim Pool Opens
Recreation director Alvin Willert reports that the
pool will be open for swimming Saturday and Sunday
from 2 to 4 in the afternoon and from 7 to 9 in the
evening.
Registration for swimming instruction will be
held- each afternoon from June 23 to 28 between the
hours of one o'clock and five o'clock.
The same rates will apply again this year with a
charge of $5 for each child and a family plan of $10 for
each family of three or more children.
Regular instruction will begin on Wednesday, July
2 with Miss Joan Warren of Windsor as the chief
instructor. She is the niece of Rev. Douglas Warren of
Main Street United Church. Assisting Joan will be Carol
Lynn Shapton and Judy Glover.
