New board gets
saving by tender
Another example of met-
erial savings being made by
the county board of education
through its new system. of calling
tenders for supplies was outlined
to the Middlesex board at its
Monday meeting.
In this case an unnamed area
board had chosen new furniture
for a school in co-operation with
the principal prior to Jan. 1,
after securing a quotation.
However board members and the
principal each assumed that the
other had placed the order and
recently it was discovered that
neither had sent in the order.
At this point it was turned
over to the county board's
central purchasing department
which called tenders for the
required furniture. The lowest
tender was $935.60 compared to
the price of $1,574.10
previously quoted to the former
board, an out right saving of
$639.50 on this one item.

local hotel strike
The strike of members of

Main issue in the walk-out is
wages. The same wage rate as
that paid in London is being
asked for all employees.
They also want fringe
benefits including
hospitalization. Negotiations
began in November 1968.
