The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kennedy of Huron Park, and the groom is the son of Mrs. Retta Barr of Pakenham, Ontario, and the late Herbert Barr, Given in marriage by her father, the bride had chosen a floor-length gown of white lagoda and chantilly lace. The sleeveless lace bodice was highlighted by a boat-shaped neckline and empire-waist. The gently-controlled A-line skirt was accented at the back with an extra fullness. Miss Lori Kennedy as junior bridesmaid and Miss Kim Kennedy and Miss Christine Kennedy as flowergirls, all sisters of the bride, wore identical floor-length gowns of fiesta pink chiffon with puff sleeves and empire waists, accented by multi-coloured guipure lace trimming. PATON CLANDEBOYE The annual Church picnic will be held Sunday, June 15. The congregation is asked to meet at Carter's General Store at 1:30 p.m. Each family is to bring a picnic lunch and proceed to Riverview Park in Exeter where the picnic will be held. There won't be a service in St, James June 15. The congregation is asked to attend the anniversary service at Holy Trinity Church, Lucan. ANGLICAN The 8 a.m. service of Holy Communion at Holy Trinity Church was attended by the A.Y.M., who afterwards had breakfast in the Parish Hall. At the usual morning service the lesson was read by a former member of the Church, Archdeacon Clarence Foreman of London. Rev. B.A. Carson preached on the theme, "Pride, Panic and Passivity.” After the service Angela Frances Hardy, daughter of Kenneth Wayne Hardy and Marilyn Louise (nee Powell) was baptized. Sunday, June 15, is Anniversary Sunday. During the regular morning service the experimental liturgy of the Lord's Supper as arranged by St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lansing, Michigan, will be / followed. Rev. J.F. Wagland B.A., B.D., a former rector will be guest preacher. Holy Baptism will be conducted at 12.05 p.m. A.C.W. Regular June meeting of the A.C.W. was held at the home of Mrs. W. Haskett, June 5 with 11 members and one visitor present. Mrs. Jack Murdy opened the meeting with prayers followed by a scripture reading. Mrs. Murdy read a letter from Mrs. Scorer, secretary of the Deanery and Mrs. Haggar sent $10 on behalf of the group. It was decided to recess for the months of July and August. Mrs. Harold Corbett has invited the members to have a pot-luck lunch at her farm home for the September meeting. Mrs. Harvey Hodgins read a paper on the movement "God is dead," which was followed by a discussion. Mr. Carson closed the meeting. Biddulph woman dies in London Bridget Nora Heenan, formerly of Biddulph Township, died in Marion Villa Hospital, in her 88th year, Thursday. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Heenan. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She rested at the C. Haskett and Son, Funeral Home, Lucan, until Monday, then at St. Patrick's Church, Biddulph, where Requiem High Mass was sung. Interment was in St. Patrick's Cemetery. The pallbearers were Paul Toohey, Jim McCarthy, Joe Grace, William Darren, Joe Mcllhargey and Tom Mitchell. Construction man buried in Quebec Charles Clifford Bradford died at St. Joseph's Hospital June 8 in his 67th year. He is survived by his Wife, Marian (Healy), Ilderton; one son, Brio, Davis, California; and two daughters, Mrs. William (Hazel) Elliott, Madod, Ontario, and Mrs. Ron (Amy) Bessey, Forestville, Quebec. The body rested at the T. Stephenson and on Funeral Home, Ailsa Craig, where a funeral service was donducted by Rev. M. A. Fife, Ilderton, Monday. Interment was in Trenholtn, Quebec. Mr. and Mrs. Bradford dame from Richmond, Quebec, and lived in the farm home of John Park for many years. They attended the United Church in Lucan before moving to Liken. Mr. Bradford had been employed by William Beadle Construction Company. Issue permits for Biddulph At the Township of Biddulph Council meeting June 3, approval was received from the Department of Highways for a normal road expenditure for 1969. The Vader Drain report was read and the Court of Revision was set for July 2. It was decided to advertise for tenders for the construction of the Smith Drain. Building Permits were issued to William Giesen for four houses on Lot 37 Con, 6; Gerald Bdginton, a house in Clandeboye; Pete Groenewegen, a milk-house on Lot 27, Con. 1; and Donald O'Neil a silo on Lot 38, Con. 5. July meeting will be held July 2 owing to the public holiday. CATHOLIC The Catholic Women's League held their regular meeting at St. Patrick's Church, Lucan, June 3. Members first attended mass at which the new executive was installed. There were 25 members present at the meeting. It was decided to have the annual pot-luck supper June 18 at 7 p.m. in the old school for all the ladies of the Parish. Mrs. Joe Whelihan was appointed convener. The guest speaker will be Mrs. Laurence Howard, first vice-president of London Diocese Executive. Mrs. Ivan Ross was appointed convener for the graduation banquet for Grade 8 students of St. Patrick's School, to be held June 24. The door prize was won by Mrs. J. Loyens. UNITED Last Sunday was Flower Sunday at Lucan United Church, and there were many baskets and vases of flowers, as well as canaries, at the morning service.. Cliff Culbert as Sunday School Superintendent led the Worship and Lynn Melanson and Tom Hearn gave the Bible readings. Combined junior choirs of the Anglican and United Churches sang three anthems. Rev. W.C. Tupling's sermon was entitled, "What the Flowers Teach." In the evening a Hi C Folk Service and Dedication to Mission Service was held. Bert Walker, as president of the Hi C led the worship. Betty Park led in prayer, and Jim Hearn gave the Bible reading. Many folk-songs were sung accompanied by David Kestle on the guitar, and Janis Freeman sang a solo accompanied by Miss Reta Chown at the piano. Rev. Susan Seymour of Granton and Wesley United Churches, was guest speaker. Treasurers of the youth groups of the church presented offerings to George Carpenter, Missionary and Maintenance Committee Treasurer. Next Sunday will be Anniversary Sunday when the guest speaker will be Rev. Donald Orth, former missionary in Japan, now of the Centralia School of Agriculture and Food. There will be special music by the choir, Village sets new tax rate Village of Lucan Council meeting was held June 2. The main item on the agenda was the budget and after lengthy discussions the following mill rates were set; public residential, 26,8 mills; public commercial, 29.9 mills; separate residential, 25.7 mills. The question of the drain on the easterly limits was brought up, and the drain committee, Harry Wraith and William Mathers with the assistance of. A.W, Thompson will look after this. A letter is being sent to the Lucan Lions Club expressing congratulations from the Reeve and Council to the Lions for the fine manner in which the park is being maintained. Sidewalks, when broken by the installation of water services, or sewer connections, are to be replaced and charged to the property owner. Mr. & Mrs. Mert. Culbert and family and Mrs. Frank Hardy Sr. celebrated Mrs. Culbert's birthday with a dinner-party at Wayside Inn near St. Thomas, and on the way home visited Mrs. Hardy's sister, Mrs. John Brock of London. Mrs. Eldon Hodgson has returned home after visiting her sister in Stratford. Mrs. Cliff Abbott and her sister Mrs. H.A. Mullins visited former Lucanites in the McCormick Home during her stay in London. Mr. & Mrs. Ed. Turnbull of Grand Bend and Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Day`^ were Sunday guests of Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott. Cliff who underwent surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital recently, had returned home last Friday. Archdeacon C.W. Foreman, his sister Miss Nellie Foreman, Mrs. Ada Jennings and Miss Lina Abbott of London, attended the 11 a.m. service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Lucan, where the Archdeacon read the lesson and Miss Abbott visited the League of Loyalty. After the service all enjoyed dinner at the Holiday Inn, London. Mrs. Charles Hayter underwent surgery at Victoria Hospital, last week, and is making satisfactory progress. In this case an unnamed area board had chosen new furniture for a school in co-operation with the principal prior to Jan. 1, after securing a quotation. However board members and the principal each assumed that the other had placed the order and recently it was discovered that neither had sent in the order. At this point it was turned over to the county board's central purchasing department which called tenders for the required furniture. The lowest tender was $935.60 compared to the price of $1,574.10 previously quoted to the former board, an out right saving of $639.50 on this one item. Mr. & Mrs. Clare Stanley and family visited with Mr. & Mrs. Roger Heath and family in Wallaceburg for the weekend, Ninth week for local hotel strike The strike of members of Local 448 for a first contract at the Central Hotel, Lucan, is running into its ninth week, with no sign of a contract being arranged. Main issue in the walk-out is wages. The same wage rate as that paid in London is being asked for all employees. They also want fringe benefits including hospitalization. Negotiations began in November 1968.
