CROMARTY
It was with deep regret that
the people of Cromarty and
community learned that their
post office would be closed,
June 10, 1969.
Cromarty Post Office was
first established in 1856 and the
duties of the first postmaster,
John McLaren commenced
December 1 of the same year in
the home now occupied by Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Dodds.
This office was under the
supervision of the, London
office.
During the years many
changes have taken place in the
village and very few of the
original inhabitants now remain
to add information regarding the
exact location of the buildings
where the post office was
located.
In the "Story of Hibbert
Township", compiled by Miss
Isabelle Campbell in 1952, she
gives a complete list of all those
who had served in the capacity
of postmaster or postmistress
and also years of service from
1856 until 1948.
Several changes followed
until 1955 when Mr. Otto
Walker was appointed to the
office and with Mrs. Walker as a
competent assistant, continued
to serve faithfully until
Cromarty post office was closed
this week.
Cromarty and district will
now be served from Staffa Post
Office and will be known as
Staffa, RR 2.
