"With this new Tref Ian, we can grow beans on dirty land as well': says Ken Mailoux. "Treflan gives me 100% control of foxtail, lambsquarters and pigweed," says Clifford Wildblood, 1' Treflan is giving beangrowers the weed control they need to help lower labour costs and achieve better profits. Ken Mailoux of Comber, Ontario, found the worst weeds in his soybeans were pigweed and lambsquarters. Now "Trawl is controlling the weeds very well," he says, "This year, because of all the rain, 1 haven't been able to rotary hoe, and Treflan's really done.the job for me,", Clifford Wildblood farms a fertile day loam that can really grow white beans — and weeds — at Chatham, Ontario. He's been using Treflan for two years now "with very satisfactory results," Clifford finds it pays to make sure Treflan is properly incorporated in the soil before planting time. And it's simple to do. "I work it in, disc both ways before planting ... that's all," he says. Tteflan Can help you achieve results like these. Cook Bros. Milling Co. Ltd. Hensatl Phone: 262,2605 Dwight Etherington, 11R 1 Hensall with a score of 96, In competition for the Huron County Beef Producers Association award Brian Miller, RR 3 Exeter tied with Joe Phelan of Blyth for second place with a score of 192 out of a possible 200. The winner with 193 points was Murray Morrisson, RR 1 Lucknow. Tom Papple of Seaforth was the overall judging champion with four wins to his credit. He captured the senior open competition, the Blatchford Feeds trophy for the highest score in the entire competition and compiled the highest scores in each of the swine and dairy sections. Helen Chandler, RR 3 Wingham took the novice crown open to all men and women, 12-17 years of age entering judging competition for the first time with no previous 4-H club experience. She also took the Canadian National Exhibition shield as the high novice judge. Joe Phelan won the intermediate championship, CFO chairman announces plans Malcolm Davidson of Brucefield, chairman of the General Farm Organization Campaign Committee is officially launching the campaign at four meetings across Ontario this week. Today, Thursday, Mr. Davidson and some county chairmen will be at the Carousel Inn at London from 2.30 to 3.30 and at the William Pitt Hotel in Chatham from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, they will be at the Holiday Inn at Brantford from 12 noon until 1 p.m. and at the Masonic Hall in Arthur from 5 to 6 p.m. .&zoft Reizoite The majority of the corn crop in Huron County has been planted as of the end of May. Farmers are now preparing the ground for soybean and white bean plantings. Spring grains, in most cases, look good although some farmers report yellowing due to too much moisture earlier on. Hay and pasture crops are coming on well, and should provide lots of feed now and when the haying season comes. Beef prices getting higher President of the Ontario. Farmers' Union, Walter Miller, said this week that the present meat price increases to consumers pre very unfair. Supermarkets were selling sirloin steak a few months ago for 99 cents per lb., and now the prices are anywhere from $1-,39 to $1.69, This is a 40 to 70 cent increase. Packinghouse an d retail expenses haven't increased proportionately in the last few months. Beef producers are receiving only 6 to 8 cents per lb. liveweight more than a few months ago when they were receiving only 29 to 31 cents per lb, The increased liveweight prices would increase retail prices 12 to 15 cents per pound, but nowhere near the 40 to 70 cents consumers are now being charged. Financial statements of meatpackers and supermarkets have indicated very healthy profits over several years, made at the expense of farmers. The Farmers' Union will contact the Consumers' Association and the government to ask for an 'inquiry into the extra prices charged to consumers that are not paid to the primary producer. The National harmers Organization in the United States has successfully embarked on a collective bargaining marketing system to improve the low prices paid to farmers. The Farmers' Union in Canada is also in the process of setting up a collective bargaining marketing system.
