Teresa H. Bosman, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John H.
Bosman, Guelph, became the
bride of Alfred P. Aquiline, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Aquiline,
Exeter, in a ceremony in the
Christian Reformed Church,
Guelph, May 9.
Rev, D.J. Scholten officiated
for the marriage. Music was
provided by F. Sloot, organist,
and Mrs. M. Montmorency,
Toronto.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a
polyester satin floor-length gown
fashioned along simple A-line.
Full-length panels skimmed the
figure from neck to hemline.
The long bell sleeves and the
hemline were trimmed with
delicate lace. Matching lace
touched with pearls enhanced
the jewel neckline. Her
floor-length veil which swept to
a slight train was held in place
by a wedding ring headdress. She
carried a cascade of pink roses
and white stephanotis,
Bridal attendants were Mrs. J.
Wiebenga, Guelph, Miss Sandi
Bennewies, Moose Factory, and
Miss Maria Aquiline, London.
They were gowned alike in
floor-length mint green polyester
satin gowns styled with empire,
waistlines trimmed with tiny
bows, short bell sleeves and
A-line skirts. They wore shasta
daisies in their hair and carried
cascades of shasta daisies.
John Dicicco, Sarnia, was
best man. Ushers were Tony
Aquiline, Ottawa, and Gregory
Spencer, Burlington.

There's something for
everyone at 17 Morenz Lane in
Grand Bend where Ruth Anne
Merrier and Lynda Thompson
wait to introduce you to the
wild world of color and texture.
The tiny cottage nestled on
the edge of the river among tall
swaying trees is vaguely
reminiscent of pioneer days and
the past, But inside its modest
frame is a collection of arts and
crafts that is as modern as
tomorrow.
The proprietors are both
graduates in fine arts from the
University of Toronto. Mrs.
Ronald Merner (the former Ruth
Anne Salmon) Dashwood, and
Lynda Thompson, Oshawa, talk
easily and au thoritively
concerning the work on display
at 17 Morenz Lane.
The shop had its official
opening Sunday, Those who
called were treated to an original
showing of arts and crafts
completed by artists from as
close by as London and Toronto
and as far away as Saskatchewan
and Hong Kong.
About 35 young artists are
contributing to 17 Morenz Lane
on a consignment basis.
Huge batik prints catch the
eye of most visitors, These wax
and dye creations are striking
examples of the modern art
conception. One on display now
at 17 Morenz Lane is a mixture
of brilliant blues but Ruth Anne
and Lynda have an agreement
whereby they can commission
any of the contributing artists to
do an original painting or print
in the color and design of the
customer's choice.
Even portraits are available
on request!
Another giant canvass is being
shown featuring boats in an
unusual combination of orange
and yellow tones. The oils have
not been brushed on in the
conventional manner, but have
been laden on the canvass with a
knife to give the painting real
dimension.
Two delicate Chinese prints
are hung in a prominent spot.
Also shown is a pretty little fan
handmade in Chinese custom.
Wall hangings of all varieties
are available, some in batik,
some in felt and still others
woven of wool.
These woollen wall hangings
are made by a Danish woman at
Oshawa who takes the raw wool
from the sheep, spins it into
yarn, dyes it with natural
resources such as onion skins
and weaves it into the most
intricately lovely wall hangings
and pillow coverings imaginable.
Lynda said that the looms
used by this artist are about 170
years old, While all of the wall
hangings from her that are on
display at 17 Morenz Lane are
dressed up with miniature bells,
the beauty of them is truly in
the fine craftsmanship. It takes
about one month to complete
one wall hanging!
Birds and butterflies
constructed of paper are also
shown at the little shop along
with photography prints,
linoleum and wood cuts, copper
enamelling and various other
expressions of creativity,
There are ceramic pieces to
delight the most impeccable
taste including some unusual
vases. Most intriguing of all are
the vases in stark grey and black,
made without holes so that they
will not hold flowers. The artist
has instead built in a gentle 'ring'
heard only when the vase is
shaken.
"They are a combination of
pottery and sculpture," says
Ruth Anne.
And there are flowers .. . all
kinds and all colors. There are
the large gaudy paper ones in
every color of the rainbow, there
are the smaller brown ones
constructed from brown paper
wrappings, and there are the real
ones, fresh from the garden,
which are sold in bunches or in
special color arrangements for
the table or buffet.
The mothers of both the girls
contribute flowers. Mrs. Clifford
Salmon, Dashwood, grows some
of the district's most colorful
gladioli and Mrs. Pearl
Thompson, Oshawa, takes
ordinary dime-store artificial
blooms and turns them into rich
arrangements shimmering with
touches of gold.
Mrs. Salmon also crochets
tams, especially fashionable
accessories for the gal who
appreciates something handmade
in her wardrobe.
Mrs. Thompson is an amateur
painter and some of her work is
for sale at 17 Morenz Lane.
Most of all, 17 Morenz Lane
will give Ruth Anne and Lynda
the opportunity they want to
"do their own thing." Both of
them are talented artists and
both plan to work right at the
shop at the crafts they love best.
Lynda makes earrings, batik
neckties and scarves, antique
candleholders, prints, etchings,
engravings and paintings. Ruth
Anne's specialties are batik and
felt wall hangings, knitted ties,
candle making, fancy notepaper,
silk screened place mats,
etchings and prints.
Prices? Well, in some
locations an original batik scarf
can cost up to $20 depending on
the size and who makes it, but at
17 Morena Lane you will buy an
authentic scarf for under $5.
Each artist puts the price on
his or her own work, but Ruth
Anne and Lynda are proud that
there will be items available in
every price range, from about $1
to $100,
It is the first business venture
for the girls but it would seem
they are off on the right foot.
They have provided plenty of
atmosphere as well as an
interesting collection of
"everything from crafts to really
arty art." Their charming
manners will undoubtedly do
the rest.
