Calgary. Despite resolutions from most of the 11 branches of the CAHA to change the age limit for junior hockey eligibility, the board of directors decided to leave the limit at 20 as of December 31 of any year. The CAHA junior age limit is governed by its agreement with the National Hockey League that was signed in May of 1967. Under the agreement, the NHL supplies money to the CAHA for development of hockey in Canada, getting in return the right to draft players when they exhaust their junior hockey eligibility. In 1968, the CAHA received $603,000 from the NHL and president Earl Dawson of the amateur group said they will be asking for considerably more this year. Dawson will be attending the International Ice Hockey Federation congress in Switzerland in July and will be asking for an open world championship and a change in the date for professional reinstatements. The CAHA will make a bid for instant reinstatements and to do away with the current cut-off date of August 31. Busier Than Ever If hockey fans think Gordie Howe is a busy fellow in the winter time as a solid performer with the Detroit Red Wings, they should follow the schedule the popular winger has lined up for the summer. Howe, now 41 and chosen recently to the NHL all-star team for an unprecedented 11th time said he's scheduled to have only three days off this summer. Shortly after the Red Wings ended their season on March 30, Howe took his two oldest sons on a deep sea fishing trip to Ecuador. Accompanying the popular hockey family was Red Wing coach Bill Gadsby. Howe had a busy schedule ahead of him on his return to Detroit. He recently signed a three-year contract to join Lincoln — Mercury's Sports Panel and will make appearances on the company's behalf from coast-to-coast. Much of July will be spent travelling across Canada for Eaton's, an annual expedition for Howe for many years now, plus playing in the new American Airlines Astrojet hockey tournament on Toronto. Then comes the Howe-Gadsby franchised hockey schools. Basically that consists of six instructional films on every phase of the game. And, Howe also has schools at his own suburban Detroit rink that run a month or so. Besides that, Gordie is learning the insurance business. With his last contract club president Bruce Norris made Howe a vice-president of the Norris insurance agency. Throw in the assorted banquets he attends, both in the Detroit area and in Canada and it's easy to see why his summers are getting busier. Get Your Tickets Early We always believe in buying tickets early for any important sports event to ensure good accommodation, but some fans planning on attending the World Hockey tournament to be held here in Canada in 1970 are really jumping the gun. Officials report that ticket sales have reached 4,500 sets for the second half of the tourney to be held at the Winnipeg Arena March 22-29. This is equivalent to 67,500 tickets for the 15 games. Tickets have been sold to groups in Sweden, where a Swedish travel agency plans to bring almost 700 fans over for the championships next March. Terry Hind, director of promotions, said recently that hockey fans may secure tickets by simply writing to World Hockey 1970, Room 16, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Allocation of seats is on a first-come-first served basis. Tickets will sell for $75 for the 15 games. More Hockey Notes Members of the Montreal Canadiens received a very nice cash bonus for winning the Stanley Cup, but a couple of their performers got a little extra. While each regular member of the Canadiens picked up $9,750 for their playoff efforts, Jean Belliveau accumulated a grand total of $11,500 and Serge Savard with his Smythe Trophy award grabbed off $11,250. Glenn Hall gained the same amount of monetary return for playoff play as Savard. T-A photo Uilke Nagel advances to Toronto track meet Athletes from South Huron District High School again made a commendable showing in Western Ontario track and field meets over the past week. At the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association meet held at J. W. Little Memorial Stadium at London, Saturday, Uilke Nagel of South Huron won the 120-yard hurdles in a time of 16.1 seconds. Nagel will be competing in the Central Ontario Secondary Schools Association track and field meet in Toronto on Friday and Saturday of this week. Larry Bourne, who won the Huron-Perth Conference midget championship a week earlier finished fifth in the 100-yard dash. Also in the midget division, Paul McKnight gained a new personal record in the discus throw with a distance of 127' 111/2" to place sixth. The midget relay team consisting of Bourne, Peter Kleinstiver, Randy Preszcator and Don Truemner lowered their own record from 55 seconds to 48.1 seconds. They placed fifth Lawn bowlers get early start A few members of the Exeter lawn bowling club jumped the gun over the past week to get in a little practice in preparation for the official opening that was held yesterday, Wednesday. At Saturday's first unofficial competition, a three-Way tie for first place existed as far as wins and pluses were concerned and aggregate scores were used to produce a winner. Harold Simpson was awarded top spot with an aggregate of 26, Lila Smith was second with 25 and Peter Plantinga in third spot with 21. The top three trundlers had each won two games with identical pluses of 10. Tuesday night, Lila Smith was right back in contention and copped first place With two wins and a plus of 16. Club president Len McKnight placed second and a newcomer to the game Ed Smith followed in third spot.
