An Institute book and pin was presented to a new member, Mrs. Don Brodie. Mrs. Harry Caldwell gave the treasurer's report. A reading 6 • entitled "Mothers" was read by Mrs. Ken McKay. Delegates to Elimville Area Convention were Mrs. Ken McKay, Mrs. James Drummond, Mrs. S. Pepper and Mrs. Wm Kyle. Donations of $10 were given • to the cystic fibrosis and $25 to The Childrens Aid at Goderich to send a child to camp. • • • • • • The June meeting was reviewed. Mrs. Harry Caldwell gave the motto. A piano duet was played by Linda Beer and Linda Bell. Safety in the kitchen was given by Mrs. Grant MacLean. The 4-H girls were guests and two of them, Maureen Connolly Residents of Zurich and community were saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Mrs. H.J. Raymond McKinnon, 41, who died very suddenly at her home in Zurich Saturday of a heart attack. Mrs. McKinnon was the former Elizabeth Ann Lowry of Perth. Her husband, manager of the Bank of Montreal at Zurich for four years was recently transferred to Haliburton. At a farewell presentation held for them Sunday, May 11, Mrs. McKinnon was voted "Mother of the Day." Surviving are her husband; seven sons, Kevin, Shane, Kimberly, Randall, Jeffrey, Wayne and Derek; one daughter, Nancy Rae; her mother, Mrs. Rose Lowry, Perth; four brothers, John, James and Lloyd all of Perth and Thomas, Halifax, N.S.; two sisters, Mrs. Vern (Agnes) McKenney, Smith Falls and Mrs. Gerald (Rose) Ryan, Perth. The late Mrs. McKinnon rested at the Westlake Funeral Home, Zurich until Monday when the body was taken by motor to Blair and Son Funeral Home, Perth. Funeral mass was and Barbara Gemmel! gave a demonstration on cooking steak. Gifts were presented to two club leaders, Mrs. Harry Caldwell and Mrs. Mike Connolly. Mrs. Verne Alderdice gave a reading. Contests were conducted by Mrs. Harry Caldwell and Mrs. Connolly. sung in St. Johns R.C. Church Tuesday. Interment was in St. Johns R.C. Cemetery. They are delegates for the London- Hamilton Synodical. Mrs. Hess will visit with members of her family at Don Mills. Flowers in the United Church Sanctuary Sunday morning were in loving memory of James S. Petty and Mrs. Alfred Clark, placed by their families. Flowers in St. Pauls Anglican Church Sunday morning were in memory of the late James S. Petty. Mrs. Mary Taylor, Mrs. Elizabeth Riley and Mrs. James Howe, Woodstock, left by train Thursday to vacation with relatives and friends in Vancouver. Clark Forrest recently received an advanced amateur certificate of proficiency in radio. W.O. Goodwin is a patient in Victoria Hospital where he underwent eye surgery. Orr and Mrs. Elizabeth Riley attended the South Huron WI District Annual Mrs. Garnet Allan, Mrs. Clarence Reid, Mrs. Grant McClinchey, Mrs. Wm Smale, Mrs. Gordon Munn, Mrs. Harold Campbell, Mrs. Mary Taylor, Mrs. W.H. Bell and Mrs. Wm Forrester attended the Legion Auxiliary Zone C-I Rally at Lucknow Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Alf Scholl and Mr. & Mrs. Walter Spencer have returned from a delightful vacation for one month in Spain and Portugal. They flew by jet. Mr. & Mrs. Charles Crouch and Miss Lynne Crouch, Arva and Robert Mickle, London, were dinner guests Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Laird Mickle. Forty attended. The bridal table was centered by a three-tier wedding cake flanked with vases of roses. A reception was held later in the evening in Zurich Community Centre with over 200 attending and offering congratulations to the happy couple. Mr. and Mrs. Adkins were married June 18, 1919, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Zurich, by the late Rev. E. Rembe. Bridesmaid was Verda Schwartz of Detroit, and the best man was the late David Fuss. Both Mr. and Mrs. Adkins are active members of their church. Mrs Adkins has been a member for over 70 years and Mr. Adkins for over fifty years. They farmed in Hay Township on the same farm for 49 years and still reside there. Mrs. Adkins is the former Violet Fuss. Both she and her husband are enjoying the best of health and are still very active. Their family includes five sons, Howard, RR 2 Zurich; Wilmer, Exeter; Sgt. Stewart Adkins, North Bay; Jack, Courtright; Donald, Sarnia; one daughter, Mrs. Ernie (Shirley) Powell, Goderich; 14 grandchildren. Their son Stewart, North Bay, who is stationed with the RCAF, has been posted to India for a year and leaves June 2. For this reason, the celebration had to be held earlier. The couple were the recipients of many lovely gifts, including a T.V. from their family. Congratulatory messages included a telegram from Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada; a framed scroll from Premier John Robarts, a personal telephone call from Hon. Robert Stanfield, Leader of the Opposition; messages from Charles S. MacNaughton, Provincial Treasurer and Robert McKinley, Huron M.P.; and a telegram from Mr. and Mrs. William Adkins of Owen Sound, a brother and sister-in-law of Mr. Adkins. Relatives and guests attended the celebration from London, England; Dundas, Toronto, North Bay, Courtright, Sarnia, Goderich, Exeter, Zurich and Hensall. Amber Lodge will visit Exeter Amber Rebekah Lodge met Wednesday evening for their regular meeting presided over by Noble Grand Mrs. Earl Campbell. An invitation was accepted to join with members of Exeter Lodge at their 22nd birthday anniversary June 4. Three car loads expect to attend. Members reported attending the banquet and 60th birthday party of Goderich Lodge May 16 when Goderich Lodge was presented with a money tree, each Lodge having contributed to it. Next meeting will be a half hour earlier June 4 to allow members to go to Exeter. Nomination of officers for 1969-70 took place at this meeting with second nomination to be held June 4.
