CLINTON, ONTARIO
An Important Message
to the Citizens of
LUCAN, CENTRALIA,
EXETER and HENSALL
Union Gas Company will shortly begin
construction of natural gas distribution
systems to serve the residents of Lucan,
Centralia and Exeter. A similar gas
distribution system is also planned for
Hensall, subject to Ontario Energy Board
approval being sought at hearings to be
held in June. It is expected that natural
gas service will be available to residents of
these communities by late summer of this
year.
The company representatives conducting
the canvass will identify themselves
immediately by showing the householder
an official identification cardif someone
calls on you in the name of Union Gas
Company and fails to show his identity
card, please ask to see it.
In order to provide this service, Union
Gas Company will construct a
25-mile-long, 4-inch diameter
transmission line to bring natural gas to
these communities from the Company's
main transmission line near Elginfield.
This 4-inch transmission line will be
connected in turn to each community's
distribution system thus making natural
gas available along most streets in Lucan,
Centralia, Exeter and Hensall.
Construction of this distribution system
will necessitate disturbing certain streets,
sidewalks and lawns, from time to time
during the next few months. Union Gas
regrets any temporary inconvenience this
construction may cause and wishes to
assure those affected that the work will
be completed as quickly and as efficiently
as possible. Also, disturbed areas will be
restored to their normal condition with
the least possible delay and
inconvenience.
Construction of each distribution system
will be carried out by areas successively
and the company will provide advance
notification to the householders in each
area.
Union Gas Company is a privately-owned
utility company which operates under
regulations of the Ontario Department of
Energy and Resources Management. The
entire cost of installing these natural gas
transmission and distribution systems will
be borne by the company without any
cost to the communities or their tax
payers. Actually, Union Gas Company
will become a new taxpayer in the town.
In order to determine where gas
distribution lines will be initially
required, Union Gas representatives are
commencing a door-to-door canvass of
householders throughout the town, If
you are called upon during the next few
weeks, your co-operation in answering
the canvasser's questions will be greatly
appreciated.
Union Gas Company currently provides
natural gas service to some 315,000
customers in 248 cities, towns, villages,
police villages and townships in the 17
Southwestern Ontario counties of Brant,
Bruce, Elgin, Essex, Grey, Haldimand,
Halton, Huron, Kent, Lambton,
Middlesex, Norfolk, Oxford, Perth,
Waterloo, Wellington and Wentworth.
The company takes pride in the fact that,
through the years, it has become accepted
as a "good citizen" of each of these
municipalities, The company hopes soon
to be recognized in the same way in
Lucan, Centralia, Exeter and Hensall.

Streets in the village have
now been treated with calcium.
A by-law prohibiting the use
of trailers within the village was
discussed and finally passed.
Two new street lights were
approved, to be erected on
Duchess Ave. between Beech
and Oak Streets.
The completion of George
Street construction was a major
item of the meeting and plans
have been made to complete this
work.

The company came to the
customer last week, rather than
the other way about, when
Union Gas Company's special
"Pacesetter" trailer visited the
residential streets of Lucan,
The attractive, 24.fopt trailer
is designed to acquaint the
public with the variety and
modernity of natural gas
appliances. At the same time a
staff of trained Union Gas
personnel was be on hand to
answer visitors' questions on
natural gas and Union Gas
service.
Next week, Union Gas will
be constructing an 18 mile, four
inch diameter pipeline from its
main transmission line near
Elginfield north to Lucan,
Centralia and Exeter. In June
the Company will seek Energy
Board approval to extend this
line an additional 6.8 miles to
Hensall. The total cost of the
whole project, including local
distribution systems, is
estimated at more than
$800.000.
With natural gas service soon
to be available in Lucan,
housewives should find the
"Pacesetter" trailer especially
helpful. As the trailer arrives on
each street, gas company
representatives will extend a
personal invitation to residents
to visit the trailer and see for
themselves.
