Fete bride at Elimville Police talk to Institute By MRS. ROSS SKINNER The Elimville Women's Institute held their May meeting at Elimville Hall Wednesday evening. New president, Mrs. Ivan Brock, was in charge. Mrs. Theron Crecy presented the 4-H Club girls with gifts, Miss Elaine Johns & Miss Ava Elford for Provincial Honours; Miss Karen Kerslake & Miss Joan Lynn for County Honours, Mrs. Gilbert Johns presented a gift to Mrs. Creery, the past president for two years. The Safety Committee, Mrs. Jerry Grubb & Mrs. Carl Gower were in charge of the program. The motto was given by Mrs. Gower. Special guests were Chief Ted Day and Corp. Harry Vanbergen from the Exeter Police Department giving some of their experiences as policemen and an outline of their many duties. A skit "Vary the Meat in Your Menu" was presented by Club No. 3, which they presented on Achievement Day. Mrs. Brock took charge of the business. Roll call was . "Safety on the farm and in the home." Mrs, Allen Johns was nominated to attend the meetings of the Auxiliary held at Huronview, Miss Ruth Skinner gave the hospital report, Mrs. Tom Hera reported on the bus trip. Mrs. Theron Creery gave her report of the trip to Guelph Conference. The - Elimville Institute is catering to the Usborne Central School graduation banquet, June 26. COMMUNITY SHOWER A community shower was held Friday evening at the church in honour of Miss Kathy Hera, of Winchelsea, bride-elect of Saturday. Miss Sharon Fletcher escorted. Kathy to a prettily decorated chair and Miss Susan Allen read the address. After receiving her gifts from a beautifully decorated Wishing Well, Kathy thanked everyone for the lovely gifts she had received. Miss Susan Parsons favoured with a guitar number and the Pym girls, Joan, Elaine and Margaret, sang several humorous selections. I RVIN RADER The May meeting of the United Church Women of Calvary United Church was a mother and daughter banquet in potluck style with Mrs. Harry Hoffman's group in charge. A toast to the mothers was made by Dianne Weber replied to by Mrs. Hugh Boyle. Debbie Riddell and Patricia Bender played several piano and accordion selections. Patricia Bender and Susan Grigg played several accordion duets. Everyone joined in on a sing song of appropriate mother-daughter songs. A reading by Mrs. Eben Wiegand explained how Mother's day originated. Mrs. Irvin Schade favoured with a poem. Mrs. Jessie Rader read the scripture and Mrs. Clayton Merner led in prayer. Chairlady Mrs. Don Gaiser introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Howard Zurbrigg who spoke on motherhood. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Wes Wolfe, oldest mother present and Faye Gaiser, youngest daughter. President Mrs. Eben Weigand conducted a short business meeting. An invitation to attend a Tulip Tea May 21 at Centralia United church was accepted. It was decided to sponsor a child to camp at Camp Bimini. A card of thanks was read from the Children's Aid for the donation of pyjamas and crib quilts. Mrs. Harold Hendrick was welcomed as a member. A strawberry social will be held June 25. PIANO RECITAL Mrs. Harold Stire held a piano recital for her pupils at Dashwood Community centre Tuesday, May 13. A programme of solos and duets was featured. The pupils presented Mrs. Stire with a gift. Games and lunch rounded out the evening. BUS TRIP Several Dashwood ladies joined with the Grand Bend W.I. for a chartered bus trip to Niagara Falls, the Adelaide Hoodless homestead, and other points of interest last Thursday.
