Many of the plastic plumbing
fittings that are used throughout
the province of Ontario are
manufactured at Centralia's
Industrial Park,
Daymond Plastics Limited
began operation at the Centralia
complex on November 4, 1968
and produce 114 different
plumbing fittings.
The head office and two
plants of the company are
located in Chatham with other
operations in Rexdale,
Vancouver and Calgary in
addition to Centralia.
Manufacture of the plastic
fitting last year at Huron Park
was the beginning of a new line
for Daymond. In addition to the
plumbing fittings plastic wall tile
and trim are produced at the
local plant.
Plant manager Ed Godin said,
"Our product is sold directly to
the plumber and we don't
compete with our buyers by
putting the fittings for sale in
stores.
Daymond's Centralia plant
now employs 32 persons, all
recruited from this immediate
area and production is
maintained 24-hours per day and
seven days a week.
The plant is located in
one-half of Hangar 7 which
formerly housed the Mobile
Equipment Section at the
Centralia Canadian Forces Base.
Godin said the plastic pipe
fittings were the main business
of Daymond at Huron Park but
wall tiles were produced and
sold directly to Alcan Mobile
Homes and Simpson-Sears.
The plumbing fittings are sold
under the trade name of Yardley
while Daymond is the trade
name of the wall tile products.
The parent firm deals in both
plastics and aluminum.
Aluminum doors and windows
are extruded at Chatham and
assembled at Rexdale. The local
plant manager said a lot of the
doors and windows reach the
mobile home manufacturers in
this area.

Hay approve
four-way stop
At its latest meeting Hay
township council approved a
plan to develop a four-way stop
at the corner of the Goshen Line
and the Town Line.
Eventually, they plan on
making the Goshen a through
road, but under DHO regulations
the intersection must first be
turned into a four-way stop.
A by-law was passed at the
meeting allowing the
Tuckersmith Municipal
Telephone System permission to
bury cable on the second
concession. Another by-law,
setting out subdivision control
on Hay Township, was given and
first and second reading at the
meeting.
Regarding the Eacrett
municipal drain report, members
of council referred the plan back
to • the engineer for further
consideration.
Tenders are being called by
the township for the supply of
17,000 cubic yards of sand
cushion, to cover two and a half
miles of road on the Bronson
Line north.
Having received a notification
from the Ontario Department of
Health regarding the burning of
refuse at the township dump,
the council instructed clerk
Wayne Horner to write to the
Department asking for a permit
to allow such burning. All
municipalities have received the
same notice from the
department advising them that
they are guilty of air pollution
by allowing burning at their
municipal dumps.
The Hay Council is also
asking the department for
recommendations as to an
alternative plan, if such a permit
should not be allowed.
Hay Township has offered
the village of Ilensall to pay 321/2
percent of the new fire truck for
that municipality, as long as the
township share does not amount
to over $5,000, Negotiations
have been going on for some
months now between Hay,
Tuckersmith and Hefitall
regarding fire protection.
Those teachers who will be
leaving the school's employ are
Mait Edgar to be vice-princial at
Petrolia; Tim Dunn, to Niagara
Falls; Mrs. Don Webster and Mrs.
Yearsley, both retiring; Miss
Nora Hall, studying for her
Masters in social work; Roy
Stevenson, leaving for a world
tour; Mrs. Susan Minsos, moving
to Vancouver with her husband;
Mrs. Margaret Connelley, to
South Secondary School in
London; Mrs. Janes, to
Westminster, London; Mrs.
Mitchell to Sarnia.
Open house at SHDHS is
scheduled for June 11.
Final examinations will begin
June 13 or June 16 and school
will let out for the summer
recess June 20.
Dear Sir,
Last Saturday, on our travels,
passing through Zurich, my wife
and I came upon a group of
teenagers, some twenty five in
number, who had taken
possession of a hardware store,
and in dilapidated jeans and
smocks and wild head gear, were
staging a "Paint-in."
All the furniture had been
tossed out, and there this gang
was, making all sorts of
rhythmic motions, in every
position possible, scraping the
floors, scrubbing the walls,
painting the ceilings.
They were rudely dressed —
for a purpose; they were
odoriferous — with turpentine;
they were in every kind of pose
— to reach difficult spots. They
were surely "hipped'- — to help
a merchant clean up after a
disastrous fire.
Thank God for young people
like the young Mennonite group,
who were using up their
abundant energy to good
purpose. We should take our
hats off to such youth who do
not need artificial stimulants to
"turn them on."
Sincerely yours,
Rev. It. V. Wilson,
Centralia, Ont.
Editor's note: A letter in last
week's edition of the Zurich
Citizens-News from Mr. and Mrs.
Gerald Gingerich, fire victims,
also praised the efforts of the
young people, as well as many
other community-minded people
who helped with the dean-up.
Said the Gingerichs "It makes
one want to break down and cry.),
You Cannot put the same shoe
On every foot.

Even though the 1969 VW Squareback,
Fastback and Notchback sedans are the only cars
in the world with computerized fuel injection as standard equipment,
underneath it all they're still humble, hardworking Volkswagens.
YOU still get an air-cooled engine in the rear that doesn't need water
or antifreeze.
You still get around 31 miles to a gallon of gas.
And despite other innovations like
a new double joint rear axle and
a heated rear window, we've
still made sure that you get a car
that isn't too smart for its own good.
Because we wouldn't want it said
that we let our electronic brains go
to our hoods.
