colorful show
Reeve Oliver Jaques officially
opened the first Victoria Day
Fireworks display held at
Hensall Community Park
Monday night, sponsored by
Hensall Fire Department.
A crowd of over 1,000 far
exceeded the expections of the
firemen.
A display of some 70 pieces
of fireworks was shown and
admired by the spectators.
A draw was made and the
winners were: barbeque,
Winston Workman, Exeter;
picnic cooler, Murray Harburn,
Hensall; chaise lounge, Lloyd
Reynolds, RR1 Hensall.
Lucky tickets were drawn by
Reeve Jaques, Wayne Reid,
president of Hensall Kinsmen
and third Fire Chief Dave
Sangster.
A refreshment booth on the
grounds did a rushing business.
Zurich woman
buried today
In South Huron Hospital,
Exeter, Monday, May 19, Jessie
Anna McArthur, 78, beloved
wife of the late Roy Lamont of
Zurich passed away.
The late Mrs. Lamont was
born Debember 4, 1890,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Robert McArthur,
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. Melvin (Margaret) Elliott,
RR 1 Zurich.

two sisters, Mrs.
Jean Manson, Exeter; Mrs. Nellie
Reid, Lohdon; two
grandchildren, William Elliott,
St. Thomas, and Joan Elliott,
RR 1 Zurich; and one great
grandchild. •
The body is resting at the
Westlake Funeral Home, Zurich,
where public service will be held
today (Thursday) at 2 pm
conducted by Rev. M. Morrison.
Burial will be in Bayfield
Cemetery.

The Grand Bend Women's
Institute with Mrs. Raymond
Kading, convener of Group 2 in
charge, sponsored a bus trip with
Institute members and friends
attending, last'Thursday.
They visited The Adelaide
Hoodless Home at St. George,
Niagara Falls, the Nabisco
Shredded Wheat Company,
Dundurn Castle and the Royal
Botanical Gardens at Hamilton.
They had dinner at the
Plainman's Restaurant before
leaving for home.
Mrs. Wm. Love, president,
thanked Mrs. Kading for her part
in planning the bus trip, and
reminded the ladies of the
District Annual, May 22.
At the regular meeting of the
WI May 29, some of the younger
ladies will be taking part in the
meeting. Mrs. Keith Gill will be
demonstrating fancy cakes and
icings.

Mrs. Pym showed pictures of
her trip to Europe.

Grandmothers were special
guests of Hensall Women
Institute Historical Research
meeting held last Wednesday.
First vice-president Mrs. James
McAllister presided and
extended a welcome to 50
members and guests.
Members responded to the
roll call by naming a song
popular in their teens.
It was announced that the
meeting of the Historical Society
will be held at Auburn, May 26
at 8 p.m. Mrs. R. Simpson and
Mrs. C. Reid are to arrange
transportation.
Mrs. Elizabeth Riley gave a
splendid report of the officers'
convention held in Guelph.
The June meeting will take
the form of a picnic in the
Legion Hall with supper at 6:30
p.m.
Mrs. T.J. Sherritt chaired the
program which consisted of a
sing-song with Miss Greta
Lammie accompanist. Mrs. Fred
Beer read an interesting essay
"What a Grandmother Is" and
Mrs. Elgie presented a
demonstration on the flowers of
the ten provinces of Canada.
