Mrs. Frank Hardy Snr. and Mrs. Mary Hodgson were Wednesday guests of Mr. & Mrs. Harry Hardy, who in the afternoon took them for a long drive to the former SS No, 2 School and other places, with their childhood interest. A number of Lucanites, last Saturday attended a shower in St. Patrick's Church,-Saintsbury, given for Miss Nancy Saddington of London whose marriage to Leroy Maguire of RR 1, Lucan, will take place May 17. PERSONALS Your reporter, Mrs. F. Saward, now has a box beside her front door as well as the one in Young's Store and would be very glad if those with news items would use either when she is not available. Mr. & Mrs. Russell Thompson were overnight guests last Friday with Mr. & Mrs. George Bullock of Zurich. Last Monday night Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott visited with Mr. & Mrs. Mervyn Elston of Centralia Mr. & Mrs. David Turner and baby visited Mr. & Mrs. Don Abbott. Mrs. Turner and baby stayed over for a few days. Mr. & Mrs. Russell Thompson spent Sunday with Rev. & Mrs. G. W. Sach, of Gorrie. Mrs. Jack Murray and Dolores and Mrs. Frank Hardy Jnr. called on Miss Lina Abbott, who was a Sunday dinner guest with her cousin, Mrs. Charles Sumner. Mrs. Harold Berry of St. Marys has returned home after spending a few days with Mrs. Jane Somerville. Mrs. Nellie Whelihan spent a few days last week with her sister Miss Margaret Machie, who has been a patient in St, Joieph's Hospital for some time. Mrs. Geo. Bullock spent Saturday with her daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Russell Thompson and family. Mr. & Mrs. Russell Thompson and Jim, Jane and Jean spent Friday with Mr. & Mrs. Geo. Bullock, Dashwood when the latter's mother returned with them to Lucan. Mrs. William Darling who spent the winter in Lieury with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Art Twiddle has returned home. Last Saturday night members of the Lucan Pigeon Club met at the home of Mrs. Frank Hardy Sr. to make arrangements for the first race from Kitchener. Guests of Mrs. Bob Coleman last week included Mrs. Maurice MacDonald, Grand Bend; Mrs. Harry Noels, Forest; Mr. & Mrs Frank Dickens, Ailsa Craig; Mrs W. W. Garrett and Mr. & Mrs. Don McTaggart of London; Jack Explorers play Chinese games Lucan-Clandeboye Explorers held an expedition at Lucan United Church, April 28, with 22 Explorers and two counsellors present. Brenda Scott, Debbie Lynn and Mrs. Keith Kraut led the worship service. After a short discussion on China, Chinese games were played. The girls were then treated to some Chinese dishes — rice, chow mein, sweet and sour sauce and noodles. UNITED Rev. John C. King of Kirkton-Woodham was in charge of Sunday morning service at Lucan United Church, while Rev. W. C. Tupling was taking the Sunday School Anniversary Service at Woodham. Mr. King's sermon was entitled "Go tell what you have seen and heard." Sunday will be Christian Family Sunday and the Sacrament of Infant Baptism will be celebrated Sunday School teacher's meeting was held. Wednesday, April 30. Cliff Culbert would make arrangements for children participating in the service June 8, Flower Sunday. C.G.I.T. Senior members would be responsible for the flowers. The Sunday School will close this year for the 9 Sundays of July and August. Two teachers are required for the Nursery. DIOCESE OF HURON SYNOD The Synod of Huron will be held in Waterloo May 11, 12,13. The Lay delegates are Earl Atkinson, Harvey Hodgins and Wilson Hodgins. AYPA are still actively working in the basement of the Anglican, preparing for their coffee club. Regular Sunday morning service was in the charge of Rev. R. A. Carson. Holy Baptism service was performed for Jeffery Daniel Gwalchmai, son of Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey Daniel Gwalchmai. A rummage sale is being held by the Couples Club, Saturday, May 10 in the Parish Hall. There were displays from 12 Women's Institutes, including Lucan-Clandeboye. Mrs, M. H. Hodgins and Mrs. Frances Saward were present as leader and assistant leader, and Mrs. J. W. Lockyer as guest, assisted with arranging the exhibit. The class of seven ladies had made quite a colorful collection of jewellery, figures, trays, flowers, etc. Lessons had caused much laughter and all had enjoyed the hobby. Both young and older enjoyed a most delightful evening Tuesday when the Lucan Public School presented their spring concert. Emcee for the evening was Kevin Gilmore, and the program commenced with selections by the morning kindergarten's rhythm band under the direction of Mrs. Berdan and Mrs. Garrett. Colorful background and costumes contributed to the enjoyment of singing by a delightful choir, under the title of "The Wizard of Oz" by the children of Mrs. Maxine Allison's Grade 1 Class. Carol Nickles, an afternoon kindc:garten student showed some speedy foot-work, with her tap-dancing number. Steven Wicks as "Father Time" and Tommy Emery as "The New Year Baby" whisked through 1969 with the "Parade of Months", performed by Mrs. Good speakers at WI convention The 21st annual Officers' Conference of the Ontario Women's Institutes, held at the University of Guelph, April 30 to May 1 was attended by Mrs. Saward as delegate from Lucan WI. The theme of the Conference "To live for oneself alone, is not to live at all." was quoted from General Vanier. Most of the time was spent in learning and discussion, but speakers at the 50th Anniversary Banquet of the F.W.I.O. held on April 30, were outstanding. Besides the President and Deans of the University and Dr. Ethel Chapman, Hon. Wm. A. Stewart, Minister of Agriculture for Ontario, spoke on the bill being introduced on using unwanted animals for research, and on the vote which is being proposed for farmers, as to which organization they wish to continue to act for them. Guest speaker at the final session was Dr. Elizabeth Waterston, Associate Professor of English at Guelph, who spoke on "The Role of Women in the Modern Community." The last item was a selection of songs sung by a choir of about 50 voices, of women who had volunteered their services. The music was much enjoyed and Mrs. Irwin Maltby, the choirmistress, is to be congratulated. By MRS. J. The Clandeboye 441 Club met Saturday at the home of Mrs. Wilmer Scott. This was the second meeting for the garden club. President is Betty Scott; vice-president, Nancy Hardy; secretary-treasurer, Susan Hardy. There are six members. PERSONALS The UCW meeting was held Tuesday and a quilt was made for the bale. Mr. & Mrs, N. F. Northmore and son have taken up residence in the former home of Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Lynn, one mile north of Clandeboye. Mr. & Mrs, Pete Henderson, formerly of liderton, have moved to Clandeboye, Mr, & Mrs. Barry Menary and children have taken up residence in the village, too, The Clandegirls met at the United Church for a crokinole party April 25. Winners were Mrs. Wilmer Scott, Jim Scott, Brenda Scott and Harry Bond. Rev, John King, Woodham, took the service at the United Church Sunday with Miss Kay Tops suggest candy recipe Lucan District Streamliner Tops held their regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Gary McKenzie, with full attendance and their leader Mrs. McKenzie in the chair. The weigh-in was satisfactory, although the loss was small and three little pigs, went home to hang on refrigerator doors for a week as a gentle reminder. Mrs. Roland Carty won the mystery prize, and her friends are sorry to hear that she is now in hospital for two weeks. Members were pleased to hear from the Area Supervisor that Mrs. Myrtle Iredale is to be the Area Captain. The prizewinners at the last Muriel Cobleigh's Grade 1 Class. Anyone who had forgotten "The Little Red Hen", were taken back in memory, as the afternoon Kindergarten Class rendered this number. A change of pace was achieved with the tumbling act when Grade 2 students performed somersaults, cartwheels, side-rolls, etc, The teachers were Mrs. Marion Abbott and Mrs. Judith Blair. Costumes were again showy, when Miss Whiting s Grade 2 Class presented, "Charlie, the Runaway Chick," The "Selfish Giant" was performed by Grade 3 pupils under the direction of Mrs. D. Mikita. Many people left the hall humming that old favourite, "The Little White Duck," which Mrs. Judith Blair's Grade 2 class and choir presented. Mrs. Joyce Halliday's Grade 3, wrote and acted their own version of "It's a Big World, Charlie Brown." This must have meant a lot of hard work in preparation. Three excellent voices blended to give the trio of Cheryl Hardy, Debbie Hodgins and Lonnie Sockett singing "A La Valette," much harmony. To end a most enjoyable evening the school choir sang "One Misty, Moisty, Morning," "A Yodelling Song" and "Canada," under the direction of Miss April Whiting and Mr. Alfred Lister. This concert was so popular that many people were unable to get into the hall. Stag finances hockey program Only 400 tickets are being sold for the monster $500 Stag which is sponsored at this time each year to finance the Legion's minor hockey program. The ticket not only gives admission to the event, but also entitles the holder to eight chances on $25 draws and one chance on the grand prize of $500. The Lucan Legion invested $1440 in minor hockey this season and all proceeds from this stag will be directed towards the hockey and other minor sports programs. At Saturday evening's dance, Comrade President Jack Elson has also promised a smelt-fry. H. PATON Worthington at the piano. Rev. W. C, Tupling of Lucan and Clandeboye had charge of the anniversary services at Woodham. Clarence Carter and his son Stephen, were very sick but are feeling much better. Wayne Donaldson who was also on the sick list, is back at school, Mrs. J. H. Paton returned home Saturday from two weeks in Victoria Hospital.
