Middlesex Summary Day of

Papier Mache Course, was held
in St, James Westminster
Anglican Church, London, April
29.
There were displays from 12
Women's Institutes, including
Lucan-Clandeboye. Mrs, M. H.
Hodgins and Mrs. Frances
Saward were present as leader
and assistant leader, and Mrs. J.
W. Lockyer as guest, assisted
with arranging the exhibit.
The class of seven ladies had
made quite a colorful collection
of jewellery, figures, trays,
flowers, etc.
Lessons had caused much
laughter and all had enjoyed the
hobby.
Both young and older
enjoyed a most delightful
evening Tuesday when the
Lucan Public School presented
their spring concert.
Emcee for the evening was
Kevin Gilmore, and the program
commenced with selections by
the morning kindergarten's
rhythm band under the direction
of Mrs. Berdan and Mrs. Garrett.
Colorful background and
costumes contributed to the
enjoyment of singing by a
delightful choir, under the title
of "The Wizard of Oz" by the
children of Mrs. Maxine Allison's
Grade 1 Class.
Carol Nickles, an afternoon
kindc:garten student showed
some speedy foot-work, with her
tap-dancing number.

at WI convention
The 21st annual Officers'
Conference of the Ontario
Women's Institutes, held at the
University of Guelph, April 30
to May 1 was attended by Mrs.
Saward as delegate from Lucan
WI.
The theme of the Conference
"To live for oneself alone, is not
to live at all." was quoted from
General Vanier.
Most of the time was spent in
learning and discussion, but
speakers at the 50th Anniversary
Banquet of the F.W.I.O. held on
April 30, were outstanding.
Besides the President and
Deans of the University and Dr.
Ethel Chapman, Hon. Wm. A.
Stewart, Minister of Agriculture
for Ontario, spoke on the bill
being introduced on using
unwanted animals for research,
and on the vote which is being
proposed for farmers, as to
which organization they wish to
continue to act for them.
Guest speaker at the final
session was Dr. Elizabeth
Waterston, Associate Professor
of English at Guelph, who spoke
on "The Role of Women in the
Modern Community."
The last item was a selection
of songs sung by a choir of
about 50 voices, of women who
had volunteered their services.
The music was much enjoyed
and Mrs. Irwin Maltby, the
choirmistress, is to be
congratulated.

are sorry to hear that she is now
in hospital for two weeks.

from the Area Supervisor that

The prizewinners at the last
Muriel Cobleigh's Grade 1 Class.
Anyone who had forgotten
"The Little Red Hen", were
taken back in memory, as the
afternoon Kindergarten Class
rendered this number.
A change of pace was
achieved with the tumbling act
when Grade 2 students
performed somersaults,
cartwheels, side-rolls, etc, The
teachers were Mrs. Marion
Abbott and Mrs. Judith Blair.
Costumes were again showy,
when Miss Whiting s Grade 2
Class presented, "Charlie, the
Runaway Chick,"
The "Selfish Giant" was
performed by Grade 3 pupils
under the direction of Mrs. D.
Mikita.
Many people left the hall
humming that old favourite,
"The Little White Duck," which
Mrs. Judith Blair's Grade 2 class
and choir presented.
Mrs. Joyce Halliday's Grade
3, wrote and acted their own
version of "It's a Big World,
Charlie Brown." This must have
meant a lot of hard work in
preparation.
Three excellent voices
blended to give the trio of
Cheryl Hardy, Debbie Hodgins
and Lonnie Sockett singing "A
La Valette," much harmony.
To end a most enjoyable
evening the school choir sang
"One Misty, Moisty, Morning,"
"A Yodelling Song" and
"Canada," under the direction
of Miss April Whiting and Mr.
Alfred Lister.
This concert was so popular
that many people were unable to
get into the hall.
