noted Mr. MacNaughton, MPP
for Huron. "I am pleased to see
development in nearby centres
and I anticipate that the
industrial park will encourage
other industries to locate in
neighbouring communities."
"As I have indicated on
previous occasions, our intention
is to allow for a period of
consolidation at Centralia
Industrial Park before Phase 2 of
the development is launched.
During the interim period, I am
hopeful that a number of
prospects will consider
establishing new operations in
the surrounding area," Mr.
MacNaughton stated.

Lawyer claims
town not liable
P. L. Raymond, town
solicitor, advised Monday that in
his opinion council does not
have any liability in regards a bill
for fire department services
which was sent to Usborne
council from St. Marys.
The situation arose from a
fire last summer when a car
burned on Highway 23 near
Woodham.
The Exeter Fire Department
understood that the fire was on
the east side of the road — and
thereby out of their area — and
didn't attend.
St. Marys was then called to
the scene and found the fire was
on the west side and sent
Usborne a bill for $400 for the
call.
Usborne officials felt Exeter
should help pay the bill because
the fire had actually been in the
area covered by the local
brigade.
However, Raymond pointed
out that the area fire agreement
says the town shall incur no
liability for failing to supply
equipment to any fire.
A fire at Ipperwash beach
Sunday was not as serious as
first reports would have it.
Although the fire had gotten
a fair start as it was driven by
the wind, brigades from
Thedford and Forest and a party
of 200 militia from Camp
Ipperwash were called to quell
the blaze.
Not much property damage
was caused by the fire.

Treasurer Charles
MacNaughton announced early
Wednesday afternoon that a
cheque in the amount of
$52,000 was being mailed to the
Big "0" Tile Drain Co. Ltd. of
Hensall from the Ontario
Development Corporation.
The interest free loan granted
under the province's
Equalization of Industrial
Opportunity program
contributes toward the cost of
the $174,500 plastic drain tile
plant, south of Hensall. The
company started production in
September and marketed over
1,000,000 feet of its product
before the end of the year.
Principal use of the plastic
tile, which is being produced in
diameters of up to 4 inches and
in 250-foot lengths, is farm
drainage in Southwestern
Ontario, where drain tile has
been in short supply. However,
the almost unlimited uses for the
product have prompted
enquiries from all across Canada.
