Novice pucksters
win zone crown
BY J. E. BURT
The big news this week is the
Lucan Novice team.
They won the Western
Ontario Zone Championship last
Friday afternoon with a 6.0 win
over St. Clair Beach to win a
best 2 out of 3 in the straight.
They had beaten St. Clair Beach
at Tecumseh in the first game of
the series 7-3.
Jim Benn led Lucan with four
goals. Cecil Nichols scored twice.
Leonard Anderson was goalie
who got the shut-out.
People of Lucan gave the
boys a parade through the
village, complete with a tire
engine and sirens. They were
then, taken to the Legion Hall,
where members of Lucan Legion
treated them to supper.
To top this off they won the
Shamrock round robin play-offs
with Exeter and Lambeth by a
4.0 record to take the "A"
Trophy.
Dorchester won the "B"
Trophy from Stoneybrook and
Ilderton with a 3-1-0 record,
The Lucan Junior Farmers
held their 20th anniversary here
last Saturday night, with a
banquet supper and dance. A
very good crowd was in
attendance and I'm sure they
spent an enjoyable evening.
Hockey is.pretty well finished
for the season and baseball must
be the topic of some
organizations these days,

Mrs. Mary Isabel (Jardine)
Nichol, Granton, died suddenly
in her 89th year at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. Orville
Grosvenor, Lambeth, Sunday,
April 6.
She was the widow of the late
William B. Nichol.
She is survived by two sons,
Francis R. (Frank) Nichol,
Camlachie and W. Lloyd Nichol,
Thorndale; and three daughters,
Mrs. Cecil (Anne) Millson,
London; Mrs. Elmer (Illabelle)
Harlton, Granton; Mrs. Orville
(Winnifred) Grosvener,
Lambeth; one brother, Robert
Roy Jardine, Sombra; 18
grandchildren and 18 great
grandchildren.
The body rested at the C.
Haskett and Son Funeral Home,
Lucan, where the funeral service
was held Tuesday afternoon
with Rev. Susan Seymour,
Granton United Church in
charge. Interment was in
Granton Cemetery.
Pallbearers and flowerbearers
were all grandchildren of the
deceased.
Former Lucanite
married at lodge
The first residents to be
married in the chapel at
Strathmere Lodge were Amy
Arthur and Bill Berryhill.
Mrs. Arthur, who is 80 years
old, and widow of a former
Strathroy reeve, has two sons,
Ernie of Sarnia and Allen of
Strathroy, 17 grandchildren and
37 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Berryhill is 78 and has no
immediate family. He spent
most of his working years
farming in London Township,
retiring to Lucan 20 years ago.
Both have been living at the
Lodge for the past four years,
and found companionship
playing euchre.
A daughter-in-law, Mrs. Allen
Arthur, was matron-of-honour
and the Lodge superintendent
Bernie Jordan was best man. The
bride's son, Allen gave her away.
The couple were provided
with a wedding cake by a
Strathroy Bakery and received a
free honeymoon at a Holiday
Inn out-of-town, as a wedding
gift.
Upon their return the couple
will occupy a large double
bed-sitting room at Strathmere
Lodge.
