"Treflan gives me 100% control of foxtail, lambsquarters and pigweed," says Clifford Wildblood. Treflan is giving beangrowers the weed control they need to help lower labour coats and achieve better profits. Ken Mailoux of Comber, Ontario, found the worst weeds in his soybeans were pigweed and lambsquarters. Now "Treflan is controlling the weeds very well," he says. "This year, because of all the rain, I haven't been able to rotary hoe, and Treflan's really done the job for me." Clifford Wildblood farms a fertile clay loarti that can really grow white beans — and weeds — at. Chatham, Ontario. He's been using Treflan for two years now "with very satisfactory results." Clifford finds it pays to make sure Treflan is properly incorporated in the soil before planting time. And it's simple to do. "I work it in, disc both ways before planting that's all," he says. Durand who has been a leader of the Zurich local of the Farmers' Union made his intentions known early Tuesday morning following a lengthy and stormy meeting of his district in Clinton Monday night. At the Clinton meeting, Mr. Durand said the farm union should be represented on GFO committees to ensure that union views are voiced openly, "We have a chance here for a vote and a chance to build a strong organization. We must realize that there are limitations for us and that in the past we have not had sufficient finances to carry things out," he said. At times it threatened to get out of hand with personal clashes and mud-slinging charges hurled across the floor, Mr, Miller started the meeting off, speaking for more than an hour op the threat farmers face from the "corporate empires" and an explanation on why the provincial executive opposes a scheduled June vote on UFO. During a lengthy question period, Mr. Miller was challenged on many occasions to support statements he had made — in particular, an alleged threat to resign if the provincial board allowed GFO chairman Malcolm Davidson to present his proposal to a union board meeting last month, Mr. Miller denied he threatened to resign and said he had been informed by Mr. Davidson a written copy of the proposal was not available. "Your memory hasn't been very good in the past year," shot back Mrs. Helen Thompson of Brucefield, a former provincial women's director. Gordon Hill of Varna, a former union president, said he saw more than 100 copies of Mr. Davidson's proposal the day before the meeting and charged that Mr. Miller had been told in the middle of the meeting that copies were available. In an attempt to clarify his position on the General Farm Organization Campaign Committee, Malcolm Davidson of 13rucefield wrote a letter to the editor of the London Free Press. Malcolm Davidson, GFO chairman this week clarified his position by replying to several letters written by Ontario farm people, Replying to a suggestion from a Milverton woman that he should resign from the Q.F.A. board of governors, Davidson said, "I can assure you that I did consider such action but felt that it would make little or no difference to the vast majority of farm people, and could have tempted some of accusing me of trying to hide a previous small involvement with the O.F.A." Davidson went on to ask the following questions, "Do we want a strong, well-financed General Farm Organization with official recognition by government? Do we want the marketing boards to have a vote on such a GFO? Do we want the 11,00. and U.D.P.C. to have a vote on such a GFO?"
