Boston and Rangers, played a
tie game in the second game of
the best of three series, This
leaves Boston leading with 3
points on a win and a tie, as
compared to one point for
Rangers.
The final game will be played
Saturday at 10 o'clock. The
Pooley brothers, Perry and Paul
each scored a goal for Rangers.
Boston scorers were Wally
Fydenchuck and Tom Hayter
with one goal each.
In Bantam hockey Toronto
and Montreal played a 2-all tie
to leave their best of seven series
at Montreal 7 points on 2 wins
and 2 ties with Toronto 2 points
on 2 ties and 2 losses. John
Muller scored both goals for
Toronto with Randy Tiernan
and Doug Fairbairn scoring4 for
Montreal.
Carnival ends
HP skating year
The current season of the
Huron Park Figure Skating club
came to a close Wednesday night
with a successful old-fashioned
carnival at the Centralia arena.
A King and Queen were
selected on the basis of greatest
skating achievement during the
year and they were crowned by
the club's skating professional,
Mrs. S. Bell of Hensall.
Receiving the honors were
Mari-Kay Hodgins and Brent
Burling.
The costume prize winners
were as follows: Best dressed,
Gail Blackmore and Paul
Campbell; Comics, clown
Michael Mills and girl on
crutches Judith Brittain;
Specials, Miss Centralia, Brenda
Gaynor and Hobby Horse, Karne
Hart;
Most unusual, Nancy
Underwood as a TV and
Michelle Robichaud, an
envelope; youngest skater,
Donna Watters; largest family on
skates,Robichaud's and
McCart's.
A door prize donated by
Darling's IGA of Exeter was won
by Mrs. W. Underwood.

7-4 and the Halms didn't
threaten seriously thereafter.
Bill Fairbairn with his second
of the night, Scott Burton and
Jim Hayter were the Exeter
marksmen. Fairbairn was the top
point getter with three assists to
go along with his two goals.
The attendance for the
weekday game was the lowest of
the series, 669,

for the Halms,
Pete Lawson fired the only
Exeter goal at 4,41 of the first
period only 32 seconds after
Dave Walkom opened the
scoring for the Hahns. Walkom
and Lyle Harmer each scored
twice for the Hahns while singles
were added by Bob Knack, Gary
Stockie and Tom Pearson.
EXCITING WIN
Bill Fairbairn's second goal of
the night at 4.24 of overtime
gave the Hawks their 5.4 Friday
win over the Hahns. Fairbairn
was in the right place in front of
the net to finish off a play
originated by Scott Burton and
Grant Walker.
The first period was scoreless
and the Hawks enjoyed g two
goal lead for a good portion of
the second session, thanks to
goals from Scott Burton and
Fairbairn.
The Hahns tied the count
before the period closed on
successful shots from Randy
Roth and Daryl Graham. Tom
Pearson put his club one goal up
for a brief moment before
Burton and Larry Laye hit
paydirt for the Hawks to again
take a one-goal lead.
QUICK GOALS DECIDE
In the opening game of the
series in New Hamburg,
Wednesday, three Hahn goals in
less than two minutes in the
third period decided the issue.
Bob Goring and Randy Parsons
scored for the Hawks in the first
period while Gary Stockie, Mark
Bender and Dave Walkom
replied to give the home team a
3.2 first period edge.
Bill Fairbairn scored the final
Exeter marker in the third
period while Bob Knack notched
two scores and Tom Pearson,
Gary Stockie and Lyle Harmer
with singles completed the

The Lucan-Ilderton Jets came
up with what Could be one of
their most important hockey
wins of the season, Sunday as
they edged the Durham Huskies
5.4 in overtime at Centralia's
Huron Park arena.
After losing 8.5 in Durham,
Friday in the first game of the
JACQUES COUSINEAU
best-of-seven group final, the
Jets badly needed a win to even
the series and stay in contention.
The Durham — L-I winner
will meet either Cheltenham or
This Saturday will be the last
houseleague hockey for the
season. The Novice, Mites and
Squirts will play at the same
time as usual. The Pee Wees will
play their last playoff game on
Thursday night at 7 o'clock.
The Flyers and Jets are tied
at one game each and the winner
of Thursday's game will be the
houseleague champion.
Speaking of champions, the
Winners of the houseleague play
will receive their trophies and
crests at the Minor Hockey
Banquet to be held at the Legion
Hall on Friday, May 16.
Contact has been made with a
National Hockey League player
to be guest speaker for the
banquet. Tickets are available at
the arena from coaches and
managers of all-star teams for
$4.00 which includes father and
son or sons as the case may be.
Jets scored a 2 to 1 victory
over the Flyers last Saturday to
even the series at one game each
in the best of three series. Wayne
Regier and Matthew Muller were
the goal scorers for Jets. Noel
Skinner was the Ione marksman
for the Flyers.

The fourth game of the
current playoff series will be
played in Durham Friday night
with the fourth game slated for
the Huron Park arena, Sunday
afternoen at two o'clock. It s
back to Durham for the fifth
game, Tuesday, April 1.
COUSINEAU GETS WINNER
Jacques Cousineau proved to
be the hero in the
Lucan-Ilderton 5.4 overtime win
over Durham Sunday afternoon
at Centralia, The scrappy, hard
working Cousineau was able to
propel the puck into the
Durham net from a scramble at
2.52 of the extra session to give
the Jets enough to post a much
needed win,
Defenceman Doug Galloway,
who played one of his best
games of the season set the play
up for Cousineau.
The Jets were forced to come
from behind continually in a
rough and tough contest. Jim
Aikens opened the scoring for
Durham at 5.55 of the first
period and Galloway was right
there to knot the score less than
a minute later on an unassisted
effort.
Near the midway point of the
period, Gerry Herman of the
Huskies and Dusty Aldis of the
Jets traded goals to keep the
clubs on even terms.
With less than a minute
remaining in the first, Galloway
took a _pass from veteran Don
"Red" Urbshott to put the Jets
in front 3-2.
The Huskies scored the only
two goals of the second period,
from the sticks of Jim Nixon
and Aikens to move ahead 4-3.
Bill Neil completed a
three-way passing effort with
Galloway and Cousineau at 2,56
of the third period to complete
the regular game scoring and set
the stage for the overtime
action,
The Huskies were assessed 15
of the 26 penalties called.
LOSE IN FIRST
The Jets fell behind by a 4-2
count in the first period in
Durham Friday and were never
able to recover sufficiently as
the Huskies took an 8-5
decision.
Ron Ryan scored the first
goal of the game at 4.30 of the
first period to give the Jets a

The Dashwood Bears took
the opening game of the Zurich
and district Rec hockey league
finals on Zurich ice, Monday
night by edging the Hensall
Merchants 7-6 in overtime.
The second game of the
hest-of-seven series will be
played in Zurich tonight,
Thursday at eight o'clock.
Dashwood downed the Zurich
Kings 6-3, Thursday in the
seventh and deciding game to
'earn the right to meet Hensall,
who ousted the Zurich Juveniles
in the other semi-final set.
LOVIE FIRES WINNER
Larry Lovie's goal at 3.25 of
the overtime period gave the
Bears their opening win. Bud
Desjardine with three goals to
his credit was the top Dashwood
goal producer for the night
The balance of Dashwood
scores were fired in single
fashion by Bill Hoffman, Jim
Hoffman and Pat McKeever.
Bob Carlyle and Bill
Chipchase with two goals each
led the Hensall scoring while
Ken Smale and Bill Taylor each
scored on one occasion.
DOUBLE SCORERS
Two goal efforts from Bud
Desjardine and Bill Hoffman
paced the Dashwood scoring
machine in their final semi-final
win over Zurich. Pat McKeever
vend Jim Hayter each picked up

Scoring single goals for
Zurich were Gerald Schantz, Jim
Pfaff and Earl Wagner.

scored to put the game on ice
for the Huskies.
The Jets blew a golden
chance to get closer late in the
second period when they held a
two-man advantage for four
minutes and were unable to hit
paydirt.
