Haist of Ridgeville, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs, A, E. Reilly, Lucan, is a member of the fencing team at Th or ol d-Fonthill Secondary School. The school's team have even found the competition of Brock University to be easy prey, and can find no team of high school students who offer serious competition for them. Recently Brock University staged the Ontario Intercollegiate meet for men, and added an unofficial women's meet. The Fonthill girls placed first and second, Ryerson Polytechnical from Toronto being third. The team placed third, fourth and fifth in an invitational meet with the London Sword Club. Dog catcher — Continued from Front Page not less than five days and may be destroyed or sold after this time at the discretion of the pound keepers. A 24-hour service throughout the year will be provided to pick up any dogs caught by private citizens or the police, as well as providing a similar continuous service to pick up any dogs which may have been injured in accidents. It will cost a dog owner $5 to have his dog released from the pound, and in addition he will have to pay for rabies shots if he can not prove the shots have been administered to the animal in the past two years. Dog owners who have not purchased current tags will also be required to do so before the animal will be released. Other provisions may be included in the bylaw, which is expected to be presented in full to council shortly. Councillor Helen Jermyn questioned whether the dog problem was really a $1,000 problem for Exeter. She said she doubted dogs cause as much damage as some people suggest, although she readily agreed that animals that pose threats to citizens — and especially children — were a serious nuisance. Mayor Jack Delbridge commented that many people complain about the dogs and "people have to be kept happy." "Is it worth $1,000 to keep them happy?" Mrs. Jermyn questioned. Plan three-day radar operation OPP Cpl. C. J. Mitchell advised that the detachment officers will be using radar this weekend and urged drivers to watch their speeds. The radar will be in operation Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Cpl. Mitchell said the locations would be changed and would be set up in various spots in the detachment area during the three-day period. He added that radar would be used periodically during the upcoming months and that the OPP airplane would soon be back in the skies timing motorists in the area. Sights robins early Tuesday Spring was bound to come sooner or later, Jeweller Don Wilson informed the T-A Tuesday morning he had sighted three robins outside his — Continued from Front Page and heard a slight "gurgling in his throat." Others who gathered Regional govit — Continued from Front Page down on spending. Mrs. Jermyn noted that dump facilities may be one such area where two or three municipalities could join forces to reduce overall costs. She also pointed out that it was still too early to tell what benefits may be derived from some of the moves towards centralization — such as the new county educational systems. The debate came to a halt when Councillor Tom MacMillan pointed out that endorsing the Tuckersmith resolution was in fact asking the government to slow down and give the matter of regional government more thought before any more moves are made. "I can concur with that," he said, and the motion to concur passed. Reeve Boyle said he didn't care whether regional government came or not and Mayor Delbridge replied, "you're not a good citizen then." TAKE LIBRARIES Later in the meeting, Reeve Boyle said he had been informed the Ontario government may be planning to take over the operation of the library system. This was just taken over by the county about two years ago. In other business, council: Were advised that an OWRC inspection of the PUC water indicated the system in good shape and that records maintained were in "excellent order." Were told by Councillor Ross Dobson he expected to have detailed information for the next meeting in regards to street signs. Approved requests from the police department for summer clothing purchases. window. Other sure signs of spring noticed Tuesday were convertibles with the tops down; girls wearing shorts; children skipping rope; and for just a few minutes before her mother spied her, a little girl jumping gaily up and down in a mud puddle. There was no apparent injury and most witnesses said they imagined Lagerwerf had suffered a heart attack. Trupei suggested they move Lagerwerf to the back seat of Lagerwerf's car. An ambulance was summoned but Lagerwerf had died. Constable Wright revealed that a routine examination of the dead man by the coroner discovered a small wound in the chest. At this point there was some speculation that a tire stud had penetrated Lagerwerf's chest causing death. The next morning, Warner was in the neighborhood on another call. He noticed something black in the area of the accident from the night before and stopped to retrieve what he thought was his lost glove. It turned out to be Lagerwerf's revolver. Robert George Monument of the Centre of Forensic Science, Toronto, advised the jury that in his expert opinion the Lagerwerf revolver was "very unsafe." Tests performed by Monument had shown that a safety spring was missing from the gun and that the action of the hammer was such that the gun was easily discharged when it was dropped or when it was struck on the hammer, the butt .or the top. Monument demonstrated the faulty weapon to the jury by loading the gun with blanks and striking the gun with a one-pound leather mallet. Monument further testified that the Rohn company produced a cheaper gun than many companies. He said the government imposed no safety standards on imported guns and added that he believed there should be proof houses where all firearms would undergo a rigid testing before being sold to the public. Sgt. Murray Peer, Mount Forest detachment of the OPP told the jury that from the position of the bullet found in Lagerwerf's chest it could be stated the bullet was "on the rise." Dr. J.L. Penistan, pathologist at Stratford General Hospital, said that if the gun had dropped at Lagerwerf s feet and Lagerwerf had stooped "as if to pick something up" the bullet could have entered Lagerwerrs chest at approximately the angle at which it was found. Jurors included Donald Finkbeiner, William Regier, Donald Davey, Dalton Finkbeiner and fonnan Bruce Shapton, all of this locality. $995 $995 $995 $995 $1695 $1995 $2795 $1795 SPRING CLEAN-OUT PI.Ap Varimpowit 1968 PLYMOUTH V-8 auto., Fury III, 4-door sedan, power steering, power brakes, Radio 19,000 miles.
