Opening ceremony was led by Chief Explorer Janice Walker, followed by an oral quiz by Mrs. Don O'Neil, on the film of China, which had been shown at the last Expedition. The girls played three new Chinese games. One of these involved counting to 10 in Chinese which they had to learn. Mrs. Ross McRoberts taught a song. More library books on China were on display and chop-sticks and China tea were brought to add interest, Buttons, wool, and guest-size cakes of soap were donated for the bale. Red and Blue Star girls are making. favourable progress in memorizing "This is My Father's World." Mrs. O'Neil explained how fences of misunderstanding, hate, selfishness and pride, etc. can be built between people. She suggested how to change this. The Jets now play the Durham Huskies for the group championship. The first game is in Durham Friday with the second at Centralia, Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. In the last two games of the Elmira series, Doug Galloway and Ron Ryan were the leading L-I scorers with two goals each. Students exchanged with northern school Newly married couple will live in Ailsa Craig By MRS, J. H, PATON CLANDEBOYE McGillivray Central School Grade 8 enjoyed an exchange of visitors recently. Debbie Millson, Kathryn Coughlin and Marion Cunningham were hostesses to Sudbury children from Friday till Saturday. They will make a return visit to Sudbury in May. NEW YORK TRIP Six Clandeboye area young people, Laura Hodgins, Hazel Simpson, Betty Scott, Carol Trevithick, Mary Angela Glavin and Peter Revington were among the 75 students from the History Club of North Middlesex District High School to enjoy a four day bus trip to New York City during the winter holiday. They enjoyed a guided tour of the United Nations, a broadway show, Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall, the Museum of Natural History and Hayden Planetarium for a showing of "Stories in the Stars.' They also attended the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Fifth Avenue. Wm. McHugh, a resident of Clandeboye and a History teacher at N,M.D.H.S, was among the staff who accompanied the students. 441 Saturday morning the 4.H homemakers from Clandeboye with their leader, Mrs. RIB. Worthington, prepared turkey salad, autumn salad and garlic bread. ST. JAMES The Board of Management met and decided to discontinue the Sunday bulletin for St. James Church. During July the members of UNITED Lucan United Church Women held their regular meeting in the C.E. building last Tuesday with 17 members present. Worship service was led by Mrs. Alec Young and Mrs. W. C. Tupling. Reports from the London Presbyterial were presented in a most interesting manner, Mrs. Tupling, as the Minister's wife, welcomed her friends, Mrs. Alec Young, Mrs. J, W. Lockyer and Mrs. Maurice Cobleigh, to the Manse. The conversation soon turned to their visit to the Presbyterial and each gave her impressions, and something she had learned there. Mrs. Young had attended a workshop on worship services and packing a bale, Mrs. Tupling on Units, Mrs. Lockyer on programmes and leaders, and Mrs. Cobleigh on films. Mrs. Tupling also gave a report on Mrs. Walton Tonge's talk on China and particularly Hong Kong, where she has been working with the people for several years. St. James Church will attend Clandeboye United Church. During August the members of Clandeboye United Church will be invited to attend St. James Church. Sunday, the experimental Holy Communion Service for the Church of England was used. Rev. R. Carson preached on the theme of the necessity of Church people to sell the Church to other people by their word and example. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Harry Murless have returned home from five weeks spent in Key West and Miami. Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Millson had their daughter and her husband, Mr, & Mrs. James Beckett, Kitchener, as visitors Sunday. Their grandson, Donald Millson, London, is spending the holidays with his grandparents, Monday afternoon Colonel Duncan Ross, London, and his sister, Miss Jean Ross, Gravenhurst, formerly of Lucan, visited in the area. Mr. & Mrs. John Simpson entertained recently in honor of their daughter, Rose Mary Simpson and Mr. Simpson 's father, Maurice Simpson, Guests were Paul Simpson, Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Carter, Stephen, Kevin, Joanne and Liza Mary, Mr. & Mrs. Pete Banks and Cindy, Miss Sybil Stevenson, Ailsa Craig. Roger Xirkton, Mrs. Emily Tomes is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Hettrick, Kirkland Lake, spent some time with their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Hornell. A few friends joined the Hornells on the occasion of their 50th wedding Entertain many on 92nd birthday Mrs. Ben Abbott of London, formerly of Main St., Lucan, celebrated her 92nd birthday last Friday at her home, Her daughter, Mrs. Howard Cranston, who is at present making her home with her mother, entertained a number of relatives and neighbours, to honor the occasion. Mrs. Abbott was the former Laura Elliott, daughter of the late Mr, & Mrs. William Elliott. She spent her early life and part of her married life in Lucan. S h e has one sister, Mrs. Charles Thompson, of Thamesford, who was present Friday. Series even in SM league BY J.E. BURT Last Thursday night in the South Middlesex league, Lucan evened their three out of five series with Ailsa Craig at one win each, by virtue of a 5-3 win. In other games Lambeth topped L.M.P. of London to win 3-0 in games. Concrete Pipe won over Esquire to go ahead in their series 2 games to 1. Lambeth is waiting for the winners of this round to go into the finals. In Minor hockey Friday night Dorchester won the Shamrock League (B) Bantam trophy by edging Lucan Bantams 4-3. Our pee-wee team was eliminated from the Goderich tournament by Lucknow, by a score of 7-3. Our Saturday night dances have been discontinued by lack of interest. We will not continue until next year, with a different style of dances. In Shamrock novice play-offs last Saturday it was Lucan 6, Lambeth 5 in the first game of round robin in (A) division. In (B) division it was Dorchester over Ilderton 2-0. Next Saturday its Dorchester vs. Stoneybrook at 1 p.m.; Exeter vs. Lambeth at 2 p.m.; and Stoneybrook vs. Ilderton at 3 p.m. Set hearing date for gas service If approvals are granted by the Ontario Energy Board, the project to extend natural gas service north from Elginfield to Lucan and Centralia will start this summer. A hearing has been set to be held in the Middlesex County Building, London, April 2. Union Gas plan to bury a 4-inch line parallel to Highway 4. Several mishaps injure residents Mrs. Ralph Rummell injured her right thumb very badly in the car door. Janet Goddard fell off the school slide and after a week, is still in St. Joseph's Hospital. Her mother, Mrs. Russell Goddard, expects to get her home this week. Brenda Hodgins, 13 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hodgins, fell off her horse and broke her collar-bone. Her arm is still in a sling. By MRS. HEBER DAVIS Mr. & Mrs. Bob Tindall and girls attended a 15th wedding anniversary for Mr. & Mrs. Charles Tindall at the Dufferin Hotel, Centralia, Sunday. They spent the afternoon at the home of Mr, & Mrs. Ross McFalls where they were joined by other members of the family. A decorated anniversary cake and gifts added to the occasion. PERSONALS Mrs. Lilly McFalls was a Sunday guest with Mr. & Mrs. Jim Barker, Lucan. Mrs. McFalls is observing her 89th birthday this week. anniversary. Plans are being made at Clandeboye United Church for Confirmation April 13, Word was received that Mrs. Violet `Lettie' (Rosser) McKenzie, died in Long Beach, California. She was the widow of the late E,A. McKenzie, Formerly of Denfield and Clandeboye, Mrs. McKenzie was in her 90th year, Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie were the former operators of Clandeboye General Store. They purchased the store from Sam Lamport and sold the store and property in 1919 to the Simpson family. Surviving is one brother, Stewart Rosser, Denfield. Interment was in Long Beach, California. Top honors are shared Two ladies tied for the weekly crown at the meeting, last week, of the Streamliners' Tops. The co - leader Mrs. Gary McKenzie presided and seven members answered the roll-call. Recording of weights was most pleasing as all members showed a loss. Mrs. Art Bates and Mrs. Harry Bond tied for the crown with a loss of seven and a half lbs. each. Mrs. Bates also won her second "Tops" charm for her bracelet. Members are all hoping and looking forward to getting their first charm in the near future, and are very thankful to Mrs. Bates for setting and showing such determination in losing weight. It can be done with a little will power, and a desire to lose weight. New members will be welcome at all meetings. Mrs. Roland Carty won the mystery prize. Dr. & Mrs. S. J. Morrison and family of Detroit were weekend guests of Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Rummell. Brenda, Joanne, and Donna Hodgins spent the weekend with their grandmother, Mrs. 011ie Hodgins of Komoka. Mrs. Cecil Robb returned home Saturday from an extended stay in Florida and is feeling much better. Mr. & Mrs. William Abbott and family of Niagara Falls are spending a few days with Mr. & Mrs. Joe Benn and Mr. & Mrs. Don Abbott. Mr. & Mrs. Norman Hankala and Karen of Westland, Mich., and Mr. & Mrs. Brian Telfer of London, spent last Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Aljoe Culbert. Friday night Mrs. Charles Sovereign entertained the members of the P.O. staff, to honor Mrs. George Hodgins, prior to her retirement. Mrs. Hodgins was presented with a small gift . Saturday at the Mardon Stables, Arva, Ron Crozier was ring master and his daughter Jane was in charge of entries. Mr. Crozier's youngest daughter Susan, on her horse Tambold, won a third prize. Mrs. Thomas Thompson, Ann, and Tommy, London, visited Mrs. Katherine Fischer Monday. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Holden and Michael, visited Mrs. Minnie Douglas, RR 4, Denfield, at the Open House she held, Wednesday, March 12, the occasion being the 96th birthday of her mother and Mrs. Holden's grandmother, Tes Walls. Mrs. William Culbert and Mrs. Mamie Colvert were weekend visitors with Mrs. EldonHodgson, Mr. & Mrs. Aljoe Culbert and Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Hodgson visiting Sunday. Garnet McFalls called on Mrs. Hodgson for a short visit last Monday. Andy Hardy, Gordon Hardy, Bill Haskett and Jim Hearn are holidaying in Florida. Mrs. Earl Young attended a birthday party Sunday at the home of Mrs. Bill Black for Mrs. Pearl Dunseith of St. Marys. Saturday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott last week were Mr. & Mrs. Art Abbott and family. Sunday guests were Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Davis, of London and family. Larry Ditty of Lucan Electronics, has returned home after a week in Toronto, where he took a Business Machine Course. Mrs. Clifford Down, 81, Edmonton, passed away suddenly March 6. Mrs. Down was the former Saidie Abbott, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Abbott, RR 1, Lucan, She attended S.S. No. 2 Biddulph School. and still has many schoolmates in the Lucan district. December 24 Mrs. Down fell on the ice on her back step and broke her hip. She was taken to the Glenrose Hospital, Edmonton, where she made satisfactory recovery. She was ready to come home, when she suddenly passed away. She is survived by one brother Edgar, of Kamloops and one sister, Mrs. Dick (Evelyn) McDonald of Edmonton; and many cousins, among whom are Mrs. Hubert Jones and Mrs. Earl Shapton of Exeter, Cliff Abbott of Lucan, and Mrs. Ben Abbott, Mrs. Charles Sumner, Mrs. Ada Walker and Miss Lina Abbott of London. Mrs. Sam Jackson of Toronto, and Mrs. Charles Sumner of London left Saturday to visit their brother, Rev. Burton Hodgson, of Dearborn Mich., who is hospitalized. All are natives of Clandeboye, with relatives in Lucan, London and Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Ray Fischer and Mrs. Katherine Fischer visited Mrs. Adella Fischer of Dashwood who was celebrating her 96th birthday Sunday. Mrs. Earl Young attended the birthday party for Mrs. B. E. Abbott, London, last week at Mrs. Howard Cranston's home. Miss Marian Prodger of London was a Thursday guest of Mr. & Mrs. A.M. Hedden. Baskets of flowers decorated Brinsley United Church recently when the Rev. H. B. Johnson of Ailsa Craig united in wedlock Katherine Ruth Hodgson and Francis Allan Robinson. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hodgson of Strathroy, and graddaughter of Mrs. Eldon Hodgson, Lucan, The groom is the son of Frank Robinson and the late Mrs. Robinson of Forest. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor-length gown of white satin, with three-quarter-length sleeves, lace trimming along the waist line, running up to the sleeves and partly covering them. A pill-box of matching material held a shoulder-length illusion veil. She carried a bouquet of red roses, white mums and blue iris. Miss Carol Trevithick, Clandeboye, as maid-of-honor wore a floor-length gown of blue peau de soie with an overlay of An ice show was presented by the figure skating classes, sponsored by the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Lucan Branch. The show was arranged by Mrs. William Eves of London, who has been teaching the children during the winter. The theme of the show was Walt Disney and Broadway Presents. "Bambi and the Forest Animals" was led by Miss Debbie Fraser as Bambi and members of the class being the forest animals. Miss Fraser was a guest from the Alvinston Figure Skating Club. Louanne Taylor as the Wizard of Oz, Ann Revington as Alice, Plan coffee party for canvassers Lucan Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society will hold their Annual Coffee Party for all canvassers and team captains, at the home of Mrs. Clarence Haskett Tuesday. Ninety percent said they would like to participate in another experimental service and 75 percent said they like to see a folk mass. Monday the Anglican Youth Movement toured Fanshawe College, E.M. Day, chairman of the Data Processing Department was the guide. Tuesday the A.Y.M. took down the barn of Harold Coursey. They intend to use the lumber to line the wall of their Coffee House. Holy Trinity Ladies Guild sponsored their regular euchre party in the basement of the Church March 11. High score prizes were won by Lynn Emery and Joe Carter; lone hands by Mrs. Hilton Roberts and Hilton Roberts; low score hands, Mrs. Larry Hodgins and Jeff Culbert; lucky chair prize, Tom Emery. Next meeting is March 25.
