IRVIN RADER Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Haugh celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary Sunday with dinner at Hook's Restaurant, London. Present for the occasion were Mr. & Mrs. J. F. Hartman and family, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Haugh and Terry, and Mr. & Mrs. Frank Masseo. LADIES AID The March meeting of Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid was held following the Lenten service Wednesday. This was a business meeting only. President Mrs. Lorne Genttner took charge. Five cards had been sent out and 15 sick calls made. Easter lilies are to be ordered for Palm Sunday. Group I will serve a confirmation dinner on Palm Sunday and group 2 will be in charge of a wedding anniversary April 12. The Altar Guild for March is Mrs. Ervin Devine and Mrs. Ken Keller. The LWML is asking ladies of the congregation to contribute clean worn nylons for missions. UCW MEETING The March meeting of the Dashwood United Church Women was opened with a prayer by the chairlady, Mrs. Gordon Bender. Mrs. Art Haugh led the responsive reading on missions. Mrs. E. R. Guenther favoured with a poem in keeping with the theme and led in prayer. Mrs. Hugh Boyle and Mrs. Ken McCrae played several piano duets. The first part of the China story was presented in the form of a panel discussion with Mrs. Carl Oestreicher as chairlady. Others taking part were Mrs. E. R. Guenther, Mrs. Boyle, Mrs. Art Haugh, Mrs. McCrae and Mrs. Lloyd Beaver. Twenty members answered the roll call with a scripture verse. Mrs. Oestreicher reported that 21 members attended the World Day of Prayer meeting at Grand Bend. East Lilies are to be placed in the church. The ladies entertained at the Bluewater Rest Home Tuesday, March 18. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Wellwood Gill of Grand Bend were Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader and family. Miss Vicki Hartman of London is spending the holidays with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Art Haugh. Mr. & Mrs.-Hilton Ford visited with Auston Billen in Strathroy Sunday. Hilton Ford, Mrs. Vesta Miller, Diane, Vicki, and Lisa went on a train trip to Brantford Tuesday and visited with Mrs. John Brintnell at Jarvis. Rev. & Mrs. Bruce Seebach and family of Hamilton visited with Mrs. Cora Gaiser during the holiday. Mr. & Mrs. Ken Clarke with LA to cater dinner Mrs. Martha Miller, also visited Mr. & Mrs. Oscar Miller and family and Mr. & Mrs. Reiny Miller. Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Adams visited Friday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Rofton Finch in London.. Eight tables were in play at the progressive euchre party at Shipka Community Centre Wednesday evening. Winners were ladies' high, Mrs. Marge Arnold; ladies' low, Mrs. Jessie Rader; men's high, Donald Ratz; men's low, Fred Gibson; most lone hands, Mrs. Stuart Sweitzer. Miss Tammy Preszcator of Crediton is spending a few days with Joan Finkbeiner. Miss Marilyn Musselman of Kitchener is spending some holidays with Esther Snyder. WILLIAM SWEITZER A former reeve and councillor of Stephen Township and a past warden of Huron County, William Henry Sweitzer passed away Saturday in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. The deceased was 82 years old and had resided since his retirement at RR 2 Grand Bend, Mr, Sweitzer had been an Empire Life insurance agent for the past 32 years. For many years he farmed on the 16th concession of Stephen. He was predeceased by two wives, the former Ida Rats and the former Edith Moore. Survivors include his three daughters, Mrs. Glen (Evelyn) Brenner, Grand Bend; Mrs. William (Ida) Scholes, London; Mrs. George (Virginia) Clarke, Tampa, Florida; his two sons, Samuel of Exeter and Wray of Stephen Township; and one sister, Mrs. Martha Smith, Exeter. Funeral service was Wednesday at the T. Harry Hoffman Funeral Home, Dashwood, with Rev. E. Holley, Kitchener, and Rev. Howard Zurbrigg, Crediton, officiating. Interment was in Crediton Cemetery, Pallbearers were Bill Brenner, Leland Desjardine, Milton Sweitzer, Earl Datars, Harvey Ratz and A. P. Schofield. Flowerbearers were Bryan Sweitzer, Ron Sweitzer, Jim Sweitzer, Ross Pickering, Mike Clarke and Garry Branston. ALLEN LLOYD FLETCHER Allen Lloyd Fletcher, 59, Exeter, passed away in Victoria Hospital, Thursday. Survivors include his wife, the former Evelyn Lenore Park; one daughter, Mrs. Barry (Betty) Collins, Guelph; one son, Lloyd of Kirkton; and five grandchildren. An IOOF service was held at the R. C. Dinney Funeral Home Saturday evening. Funeral service was held Monday with Rev. J. C. King, Kirkton in charge. Pallbearers were Bill Parsons, Gerald McFalls, Graham Arthur, Ken Duncan, Clayton Smith and Ross Francis. Flowerbearers were Clarence Hawkins, George Fletcher, Don MacGregor and Roy McCurdy. MRS. RUBY MAIER Mrs. Ruby Maier, 49, Woodstock, formerly of Dashwood, passed away: Saturday at Stratford General Hospital. She was the widow of the late Carl Maier. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Dorothy) Walker, Hepworth; Mrs. Edward (Sheila) Roelofs, London; four sons, William, Brian and James, all of Woodstock; and Keith of Dashwood; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Cutting, Exeter; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Marret) Coornbes, Exeter, and Mrs. Robert (June) Grant, Toronto; and three brothers, Robert, Calvin and Jack, all of Exeter. Funeral service was Tuesday from the T. Harry Hoffman Funeral Home with Rev, E. Steinman officiating. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were members of the Exeter Legion, Branch 167. ROBERT ALVIN CANN Robert Alvin Cann, 62, Osborne Township, passed away Tuesday at his home. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Hopper-Hockey Funeral Home, Exeter, with Rev. Stewart Miner officiating. Interment will be in Exeter Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, the former Isabelle McCullagh; two sons, Jack of Kingston and Raymond of Osborne Township; two daughters, Mrs. Reginald ( Je a n ) Hodgert, Osborne Township and Mrs. Jim (Margaret) Love, RR 3 Parkhill; two brothers, Carman and William, both of Osborne; and two sisters, Mrs. Earl (Reta) Johnston and Mrs. Chester (Pearl) Merkley, both of London.
