McGillivray students
host :class from north
Last Thursday 29 students
from the Grade S classes of
MacLeod School, Sudbury,
arrived in the CNR. station,
London, They were welcomed
by the Grade 8 students of
McGillivray Central School,
From here they were taken to
the home of the McGillivray
students where they were
billeted for the weekend.
Friday they attended classes
in McGillivray Central School. In
the afternoon, Terry McAuley of
the Ausable River Conservation
Authority discussed the Parkhill
Dam project with them and
Freeman Hodgins gave them a
guided tour at the sight.
Friday evening the
McGillivray students entertained
the Sudbury group at a social
evening at the school.
Saturday morning the
combined groups of students
from both schools assembled at.
McGillivray Central School,
boarded the bus driven by
Gordon Kennedy and visited

I had a lovely dinner last
Tuesday with the Chiselhurst
ladies who do the fine quilting.
When I arrived there to take
pictures, the invitation to share
their turkey banquet came as a
pleasant surprise.
At first I hedged because I
sometimes get carried away at
such affairs and eat much more
than is good for me.
I was so glad later when I had
relented. The good cooks at
Chiselhurst had done a fine job
of preparing the food. Would
you believe they served turkey
and all the trimmings, including
huge pans of hot homemade
rolls?
It might have been a pang of
conscience because I was out
enjoying myself when I was
getting paid to be at work.
Whatever it was, I left the
Chiselhurst church in such a rush
that I forgot my purse.
A very hearty thanks to Alvin
Cole, RR 1 Cromarty, and Mrs.
Harold Currie, Hensall. Each had
a definite role to play in my
handbag's return.

We've been giving some
thought lately to etiquette for
teenagers. During the weekend I
had occasion to watch a number
of teenagers in their own
environment with friends of
their own age. It struck me they
need lessons in grooming as
badly as notes on polite
behaviour.
I'm not really against long
hair but I do believe it is the
long tresses which make the kids
seem untidy and in some cases,
downright sloppy!
A young lady can look lovely
if her long hair is shining clean,
well brushed and properly cut
and trimmed so that it does not
hang in her eyes.
A young man with long hair
and sideburns can look neat and
very handsome if the hair is
skillfully thinned and styled so
that it doesn't hang like a mop
and appear as though the head
comes from a family without the
funds to finance a haircut!
Hair is- supposed to be like a
crown. If the "crown" is in a
mess, the whole effect shouts,
"Peasant."

I certainly hope many readers
will .take advantage of our
newest Women's page feature,
the "Over 80 Club."
Details for membership were
printed in last week's
Times-Advocate. The most
important thing to remember is
to call us at the T-A when you
know of someone who is 80
years old or better.
All we require is the name,
address and birthday of the
celebrant. We will print this
information in a special column
BEFORE THE ACTUAL
BIRTHDAY, IF POSSIBLE.
This will allow friends and
relatives some time to send a
card or plan a visit.

I'm still looking for recipes
containing maple syrup. Sugar
bushes are in full Swing about
this time of year and many of
you will have maple syrup to use
in your cooking and baking.
The flavor of maple syrup is
something very difficult to
duplicate exactly. I know there
are recipes for maple syrup pie,
tarts,,cakes and cookies.
Couln't I have some of these,
please?
It is not necessary to use your
names in connection with
VVeber's Twin Willow dairy farm.
Following lunch at Grand
Bend they were taken to Lake
Huron water plant where
personnel from the Ontario's
Water Resources Commission
gave them a guided tour to see in
operation the Lake Huron water
supply system.
On their return to the school
they made a brief stop at E.
Whiting's Poultry Farm where
some of Sudbury students saw
for the first time a live chicken,
After short visits and supper
in homes where they were
billeted the Sudbury students
where returned to the CNR, to
begin their journey home,
McGillivray students are
already anticipating their return
visit to Sudbury May 8 weekend,
It is hoped that this
experiment in living and learning
will prove educationally
worthwhile for both groups of
students. So far it appears to be
quite successful, reports Mrs. Ila
Hamilton.
recipes. It is not even necessary
to send it along with the recipe.
However, it is advisable since
there are times when good cooks
will forget an important
ingredient, such as flour or
sugar. Then it would be vital
that I know whom to telephone
to get that information.
