GB minor clubs • in the running
Minor hockey clubs from
Grand Bend are having a
successful season in the North
Lambton-Middlesex league. With
playoffs well underway, GB
clubs are in the finals of every
division.
A Grand Bend team is
competing in each of the pee
wee, bantam and midget
sections, while two clubs from
the popular summer resort are
battling for the squirt
championship.
The Grand Bend B squirt
team finished in first place and
eliminated Ailsa Craig in straight
games by scores of 5-3 and 4-2.
The A team placed second in the
regular standings and after
dropping the first playoff
contest to Forest by a score of
3-2 came back with wins by
scores of 1-0 and 3-1.
The first game of the league
finals pitting the two Grand
Bend clubs against each other
will be played tonight, Thursday
at eight o'clock at the Thedford
arena.

If the Exeter Legion bantams
are going to continue to the
Ontario Minor Hockey
Association Bantam "B" finals
they must pull off their second
consecutive come-from-behind
effort.
In their third round of
playoff competition, the local
youngsters dropped the first
game to Blenheim and came
roaring back to win two in a
row. They edged Blenheim in
the Kent County town Saturday
night by a score of 9-8 to
advance to the semi-final round
against Delhi.
The first game, Sunday on
Delhi ice saw the Exeter club
take a 7-3 defeat. The second
E
ame will be played at the
xeter arena Saturday night at
seven o'clock.
The Legion bantams made
the first dent on the scoreboard
in the opening game of the latest
series in Delhi Sunday, but they
soon fell behind and were never
able to recover.
Pete Glover fired the first
Exeter marker in the opening
session, Peter Gill scored in the
third period and Glover closed
out the Exeter scoring late in the
final stanza.
A goal from the stick of Pete
Glover with only 18 seconds left
in the game gave the Exeter
Legion bantams their 9-8 win
over Rlenheim Saturday and the
right to advance to the next
round against Delhi.
The game was nip and tuck
all the way. Each team scored
three goals in each of the first
two periods and they were even

BOURNE SCORES THREE
Bill Bourne scored the first
and last goals of the game as the
Hawks downed Elmira 6-3 on
Exeter ice, Friday to send the
series into an eighth game.
Bourne's final and third goal
of the night came on a penalty
shot awarded when Elmira coach
Don Duke persisted in delaying
the game in the last minute of
play by sending six men over the
boards while two of his players
were in the penalty box.
Twice during the game, the
Elmira bench drew two minute
penalties for deliberately
delaying play.
Two unanswered goals by the
Hawks in the second period were
enough to gain the victory and
Bourne's successful penalty shot
put the icing on the cake.
Bourne and Paul Molson of
Elmira traded scores in the first
period and Bill Fairbairn and
Jim Hay ter fired the pucks in
the middle frame that eluded
Way towich in the King's cage.
At 11.10 of the third, Dave
Reid cut the Exeter, lead to a
single goal but Larry Laye
wasted little time in restoring
the margin to a pair with a goal
that proved to be the winner.
Molson added the final Elmira
score before Bourne finished off
the scoring with two goals.
The largest crowd of the
season, 852 was in attendance to
watch the crucial contest.
