Russell Radetitle, who won a
plane trip to Nassau for himself
and Mrs. Radcliffe and a week's
vacation there with all expenses
paid, is home. He reports a most
wonderful time with pictures to
prove it. While away the couple
left their two children with the
children's two grandparents,
Mrs. T, A. Watson and Mrs. J. S.
Radcliffe.
Many young people are
taking advantage of the
snow-covered hill on Concession
4 Biddulph, about three miles
north of Lucan to sleigh-ride, ski
and snowmobile.
Following a four week trip to
sunny California, Mr. & Mrs. W.
W. Garrett held a family
gathering Sunday to report on
their trip.
Mr. & Mrs. Robert Spence
and family spent last Sunday
with Mr. Spence's grandmother,
Mrs. Jane Somerville and Mr. &
Mrs. Norman Schell and family
of Shakespeare, were Saturday
guests.
Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Young
and Mary Margaret were Sunday
evening dinner guests with Mr. &
Mrs. Alan Hutcheson of London.
Mr. & Mrs, Alec Young were
supper guests with Mr. & Mrs.
Don Hodgins and family at
Ilderton, Sunday.
PENTECOSTAL
The Rev. Gordon McDonald
and the congregation were
pleased to have had carpet laid
in the Lucan Pentecostal
Church.

Ladies of the Pentecostal
Women's Auxiliary met at the
home of Mrs. Gordon McDonald
for their regular meeting.
Mrs. McDonald led the
devotions and Mrs. M. Eizenga
led a Bible quiz and gave a
reading on the heart, a symbol
of Valentine.
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. Eizenga and Mrs. Clarence
Frost.
It was decided to change the
meetings to Tuesday afternoon
at 2:30 p.m. in the future,
A NGL ICAN
The Board of Management
met in Carlisle Hall last Monday
with half the members present.
R. A. Carson explained the
principles involved in the
experimental Communion
Liturgies that are to be used on
the third Sunday of each month.
The Communion table (altar)
is to be moved out from the east
wall. The celebrant stands
behind the table to denote the
unity of the Church, and to
represent the table as that of the
Lord standing in the midst of
the congregation. During the
Lenten season the emphasis will
be on renewal and rededication.
The Board set up a number of
committees to look after certain
aspects of the work of the
Church. There is a furnace
committee to inquire into the
purchase of a furnace for the
church and one for the hall.
The Building Committee
consists of Keith Kraul, Larry
Hotson, Allan Scott and Edward
Knoblauch. The Stewardship
Committee consists of Merton
Culbert, Jim Shipley, Brian
Smith and Gary McFalls.
The Finance Committee
consists of Mrs. Cliff Shipley,
Calvin Haskett and Bill Hodgins.
The Public Relations Committee
consists of Mrs. Keith Dickson,
Dwight Henderson, Bill Smith
and Clare Stanley.
CATHOLIC
Ladies of the Catholic
Women's League of St. Patrick's
Church, held their regular
meeting, which had previously
been postponed.
The meeting_ was
A number of Lucan and
district relatives visited Mrs.
Hiram Thompson last Monday at
the Davis Nursing Home, Exeter,
when she celebrated her 88th
birthday.
Mr. & Mrs. Bill Park visited
Mr. & Mrs. Stewart Park last
weekend.
D. A. Ashworth is a patient in
St. Joseph's Hospital. He was
taken there Tuesday of last
week, after a fall in which he
broke his hip.
Mrs. Leonard Smith is home
from a stay in hospital.
Wayne David Hodgins, son of
Mr. & Mrs. Eric Hodgins was
baptised at Holy Trinity Church
February 9, by Rev. R. A.
Carson. Mr. & Mrs. Wilson
Hodgins and Mr. & Mrs. William
Burlingham of Mitchell were
godparents,
Rev. & Mrs. Carson and all
members of the family at church
were visitors for lunch at the
home of Mr, & Mrs. Eric
Hodgins, and Miss Bonny Knott
from Carlingford was a supper
guest.
Dr. T. A. Watson who
recently underwent surgery is
home and able to work part-time
at his office.
Mrs. Eldon Hodgson, of Alice
St, was one of the large crowd
who last Monday, attended a
miscellaneous shower for her
well-attended and the President
Mrs. Cliff O'Neil took the chair.
There was a discussion on the
proposed Variety Show, and it
was decided to hold it about
March 21 in the gymtorium of
St. Patrick's School.
It was reported that the
Physical Fitness classes are well
attended and the participants are
feeling much benefit and
deriving plenty of enjoyment
from the exercises.
Lunch was served and
conversation period enjoyed.
UNITED
The Hi-C held their regular
meeting in the C.E. building of
Lucan United Church, last
Sunday.
There were 15 members
present and Bert Walker took
the chair.
Worship service was led by
Ken Latta.
Ed. Melanson gave a most
interesting talk on the time he
spent in Egypt.
Lunch was served by Bert
Walker, Dave Carpenter and Lori
Grudge.
UCW
Lucan United Church Women
held their regular general
meeting last Tuesday with a
good attendance. President Mrs.
J. W. Lockyer was in the chair,
Members brought items of
baking which were sold during
the meeting.
Worship service, which
opened the meeting, was led by
Mrs. Sheridan Revington with
readings from the Bible by Mrs.
Stewart Park.
It was decided to again
collect hats and accessories for
Spring to donate to the Ontario
Hospital for the pleasure of the
patients.
A chicken barbecue will
replace the usual raspberry
supper owing to the difficulty
which has been experienced in
obtaining berries the last few
years.
The ladies agreed to cater for
a banquet at the Lucan Arena
for South Huron District
Masonic Pastmasters'
Association.
It was arranged that Mrs. J.
W. Lockyer, Mrs. W. C. Tupling,
Mrs. M. A. Cobleigh and Mrs.
Alec Young would attend the
London Presbytery of the
U.C.W.
At the conclusion of business,
lunch was served by Mrs.
Sheridan Revington, Mrs.
Stewart Park and Mrs, John
Park.
granddaughter, Miss Cathy
Hodgson, now .of Strathroy,
whose marriage to Allen
Robinson of Forest, will take
place at the Brinsley United
Church, February 22 where the
community shower was held.
Wesley Phair, who purchased
the home of the late Mrs. H. S.
Stanley, has had to return to
London when Mrs. Phair was
killed in a motor accident. Mr.
Phair was also seriously injured
but is at last back to work,
though still lame.
Jack Young of Mitchell called
on his mother, Mrs. Herman
Young last Monday.
Many enjoying
euchre parties
Holy Trinity Ladies' Guild
held the regular euchre party in
the basement of the Church last
Tuesday with eight tables in
play.
High score prizes were won
by Mrs. Joe Carter and Ronnie
Hodgins; lone hands by Mrs.
Gordon Atkinson and Thomas
Emery; and low scores by Mrs.
Dwight Henderson and Mrs.
Helen Carling, using a man's
card.
Lucky chair prize went to
William Mathers.
Next party will be held
February 25.
MEDWAY EUCHRE
Members of Medway Euchre
Club met at the home of
Clarence Lewis last Monday for
their regular party with 14
present,
High score prizes were won
by Mrs. Carmen Hodgins, Austin
Hobbs and Carman Hodgins;
lone hands, Mrs. Austin Hobbs;
and low scores, Mrs. Cliff
McRoberts and Earl Middleton.
Next party will be February
24 at the home of Cliff
McRoberts.
Auxiliary girls
serve breakfast
Members of the Ladies'
Auxiliary of the Lucan Branch
of the Royal Canadian Legion
served a businessman's breakfast
to about 30 men last Tuesday
morning, sponsored by Shur
Sweet Feeds.
This was something new for
the ladies, and the men enjoyed
their bacon and eggs in different
surroundings.
CANCER SOCIETY
Lucan Branch of the
canvassing committee of the
Canadian Cancer Society, met
last Wednesday at the home of
Mrs. M. H. Hodgins, to review
plans for campaigning in 1969.
It was decided to commence
canvassing April 14 and to
continue for two weeks until
April 25.
Ilderton man
passes away
Cecil G. Walls of Ilderton
died Thursday, February 13 at
St. Joseph's Hospital.
He is survived by his wife,
Gertrude (Shipley) Walls; a
daughter Mrs. Randall (Reta)
Johnstone of Denfield; brothers,
Telford Walls, of Denfield and
Earl M. Walls, London; and a
sister Mrs. A. E. (Irene) Menzies,
London.
Service was conducted by
Rev. G. C. Johnson and Rev. A.
E. Menzies at the C. Haskett and
Son Funeral Home,Lucan, with
interment in t. George's
Cemetery, London Township.
Pallbearers were BM Wails,
Beecher Menzies, Doug Walls,
Jim Shipley, Don Medd, and Bev
Shipley, Flower bearers were
Geo. Thompson, John Walls,
Ken Knowles, Bob Drennan and
Harold Walls.
Couples dance
is successful
The Valentine Dance
sponsored by the Couples' Club
of the Lucan United Church was
a tremendous success,
The hall was gaily decorated
by Mrs, E. G. Ross and Mrs.
Alden Walker, with help from
Mrs. W. C. Tupling.
There was an attendance of
about 250 people. The orchestra
was an old-time type, playing for
square dancing, waltzing, etc.
The proceeds from this Dance
will be used toward the purchase
of folding doors for the C.E.
building of Lucan United
Church.
Mr, & Mrs. Heber Davis were
Valentine Day guests of the
latter's aunt, Mrs. Bob Coleman,
Bob Robinson was most
fortunate to escape serious
injury last Tuesday evening
when his tractor and trailer ran
off the icy road on Highway
401.
Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Hodgson
and George were Sunday guests
of Mrs. Eldon Hodgson.
Dr, & Mrs, S. J. Morrison and
family spent the weekend with
Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Rummell.
WINNING SPEAKER —Joe
Mitchell won the Royal
Canadian Public Speaking
Contest at Kingsville last
Saturday. He will now go on to
compete for Western Ontario.
This contest will be at
Woodstock, March I .
Five little pigs
had to go home
The Lucan and District TOPS
club held their regular meeting
at the home of Mrs. Gary
McKenzie, with eight members
to weigh-in and answer roll call.
Recording of weights showed
a big improvement from last
week, but still five little pigs
went home.
Two ladies tied for the Queen
of the week title. They were
Mrs. A. Koricina and Mrs. Art
Bates.
Mrs. R. Carty won the
mystery prize.
Explorer girls
collect stamps
Lucan-Clandeboye Explorers
met in the C.E. building of the
Lucan United Church with 30
Explorers and four Counsellors
in attendance,
Chief Explorer Janice Walker
led the opening ceremony.
Mrs. William Froats
conducted a quiz on China and
talked of China's history.
Mrs. Ross McRoberts
provided music for the singing.
"Did you know?" facts on
China were presented by Donna
Leitch, Lynn Emery and Lori
Wilson.
Worship service was
conducted by Ruth Ann
Atkinson, June Donaldson and
Mrs. Keith Kraul.
Four more proverbs were
discussed, for example, "If you
want dinner, don't insult the
cook.
There were some used stamps
brought in for the Bible Society,
and also some buttons and pins
for the bale.
Each leader took a group of
girls to do further research on

junior farmers
plan for dance
The regular meeting of Lucan
Junior Farmers was held last
Tuesday with about 30 members
present. Allan Robertson took
the chair,
Those present were asked to
each try to take a new member
to the next meeting.
Final arrangements were
made for the meeting and dance,
to be held Friday night at the
Legion Hall.
The meeting last Friday was
well attended with
approximately 60 Jr nior
Farmers being present. The chair
was taken by Ron Abbott.
Business session time was
taken up by campaigning and
voting for officers and executive.
There were skits and talks, with
posters around the walls, to back
up the campaigning.
Voting will be continued at
the county banquet February 21
at Thorndale.

Last Friday night two more
of Lucan's minor hockey teams
were put off the play-off trail by
Glencoe,
The pee wees lost 2-1 to drop
their best 2 out of 3 series two
games to one, and the midgets
lost 3-1 to be side-lined two
games to one.
In novice play Lucan
side-lined Wilton Grove in a two
game total goal series 13-4. Now
they meet with Glencoe and
Belmont in a round robin
knockout series.
As at time of writing I don't
know when this series will get
under way.

Members of Irving Lodge No.
154, Lucan Branch, held their
regular meeting at the Masonic
Hall, last Thursday.
Harold Hodgins, Main Street,
Lucan, proudly received his 50
year Masonic gold lapel button.
There were a number of
visitors from other Lodges
present for this special occasion.
Lions watch
airflight film
Lucan and district Lions Club
held the regular meeting in the
basement of Holy Trinity
Church last Monday with 70
percent attendance.
Len Knight of RR 3 Granton
was introduced as a new
Member,
A film was presented, from
the National Film Board,
"Helicopter — Canada." This
outstanding film was made in
1968, and was taken entirely
from a helicopter, travelling
from Atlantic to Pacific and
shows the main focal points of
interest of Canada. Scenes of
wildlife, the prairies, industries,
cities and outstanding scenery
were shown.
Plans were discussed for the
annual hockey night, probably
in March.
An appeal had been received
from CNIB for pledges for the
donation of eyes.
starting again with a new band
supplying the music. It is the
San-an-Tones with Country and
Western music. Hope to see you
dance lovers out again.
In novice league play last
Saturday it was a 1-1 tie
between Stoneybrook and
Tillsonburg in an exhibition
game.
Exeter beat Ilderton 5.1 and
Lucan downed Dorchester 5-2.

Valentine dance
Members of Lucan Legion
sponsored e Valentine Ball in the
Legion Hall, Saturday.
The hall was gaily decorated
by Jack Elson and his daughters.
Entertainment was in western
style and included two huge
kettles of baked beans, provided
by Mrs. Art Bates.
The evening was a great
success and 170 people were
present.
Sunny days and clear, cold
nights are the best combination
for maple sap flow.
