Tuesday morning, February
4, Zion United Church hosted
the meeting of the South Huron
Ministerial Association. Rev.
Harmen Heeg, Exeter, presented
a thought-provoking review of
the book "The Biblical Flood
and the Ice Epoch."
Last Wednesday Mrs. Ervin
Ratz, Mrs. Cordon Ratz, Mrs. Ed
Finkbeiner, Mrs. Howard
Zurbrigg and Mrs, Roy Ratz
attended the Huron-Perth
Presbytery UCW Rally at
Mitchell. Rev. Morley Clark was
speaker at the morning session,
Mrs. B.C. Neice in the afternoon
and the emphasis was on
stewardship and the vitality of
the church.
Last Wednesday evening the
UCW of Zion United Church
catered for the Crop and Soil
banquet in the Community Hall.
Mrs. Ross Krueger's committee
was in charge of arrangements.
Thirty-seven members were
served.
WILLIAM ARTHUR HODGE
The community was shocked
to learn of the sudden death
Sunday of William Arthur Hodge
at his home, Main Street West.
Mr. Hodge, with his family,
moved to Crediton from Ripley
about 11 years ago and operated
a welding and repair shop.
He is survived by his wife,
Eleanor McLeod, and seven
children, Mrs. John (Ruth)
Miller of Crediton; Sharon of
Kitchener; Dianne, Joan, Karen,
William and Bruce at home; his
mother, Mrs. Ida Fourot, Salmo,
B.C.; two sisters, a brother and
one grandchild.
He was in his 47th year.
Funeral was held Wednesday
from the T. Harry Hoffman
Funeral Home with interment in
the Crediton Cemetery. Rev.
Douglas Warren officiated.
Pallbearers were Art Attfield,
Earl Lippert, Cliff Grasdahl,
Jerry Schenk, Morris Beaver and
Gordon Scott.

Zurbrigg in charge of the
programme.
The hour was arranged to give
information on Nigeria,
information provided by Rev.
and Mrs. Alfred Bohr, Sudan
United missionaries and
seminary friends of Rev. and
Mrs. Zurbrigg.
The three women were in
costume, cut-outs of an African
village decorated the table, and
there was a chart depicting the
work done by the Bohrs in the
three fields 4 f evangelism,
teaching and medical work.
Miss Swartz sang a solo and
Rev, Zurbrigg played a number
on the piano. Mrs. G.E. Wenzel
in her spiritual life message
asked for concern for the
underprivileged.
Mrs. Zurbrigg, president, took
charge of the business session.
Members were reminded of
World Day of Prayer on March
7, and to bring their used stamps
to the next meeting of the UCW.

Miss Doris Swartz, Mrs. Ray
Morlock and Mrs. Clare Swartz,

Dinney, is a patient at South
Huron Hospital.
Mrs, Wesley Heywood
received word of the tragic death
of her aunt and uncle in a house
fire at Bancroft.
Mr. & Mrs. Ray Morlock were
in Beamsville Sunday to attend
the christening ceremony of
their grandson, Larry McLennan.

The Grand Bend 4-H girls met
at the home of Mrs. Wm.
Schlegel, Friday with 12 girls
present.
Theme for this project is
"Meat in Menu".
The girls decided to call this
club the "Grand Bend
Tenderizers".
Officers were elected. They
are president, Susan Sturdevant;
secretary, Debra Crown;
treasurer, Susan Schlegel; press,
Jamie Kneale; leaders, Mrs. Win,
Schlegel and Mrs. H. Harms.

The monthly meeting of St.
John's-by-the-Lake ACW was
held in the Parish Hall, with Mrs.
J. Mennel, the president in the
chair.
A letter was read from Mr.
and Mrs. Purvis who have settled
in Alberta. Mr. Purvis was with
Found Bros. and was the
recipient of a gift from the ACW
and the church before leaving
for the west,
The ladies plan to make new
altar linens for the Chancel
Guild.

euchre until autumn were Mrs.

introduced by Mrs. Alan Parker.
