There was also discussion on the state of the organ. A committee was appointed to obtain advice and estimates on repairs to the present pipe organ, and also to arrange for demonstrations of various types of electric organs. Russell Thompson, Mrs. Harvey Langford and Miss Reta Chown were elected for this committee. Church news Rev. W. C. Tupling was in charge of the Sunday morning service at Lucan United Church. His sermon was entitled "What is Faith?" The junior choir sang, Mrs. Harvey Langford accompanying on the piano and Norman Steeper conducting. AYM The AYM met last Monday and decided to go skating Saturday, February 15. The Board of Management of Holy Trinity Church met Monday in the Parish Hall. Future Church programming in connection with Renewal '69 was discussed. Sunday, the Sunday School will meet at 9:45 a.m. The attendance contest is developing with the beginners in the lead. The Juniors are close behind. Mrs. M. Culbert is the beginner teacher and Mrs. R. A. Carson is the junior teacher. At 11:00 a.m. 'The Liturgy' as authorized for permissive use under Canon 23-8 of the Episcopol Church in Scotland will be used. Every third Sunday a different experimental Holy Communion service will be conducted in the Parish. At this service, Etienne Bowleg, a native of Nassau in the Bahama Islands will preach the sermon. Last year Rev. and Mrs. Carson had Mr. Bowleg in Forest,St. Patricks' Day. All are invited to the service. February 19 is Ash Wednesday. The children of the parish are asked to be present at 3:35 p.m. for a children's lenten service. At 7:30 p.m. a Penitential service will be held in Holy Trinity Church. Holy Trinity Anglican Youth Movement met in the Parish Hall last Monday. There were 10 members present, with Ed Knoblauch as chairman. A trip to Fanshawe College is being planned for March. CANADIAN BIBLE SOCIETY Annual meeting of Western Ontario District and London Branch of the Canadian Bible Society will take place February 17 in St. Matthews Anglican Church Hall, Dundas Street. The speaker will be the Rev, Russell Self who spent 18 years in India. He is now Distribution Secretary for the Bible Society in Asia. A group from each congregation and area of Western Ontario is hoped for. Annual meeting held for United Church Lucan United Church Annual General meeting was held Wednesday of last week in the C.E. building. Rev. W. C. Tupling took the chair and Mrs. M. H. Hodgins acted as secretary. There were more than 45 members present. Reports were read by representatives of each of the Church groups. Members of CGIT have started a fund to buy drapes for the ground floor of the C.E. building. A second folding-door for the building is being purchased by the couples' club. Mr. Tupling reminded the members of Dr. McClure's suggestion of contributing one day's pay for needy people throughout the world, and envelopes and leaflets were distributed for this project. George Carpenter, with Don Euchre party has small gathering Only 12 of the 20 members of the Medway Euchre Club were able to attend the Medway euchre party at the home of Mr. ,and Mrs. Wilbert Stanley last Monday. High score winners were Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Hodgins; lone hands, Mrs. Otto Daley and Mr. Fred Featherstone; low score, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sumner. The next game will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lewis of Lucan. Junior farmers enjoy hay ride Junior Farmers organized a hay ride and had a wonderful turn out of 50. At first there was no hay but the first farm they passed, they were successful in getting enough to make things a bit warmer and a little more comfortable, They wore out for nearly two hours, and were very grateful for hot chocolate, hot dogs and other foods. When their energy was renewed they danced to record music. CROWNED QUEEN Miss Marie Lobsinger, daughter of Dr. & Mrs. L. W. Lobsinger (nee Jean Revington) competing against five princesses was crowed 'Queen' of the 1969 graduating class at St, Marys' Hospital, Kitchener, last Friday, and was most surprised to see her parents at the door following the ceremony. Explorer girls plan collections - • Ltican-Clandeboye Explorers met in the C.E. building of the Lucan United Church, Monday of last week with 27 Explorers and four counsellors in attendance. As the girls arrived they began a quiz on China. Thirteen questions were posted around the walls. Several girls brought books on China. "Did you know?" facts were given by Patti Fisher, Kathy and Carolyn Hopps. Three more Chinese proverbs were added to the display. The next two expeditions will feature a film "In Land of China." Explorers joined the CGIT to hear Miss Bissell of Zambia, and to see her pictures. "Thank you" cards were read from people who had received jam and bath salts from the Explorers at Christmas time. Stamps were still coming in for the Bible Society and the girls were asked to collect buttons, needles, thread, pins and wool for the Spring bale. The group has been invited to attend the 11 a.ni. service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, February 23, in uniform. CGIT members plan programs Lucan•Clandeboye CGIT executive met before the regular meeting to plan programs for future meetings. It was decided to have a mother and daughter banquet May 16, separate from the Explorers this year. At the business session of the regular meeting Monday of last week, the senior group voted to graduate at the age of 15. This means that 13 girls will graduate in June. All CGIT members will be attending the Holy Trinity Anglican Church morning service February 23. They will meet in the Anglican Church basement, in uniform, at 10:45 a.m. Miss Muriel Bissell showed slides of Zambia and talked about her work there. Worship Service was conducted by Kim English and Brenda Hodgins. Two leaders, Mrs. R. B. Worthington and Mrs. M. H. Hodgins accompanied seven of the members to First Baptist Church in London for a CGIT Indoor Camp Rally, where they conducted an Indian Camp-Fire Vesper Service. New co-leader named for Tops Ladies of the Lucan and district "Tops" Club held their regular meeting last Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Gary McKenzie. Their leader, Mrs. Don McRobert, presided. Eight members answered the roll call, and one new member was enrolled, Mrs. Gary McKenzie was elected new co-leader. Weight-recording was not very encouraging as five little pigs had to be taken home to hang on refrigerator doors as reminders. Mrs. Charles McRobert was queen for . the week, and also won the mystery prize. Pages from the New Leader and chapter guide book were read, each member reading in turn, and many good points were discussed. Exercises were renewed. Each member will act as instructor for a month, Mrs. Alfred Williams taking the first month. The exercises learned are to be practised daily at home. By GORDON MORLEY The February meeting of the UCW was held at the home of Mrs George Prest. Group 3 leader Mrs. Arnold Wasnidge opened the meeting with a devotional reading followed by scriptures read by Mrs. George Prest. Kathleen Morley gave a reading, Mrs. Harvey Steeper read a poem, Mrs, Cecil Hartle presented a reading followed by Mrs. Marjorie Steeper who had a poem. Mrs. Reta Allison then gave a chapter of the study book on China. Mrs. William Fenton then opened the business part of the meeting. Fourteen members answered the roll call followed by the correspondence. Mrs. Earl Lewis has a quilt top ready and Mrs. Reta Allison consented to shave it quilted at her home, Legion slate is installed Installation of officers of the Lucan Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, took place last Saturday, and was performed by District Commander, Sid. Daley, Lucan, Post District Commander, Roy Warren of Glencoe and Dwight, Ball, past Zone Commander. Harold Bond was acting sergeant-at-arms for this ceremony. The officers installed were President Jack Elson; past president Keith Dickson; secretary, Pat Grudge; treasurer, Keith Dickson; first vice-president Carl Stuckless; second vice-president, Art Bates; Sergeant-at-arms Harold Butler; and executive J. W. Smith, Dave Inson and Charles Scholley. Mrs. A. E. Reilly was installed as president of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary by Mrs. Pat Crudge. Don Abbott who underwent surgery is back to work at the Lucan Supertest Service Station, but will have to take it easy for some time to come. Mr, & Mrs. George Stanley and family of Hanover were weekend guests of Mr. & Mrs. Wilbert Stanley. Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Grose of Tillsonburg called on Miss Lina Abbott at the McCormick Home last Saturday and took her out to a chicken dinner at the Knotty Pine Inn. Mrs. Keith Dickson last Friday visited her mother-in-law Mrs. Letitia Dickson, who is recuperating from a cataract operation in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. & Mrs. Sheridan Revington held a family dinner last Sunday to celebrate their son Gary's birthday. Among the guests was Miss Ann George. Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Greenlee of Exeter and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Atkinson of Lucan were Friday dinner guests of Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott. Mrs. Frank Hardy has returned home after a five day visit with her daughter, Mrs. John Knight and family of ICintore. While there Mrs. Knight had a birthday party for her two year old daughter, Carol Ann. Mr. & Mrs. David Turner of Varna spent last Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Don Abbott. Erie Haskett, Miss Doris Weir and Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott were Thursday guests of Mr. & Mrs. Omar Burnett of RR 2, Denfield. Miss Violet Saunders of Hamilton and Miss Ruth Patterson of London were Wednesday guests of Mrs. Alma Price. Mrs. Charles Thompson of Thamesford was a weekend guest of Mrs. & Ben Abbott and Mr. & Mrs. Howard Cranston. M r. & Mrs. Russell Thompson, Jean and Jane spent Thursday with the latter's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Geo. Bullock, Zurich. Reilly is chairman, Arrangements are being made for a pop concert at the arena in March. This will feature figure-skating and classes have been well-attended, and the teacher, Mrs. Cathy Eves is very efficient. Mrs. Lloyd Mason reported that money donated for the March of Dimes is coming in well, but has not all been collected yet. The first mystery prize was won by Mrs. Les Kennedy and the second by Mrs. Ron Finlayson. Mrs. Eldon Hodgson who has been on the sick list is recuperating at her home. By MRS. At time of writing, Mrs. Rachel Bell of Huronview, is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. The Elimville-Thames Road Youth Fellowship Club held their meeting Sunday evening. Routly. 4-H GIRLS The Elimville I 4-H Homemaking Club held the first meeting of the new club "Meat on the Menu” at the home of their leader, Mrs. Lorne Johns. Officers elected were president Janice Morley; secretary Heather Davis; vice-president Linda Hem; and press reporter Brenda Skinner. Mrs. Johns gave an outline of the new project with notes on meat and its value as food, methods of cooking and varieties of meats. N. L. E, BURT In Minor Hockey last Friday night it was .0.1VI.H.A. play-offs in pee-wee, bantam and midget. This is the first round with Loon and Glencoe duelling it out, in a hest 2 out of 3 round. In pee wee it was Lucan. 3 Glencoe 0 in the second game of the series, Glencoe winning the first game last Wednesday night at Glencoe 2-1 in overtime. In bantam it was Glencoe. 7 Lucan 2. This eliminates the bantams from the play-offs as Glencoe won the first game 10.1, Biddulph OK gas pipeline Similar to most other area municipalities, Biddulph Township has granted permission for the Union Gas Company to lay pipeline in the township. Biddulph also followed the lead of other municipalities in concurring with a resolution from the special committee on drainage from Middlesex, requesting that the ARDA subsidy on municipal drains be continued to include petitions signed up to December 20, 1968. In other business, council: Raised the price of dog tags to $2.75 for male dogs and $4.75 for female dogs. Instructed the clerk to advertise for tenders to supply, crush and haul 10,000 cubic yards of gravel, and to tender for spraying cattle in Biddulph for warble fly control. Appointed John Dickins as warble fly inspector. Public speakers continue in zone Winners in the Lucan area of the Legion Public Speaking contest were at Mt. Brydges, last Friday evening to continue on the Zone level. First prize winner was Joe Mitchell who goes on to Kingsville, to compete on the District level. The District, in this instance, is from Windsor to Woodstock. 4-H meeting First 4-H meeting of the course for Lucan and Clandeboye was held in Lucan Arena with 13 Clandeboye and 21 Lucan members present. Mrs. R. B. Worthington and Mrs. Lorne Mohr taught the girls to make luick burgers, a relish 'tray and caramel oatmeal Squares. The girls were most enthusiastic and enjoyed the food they had prepared. In midget it was Lucan 5 Glencoe 1. This evens this series. at one game each as Glen me won the first game 7.3 at home. The third games of this series are here at the Centre Friday, pee wee at 8 p.m. and midget 41, 9. p.m. Lucan has taken over first place in Shamrock Novice League as Lambeth was held to a 3-3 tie by Exeter while Lucan won over ilderton 741, In the third game it was Dorchester 3 Stoneybrook 1 hereat the Centre last Saturday afternoon. Lucan Teen Town had a very successful dance here last Friday night with a very good crowd in attendance. Music was supplied by the Vibrations, from 0 lencoe. We are not holding Saturday night dances at present as the Ca n adian Playboys' band resigned two weeks ago.
