wrestling team to finish in a tie
for first place with St. Marys
Collegiate.
The local grapplers walloped
Goderich 45-21 at the local
school gym, Wednesday and
edged Wingham 33-29 in the
northern town, Friday
afternoon.
The league finals will be held
at St. Marys this Saturday
morning with activities starting
at 11 o'clock in the morning.
The local squad has shown great
improvement since the start of
the season and could bring the
first H-P wrestling crown to
South Huron District High
School.

WIN SOME BY DEFAULT
On their home floor,
Wednesday, four victories by
way of default helped the South
Huron wrestlers gain a 45.21 win
over Goderich.
Again, five local wins were
accomplished by pinning the

Charrette, Bob Smith Morley
Eagleson, Bob Moore and Dan
Shoebottom turning the trick.
South Huron winners by
default were Jim Regier, Doug
Geoffrey, Jim Hayter and Don
Jones. Charrette took the honors
as the best wrestler of the day
and Morley Eagleson disposed of
his Goderich opponent in the
quickest time, only 47 seconds.

Dashwood Bears

With only two games
remaining in the regular schedule,
the Dashwood Bears have
clinched first place in the Zurich
and district Etec hockey league.
The Bears have a season total
of 16 points and the Hensall
Merchants in second spot have
11 points. The Zurich Kings
hold down third position with
seven points and the Zurich
juveniles are one point farther
back in the basement.
In tonight's regular double
header at the Zurich arena,
Hensall and the Zurich Kings
meet at seven o'clock with
Dashwood and the Zurich
Juveniles hooking up in the
nightcap at nine o'clock.
Thursday, the Bears walloped
the Zurich Kings 11-1 to sew up
first place. Jim Frayter, BOb
Hoffman and 13111 Schade each
score two goals to lead the
Dashwood scoring attack
The balance of markers were
contributed in single fashion by
Stan Lovie, Jim Hoffman, JOe
Regier, Pat MeXeever and Larry
Lovie.
Radar spelled backwards is

John Vriese was the only
Elayer on the Aces able to beat
ugene Clover in goal for Jets.
The Hawks defeated the first
place Flyers 4 to 1 in a rough
and tumble game. Brian Taylor
scored the hat trick with a single
goal added by. Geary Penhale,
Noel Skinner was the lone
marksman for the Flyers.
Boston defeated Rangers in a
close game by a score of 2 to 0.
Brian Clarke and Wally
Fyclenchuck each scored a goal
for Boston.
Montreal won their second
game in a row defeating Toronto
5 to 4. After some player
changes a few weeks ago these
two teams are quite evenly
matched and are playing good
hockey.
Randy Tiernan was top scorer
with 2 goals. Singles were added
by Doug Ferguson, Ron Mostery
and Wayne Brintnell for
Montreal, For Toronto Larry
Gibson, Paul Glavin, Bill
VanBergen, John Meedler each
scored a goal.

the Ontario Hockey Association
Intermediate "B ' ,grouping,
Tuesday night.
The Jets 'with four goals in the
last five .minutes of play were
able to down the Port; Elgin
Sunocos 10.8 at the Iluron Park
arena while Seaforth Beavers
edged the Durham Huskies 7-6.
The .Lacari-liderton club now
has 34 points,. Durham has 32
WIN ON LAST PIN
The meet in Wingham, Friday
was extremely close with Dan
Shoebottom's win by the way of
a pin in the last match of the
day tipping the verdict to the
South Huron side of the ledger
by a 33-29 count.
Other South Huron
performers able to pin their
Wingham opposition were
Gerard Charrette, Bill Cameron,
Jim Regier, Bob Smith and Bob
Moore. The only other South
Huron win was accomplished by
Tom Prout in the 141-pound
class, taking a 2-0 decision.
In exhibition action, victories
for the local school were chaled
up by Larry Ferguson, Lorne
Miller and Ron Hartman. Bob
Smith achieved the fastest pin of

Hearn put the L-I boys ahead
again at 3.51 of the second
session from a scramble around
the Durham net.
MurrayStephens again tied the
count for Durham before the
period ended and in the third,
Don Vaughan and George
Aitken tallied for the Huskies.
The winning goal was scored
with a L-t performer in the
penalty box and the insurance
marker was scored on a
breakaway with the Jets pressing
for the tying goal.
VETERAN GETS WINNER
Veteran defenceman Don
Urbshott scored what proved to
be the winning goal in the 6.4
win over Port Elgin, Wednesday.
With the score all tied at 4.4 and
less than eight minutes to go in
the game, Urbshott was set loose

Pee Wee house league before
play-offs start. The coaches are
asked to have all players on hand
and ready for the remaining

The Jets over- powered the
Aces by a score of '7 to 1, The
Jets are the most improved
hockey team in the league
having won 7 of their last 8
games.

The Exeter bantams were the
only local minor hockey club
able to survive the first round of
Ontario Minor Hockey
Association play against similar
clubs from St. Marys.
The bantams, sponsored by
the Exeter Legion had little
trouble in disposing of their
• Stone Town opposition, taking
both games by way of shut-outs.
On St. Marys ice, Wednesday,
the Legion boys racked up a 9.0
score and back at the Exeter
arena, Friday the score was 7-0
for the home club.
The victorious bantams
• coached by Bill Milian and
Gary Middleton will now be on
the sidelines for a week or two
while they wait for their next
opposition from either, Clinton,
Wingham or Listowel.
The Legion Auxiliary pee
wees were eliminated in two
• straight, losing on Exeter ice 7-5
Tuesday and losing in St. Marys
5-2.
The Exeter Kinsmen midgets
dropped the first game of their
best-of-three set in St, Marys by
a 3.0 score and lost a heart
breaker 5-3 in overtime on
Exeter ice, Friday. •
GLOVER GETS THREE
Pete Glover scored three goals
to lead the bantams to their 9-0
win over St. Marys in the
opener. Robbie Lindenfield
checked in with two goals while
singles were added by Peter
Kleinstiver, Don Kirk, Randy
Gilfillan and Robert Ryckman.
Randy Preszcator was the top
playmaker for Exeter with three
assists to his credit while Perry
Stover and Kleinstiver each
assisted on two scoring plays.
Doug Parker was in goal for the
winners to record the shut-out.
ANOTHER `HAT TRICK
In the second game of the
series, won by Exeter 7-0, it was
Robbie Lindenfield's turn to go
on a scoring spree, picking up
three goals.
Peter Kleinstiver was close
behind with a two goal effort
and singles were added by Pete
Glover and Brad Klumpp. Assists
were picked up by Scott Litt,
Randy Gilfillan, Randy
Preszcator, Perry Stover and
Klumpp.
Bill Inch was in the Exeter
nets and gained the shut-out.
FINAL MINUTE LOSS
The Exeter midgets with a 3-2
lead and less than a minute to go
in the game gave up a goal and
were then edged in overtime in
• their final game against St.
Marys.
Each team scored once in the
first period with Ron
Lindenfield registering the
Exeter score, The teams again
split even in the second with
Brian Bestard notching the locals
• counter.
At 13.03 of the final period,
Randy Preszcator, up from the
bantam club scored what looked
like it could be the winner. With
only 36 seconds left, Tony
Herlick scored for St. Marys to
send the game into overtime.
• Bob Noble scored twice for the
St. Marys club to ensure victory.

their 10.8 win over Port Elgin,
Tuesday,
At 14,26 of the final session,
Ross Dudgeon put Port Elgin in
front 8-6 and then, the L-I club
went to work. At 15.19, Bill
Neil streaked down the left wing
and caught the short side of the
net to cut the deficit to one and
only ten seconds later, Jack
Nairn got the equalizer on a hard
shot that bounced off the inside
bar of the net,
Another minute elapsed
before Jacques Cousineau fired
what proved to be the winner
and he was back at the 18
minute mark with an insurance
marker that sent the L-1 fans
home happy.
Cousineau was the top Jet
goal producer with a hat trick
for his night's work while Nairn
and Jamie Robb each found the
range on two occasions,
Other Lucan-liderton goals
were fired in single fashion by
Bill Neil, Dusty Aldis and Torn
Monteith,
FAIL IN THIRD
In Durham, Friday, the
Huskies scored two unanswered
goals in the third period to down
the Jets 4.2.
Ron Ryan of the jets opened
the scoring in the first period
with a hard slap shot from the
blue line that caught the top
right hand corner on a play
originated by Don and Bev
Urbshott,
Bev Allan got the equalizer for
