Mrs. Clarence Volland reported for the C.P. & T. committee stating that plants ▪ and treats were sent to shut-ins at Christmas. They plan a Euchre to be held around January 29 weather permitting. Mrs. Ed Corbett reported for the treasurer giving receipts to date. Arrangements were made for • the birthday party to be held February 5 when the Brussels Lodge will be the guests. Plans were discussed for the annual "Dessert Euchre" to be held in March. President Elgin Thompson presided for the meeting when new officers were appointed for 1969. President is John H. Corbett; first vice-president, George Frayne; second vice-president, • Larry Merner; secretary-treas- urer, P. L. McNaughton. June 17 was the date chosen for 1969 Twilight Fair. Next regular meeting will be held in the 100F Lodge Hall March 3. Mr. & Mrs. Laird Mickle spent • a few days last week holidaying in Toronto, and while there saw the hockey game between Torontp Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins. Saturday night they attended the concert presented by the Vienna Choir Boys of Austria, held at Alumini Hall, at • the University, London. Flowers in the United Church Sanctuary Sunday morning were in loving memory of Mrs. Manley Jinks, placed by the family. • Mr. & Mrs. George Ingram are - vacationing in Arizona. Thomas Kyle Sr., has been admitted to the Bluewater Rest Home. Mrs. Grant Bisback is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Bell and Sylvia visited Sunday with their • daughter and son-in.law, Mr. & Mrs. Ron Passmore, Michael and Mark in London, The executive meeting of Hensall DOW was held January 16 with president Mrs. Vern Alderdice presiding. Plans were laid for the year's work, Education for Kippen WI Kippen East WI held its education meeting at the home of Mrs. J.B. Sinclair, Seaforth, January 15. Mrs. Cecil Pullman was co-hostess. President Mrs. Ken McKay chaired the meeting. The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Vern Alderdice, Sunshine report, Mrs. Robert Kinsman; Historical research, Mrs. Charles Eyre, Two new members Mrs. J. Wall and Mrs. Harburn were presented with their Institute pins and handbooks. Mrs. M. Connolly and Mrs. Harry Caldwell will head the next 4-H girls club "Meat In The Menu" and will attend Clinton Leaders' School in Ontario Street Church. It was decided to hold the February meeting at Huronview when a program will be presented to the patients. There will also be a bus trip May 28. Mrs. Cecil Pullman gave the motto "Examples set for us by past generations and the results" which was prepared by Miss Margaret McKay. Mrs. Pullman concluded with a poem. Mrs. Sinclair introduced guest speaker Mrs. Allan Fraser, Exeter. She presented a display of fairy lamps of different kinds of glass. She showed pictures taken on her trip to France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Holland, England and Scotland. Mrs. Fraser was thanked by Mrs. Pullman. Mrs. Sinclair read an article by Bruce West, columnist of the Globe and Mail. A contest was conducted by Mrs. James Drummond and lunch was served by the hostesses and the committee in charge, Mrs. J. Chalmers, Mrs. Joyce Cooper, Mrs. Ken McKay and Mrs. Rodger Hoornaert. Miss Mary McCann of Mt. Carmel was the guest for a few days last week with Miss Pamela Sangster. Mr. & Mrs. Keith Lindsay and family, Bridgeport, Mr. & Mrs. Bryan Underwood, Gorrie, and Miss Sylvia Henderson, Toronto, were weekend visitors with Mrs. John Henderson and family. Mr. & Mrs. W, Murdoch Stewart and son Donald, of Lake Forrest, Ill., U.S.A., attended the birthday celebration of the former's father, Duncan Stewart who celebrated his 102nd birthday at Huronview Tuesday. Rev. T. Hughes of Watford conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church Sunday. Mrs. R. MacLean who has been a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter for the past several weeks was able to return home Saturday, Mrs, Leona Parke has been confined to her home for the past few weeks owing to illness. Ronald Beaton of London spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Bev. Beaton. Miss Linda Mock RNA of Toronto visited during the past week with her parents, Mr. & Mrs, Ron Mock and family, Mrs. Donald MacKinnon and sons Donald and Brant of Alvinston spent Sunday with Mrs. Janet MacKinnon. Chiselhurst ladies learn of China The theme song and prayer opened the January meeting of Chiselhurst UCW President Mrs. Thos. Brintnell who chaired the meeting brought thoughts for the New Year, Mrs. Alvin Cole presented the worship service. Mrs. Edwin Dick offered prayer. An all day quilting and pot luck dinner was held in connection with the meeting. Mrs. Russell Brock gave a very interesting message on China, taken from the new study book. Mrs. Clarence Coleman read the presentation address. The life membership pin was presented to Mrs. Taylor by her daughter Mrs. Jack Brintnell. "Grampa Babysits" was given by Mrs. Roy MacDonald. Batt'n Around —Continued from page 4 costumes into white jackets — came through the door carrying a suckling pig and everyone quickly pushed his way into the lineup for a treat of roast pork and — you guessed it — sauerkraut. During the course of the evening, there were many medals handed out by Prince Walter in recognition of special efforts during the evening, and even yours truly returned home with one. However, no one needed a medal for having attended such an event. It proved beyond any doubt that we Canadians have much to learn from our new fellow citizens and also that the ethnic groups within our midst make us much richer in many ways. • • Henson and district news CORRESPONDENTS Mrs. Maude Hedden, Phone 262-2002 Mrs. Bertha MacGregor, Phone 262-2025 The first meeting of the year for the Senior Womens Missionary Society of Carmel Presbyterian Church was held Thursday afternoon when 14 members answered the roll call with membership fees and a New Year's resolution. President Mrs. R.A. On opened the meeting with the reading of a hymn. Mrs. Harvey Hyde gave the study and devotion on the new form of missions and the new acts of missions. Mrs. Malcolm Dougall read the different passages of the Bible while Mrs. E. Munn read the prayer of missions. Vice-president Mrs. George Walz gave the report of the sick and shut-in parcels that were packed and distributed for Christmas by the members. President Mrs. Orr right after Glenn Bell; literature and Injury suffered by figure skater Miss Troyann Bell had the misfortune to have her foot spiked while figure skating and had surgery on her ankle last Wednesday in Seaforth Community Hospital. Carmel church ladies hear from African missionary presented a Life Membership Certificate to Mrs. George Walz for a well-earned reward. The Huron Presbyterial which was postponed because of snow storms will be held January 29 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Clinton. Mrs. Schwalm received a letter from Miss Hazel MacDonald of Goderich who left December 11 for Kenya, Africa, to a Mission school in the mountains (over 7,000 feet altitude). A Christmas service she attended lasted over two and a half hours with children taking part in the pageant, choir singing, and even the vice-president of Kenya, Saniel Mai giving a brief message to the congregation jam packed in the church, Next meeting will be held February 13 with roll call "With Love".
