close out year
The Leeen Scants and Cubs
had a Christmas Party as the last
meeting of the year last
Tuesday.
There were 2Q boys present,
and their leaders, Gordon Froats
and Tom Darr. Also present were
Mrs. Froats and Mrs. Barr with
some smaller children.
The party started with a
singsong around the campfire,
Aftermany games had been
played they each opened their
presents,
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Froats and Mrs. Barr.
The boys attended the Lucan
United Church for the Vesper
Service, Sunday, Dec. 22.
Arrangements have been
made for a bottle drive,
Saturday, Jan. 4.

took the service Sunday morning
at Clandeboye United Church.
Flowers at St. James Church
were given in memory of Reg.
Winser. During the service Glenn
Cunningham, Allen
Cunningham, Rev. R. A. Carson,
Alton O'Neil and Mrs. Jim
Cunningham offered candy to
the youngsters.
Mrs. Edith Hodgins has gone
to Toronto for holidays with her
daughter Mrs. Roberts.
Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT and
Explorer members visited
Strathmere Lodge in Strathroy
Saturday and delivered shut,in
boxes. Those in the community
who were remembered were Mrs.
John Whitmore, Mrs. Ross
O'Neil, Gordon Cunningham,
Mrs. John Hewitt and Mrs. J. H.
Paton, Miss Aggie Northgrave,
Mrs. 0, Derbyshire and Mrs.
Robert Hornell.

Six contest
Warden post
The contest for the
wardership of Middlesex county
will be a six-man race, according
to announcements Made by
members at County Council's
supper meeting.
Those who will seek the
position are reeves Frank
Hamilton of .Glencoe, Wilson.
Hodgins of Biddulph Township;
RayMond Lewis of Lobo
Township and Cyril Pigrarn of
North Dorchester Township, and
reeves-elect Murray Davis of
Westminster Township, and
Percy Jones of West 'Nissouri.
Township,
The latter two represented
their municipalities as deputy
reeves in 1968.
Reeve John McNaughton of
Newbury announced he would.
not seek the post this year unless
he is especially required to do
so.
The warden will be elected
Jan. 3.
ANGLICAN
The Lucan Anglican Church
choir have a program of special
music and carols arranged for
the Carol Service, Christmas Eve.
Sunday, December 22, the
Choir sang the Christmas anthem
"Allelujah, Praise the Lord," and
the theme of Rev. R. A. Carson's
sermon was "A Babe."
Christmas Eve, carols and
Christmas hymns will be sun
from 11-11:30 p.m. At 11:30
p.m. the service will open with a
Christmas anthem, followed by
the service.
The Sunday School will have
a special Christmas service, Dec.
29 in the church at 9:45 a.m.
followed by Holy Baptism and
regular Sunday Service at 11
a.m.
Mr. Carson will preach on
"Christmas Kindness."
BASKETS PACKED FOR
CANCER PATIENTS
Mrs, Harold Hodgins,
president, and Mrs. Clarence
Haskett, chairman of the
Committee, helped to pack
Christmas baskets for cancer
patients.
Thanks to donations from
Lucan merchants as well as
private people, the baskets were
well filled, and will bring much
pleasure, as well as usefulness, to
the recipients.

The ladies of the Lucan
Pentecostal Church Women's
LUCAN
Christmasparty
for lops girls.
The ladies of the Lucan Tops
Club, held their meeting last
Wednesday With seven members
present.
The weigh-in at Mrs. Gary
Mackenzie's home was not too
good.
The ladies then went to
Lankin's Service Station for the
doll draw. The winning ticket
was drawn for Mrs. Davison of
Strathroy, by Mrs. Robert
Holland.
The ladies exchanged gifts
and had a happy Christmas
party.
LADIES' TURKEY BOWL
The Lucan Ladies' Bowling
League held their turkey bowl
recently. Winners were: Marg
Elson, Jean Isaac, Marg Young,
Pat Hodgins, Ruby Windsor and
Maureen Craig.
Auxiliary held a special
Christmas meeting last
Wednesday with eight members
present and Mrs. Gordon
McDonald in the chair.
Mrs. Howard Currie, Mrs. Ed,
Butler and Mrs. Gordon
McDonald supplied a dinner.
There was a short business
session and worship service. A
skit presented by Mrs. Currie
and Mrs. McDonald, was well
received.
UNITED CHURCH
The Sunday morning service
was conducted by Rev. C. J.
Scott. The evening carol service
was performed by the
Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT.
The first reader was Bonnie
Brooks and the second,
Catherine Worthington. The
candle-lighter was Brenda
Herbert. Janice Freeman sang
the anthem.
The Rev. Scott gave the
offering prayer.
Mrs. James Delman and Miss
Elizabeth Harrigan spent a few
days with their sister Mrs.
Gerrard Muldoon in Hamilton.
Miss Ruth Morkin of
Hamilton is home for the
Christmas season with her
parents Mr. & Mrs. Leo Morkin.
Mr. & Mrs. George IvIcthan
from Belmont, Manitoba, visited
A. M. Hedden.
Mrs. Elle Hedden, son Heber
and daughter Carol visited Mr.
Hedden,
Mrs. Redden is still in
hospital and hoping to be home
soon.

MRS. PERCY ARMITAGE
Viola (Mardlin) Armitage,
London, formerly of Lucan,
passed away suddenly in St.
Joseph's Hospital Wednesday.
She was 57 years old.
Her husband, Percy Armitage,
predeceased her,
Survivors include one
daughter, Mrs. Charlie
(Florence) Metters, Prospect
Hill; one son, John of Oakville.
three sisters, Ivory Mardlin and'
Mrs.• Gordon (Marjorie) Davis,
London; Mrs. Ralph (Areta)
Noble, Lobo; and two brothers,
Gray Mardlin, Dresden andd
Sylvester Mardlin, London.
Funeral was from the C.
Haskett and Son Funeral Home,
Lucan, Saturday. Interment was
in Siloam Cemetery. The Rev.
Gordon McDonald officiated.
WILLIAM HASKETT
William Haskett, 77,
Concession 16, London
Township, passed away in
London Wednesday. He was a
lifelong resident of the
community.
Survivors include his wife, the
former Lottie Dundas; two
daughters, Mrs. Roy (Olive)
Griffin and Mrs. Clifford
(Margaret) Simpson, both of
London; one son, Harold of
Denfield; and one sister, Mrs.
Thomas (Irene) Wheeler,
London.
Funeral was from the C.
Haskett and Son Funeral Home,
Lucan, Saturday. Interment was
in Denfield Baptist Cemetery
with the Rev. A. R. Newsham
officiating.
JOHN WILLIAM COCHRANE
John William Cochrane, 64
years old, passed away suddenly
at his late residence, • Beech
Street, Lucan, Friday.
He was the son of Mrs. Edgar
Sparks and the late William
Cochrane of Hamilton.
Service was conducted by the
Rev. G. W. Sach at the Murdy
Funeral Home, December 23
with interment in St. James
Cemetery, Clandeboye.
Mr. Cochrane is survived by
his wife, Marion Davidson;
daughters, Mrs. Leo (Shirley)
Doyon, Sudbury, Mrs. Ken
(Jean) Allen, London, Ruth of
Cochrane, Louise, St. Thomas,
Roberta of London and Marie at
home; one son Bill also at home.
Pallbearers were Armand
Kernick, Bernard Avery, Ivan
Culbert, Ivan Ream and Jim
Davis.

Reginald George Winser, 60,
London, passed away Monday,
December 16 in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London.
He is survived by his wife, the

the past 18 years.
