Sometime before the day ends, we ii4ually have a sing-song of some of the best loved carols with the kids taking turns at the Piano. It isn't a very polished performance but no one in the family seems to care. An d always we seem to take time out to count our blessings. It may _start with the children saying thank you for gifts they have received, but generally it leads to a discussion about the bountiful goodness of God who has preserved us throughout another year. For a warm home, sufficient food, adequate clothing, eye sight, hearing, the ability to work and play, good schools, love, health, sound mind, skills, freedom . . .(this list can go on and on) . we are grateful. What better day than Christmas day to say "thank you"? * * This year when the Kellers get around to saying their thanks for blessings they have received, I will include a big "thank you'; for the many friends I've made in my short time at •the T-A as women's editor. You readers have made my job so much more rewarding through your interest. Not one request for help has gone unheard. Someone always comes forth with the solution to any given problem. If this space is enjoyed by T-A readers it is because it has been a joint effort of many, many people throughout this area. My one hope for the new year is that this goodwill Fill continue to grow between us. * * * Speaking about co-operation from our readers, Mrs. Mervyn Cudmore showed up at my — Please turn to page 13• ravometegctimtramtveAtt«geoa s, Don Taylor Motors 235-1100 Exeter Your Authorized Volkswagen Dealer Huron's Youngest and Most Progressive Dealership Christmas Day 1913 Miss Minnie Hall, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Hall of Wellburn was united in marriage to William Elford, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Elford of RR 3 Exeter by the late Rev. Gaisford at Huron Park who accidentally illYented tasty-.. and very attractive luncheon dish earlier in the day, The. lady had PrePared a favorite dip for a party she had the evening before, As so often happens, some 'of the dip was left over in the morning so Mrs, Gaisford piled the dip in an avocado half, added wedges of cheddar cheese and tomato and some lettuce and celery as garnish to make a luncheon dish very much appreciated by her husband. She gave me the recipe for the dip — nice, she suggested, for a New Year's Eve party, She serves it with chips or crisp crackers. PARTY DIP 1 small tin devilled ham 1 tsp. horseradish (more if you like) 1 tablespoon grated onion 1 cup sour cream 1/4 tsp. salt Mix all together and chill until ready to serve. * * * If you are not ready yet for Christmas girls, I'm afraid it is going to be one of those years when Christmas dinner is a delicious hodge-podge of last minute goodies — and gifts are more appreciated because there are fewer of them. I know about things like this, for happen to be one of those women who puts off everything until, the last second only to find that moment is filled with unexpected duties. Consequently I'm never ready for anything (I wasn't even prepared for my own wedding). Christmas at our house is wild. The house never does get the proper cleaning it should have; the baking and cooking is seldom done in time for pre-Christmas entertaining; the gifts don't get wrapped until the very last hour before Santa arrives and then, laziness often sets in so that some remain in the store's paper with only a hastily scribbled card which reads, "Love, Santa." And Christmas dinner doesn't take any traditional form at our home. The day before Christmas I ask my family what they would like to eat — usually they say turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, mixed vegetables and cabbage salad. I throw in a few garnish dishes — like cranberries, a jellied salad and maybe some hot rolls. For dessert, ice cream suits everyone just fine, with maybe a piece of mince pie 'or Christmas cake. Still every Christmas is happier than the last one. I like to think it is because our family is one year older and has had another 365 days of loving and being loved. As long as we're together, Christmas is a happy time. There are some parts of our Christmas which are traditional with our family. As Lutherans, our children have their annual Christmas program on Christmas Eve and for as long as we've had a home, Christmas Eve has been Our Night. We attend church to hear the marvellous Christmas story told in verse and song. It sets our sites on the coming of a Saviour and puts Santa Claus in the proper perspective. After church we go to Grandma's house to deliver gifts and have a cup of coffee and some Christmas cake with the rest of her family who all, somehow, aksamble together on Christmas Eve. In the morning we're up early (what family isn't). There are presents to open, of course, and a dinner to start before Christmas morning church service. After dinner we rest and laze and lounge — completely at ease until we get the urge to make a turkey sandwich for evening lunch in front of the television. plavilatv.4.1volvagrgioecemovveromen May a happy ; and a peaceful g Yule be yours. 1'1 And many thanks! 1110reen Hai*Stileii treellibri Ph, 234.4593 ykiiCiiit444.040641.04441.0e1.042:004i, issaistailltilin I Cbristmas blessings _ ,,,, di, 1-,--- ,figis ® . v4, aL.
