Bob Fraser from the Bryanston Calf Club, won the North London Kiwanis award for top beef showman. John Dewan from the Lucan Calf Club won the Scott's Elevator award for being high member in the Lucan Calf Club, and the Ken Carter and Son Award for the top member in the Crop Club. Dave Armitage from the Bryanston Club won the North London Kiwanis award for top Dairy showman, and also received a reward for having six Club projects with over 75 percent average. Doug Adams of the Bryanston Club won the Bryanston WI trophy presented to high member in the Bryanston 4-H Calf Club, who had never previously won this award. Gerard Dewan of Lucan's two clubs won the Lucan Junior Farmers' award for being high showman in the Calf Club. He also won the Lucan Produce and Storage award for being the second high member in the Crop Club. Jack Mardlin of the Bryanston Club was high member in the Bryanston Calf Club. JUNIOR FARMERS MEET The Lucan Junior Farmers held a meeting in the Maple Lodge Community Centre recently with 25 members present. Plans were finalized for the Christmas dance and for entering a float in the Ailsa Craig Santa Claus parade. It was also decided to donate a trophy to the Lucan 4-H Calf Club Mr. & Mrs. Evan Hodgins were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. & Mrs. William Bannister in London. Mrs. Bob Coleman, who spent a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Wm. W. Garrett in London, after being rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment, is now back in her own home on George Street. Mrs. Jane Somerville celebrated her birthday, Friday, December 13, with a family gathering. Mrs. M. H. Hodgins called on Mrs. T. C. McFarlane and Miss Lina Abbott, at the McCormick Home Sunday, taking both a delicious box of fruit and candy from the Lucan Clandeboye CGIT and Explorers. Brian Smith also called on Miss Abbott. Mrs. Hugh Toohey has spent the past three weeks in St. Joseph's Hospital and hopes to be home soon. D. A. Ashworth is again selling Christmas trees, the proceeds to be donated to the Anglican Church. Patrick Morkin of Vancouver is home with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Leo Morkin for the Christmas season. He will return Explorers. make tree decorations Lu can-Clandeboye Explorers held the last expedition of the year last Monday with 32 Explorers and three counsellors participating. The Christmas worship was conducted by Anne Revington and Lorraine Lewis, Mrs. Don O'Neil read a story entitled, "The Brightest Star." Games were played under the direction. .of Mrs. -Keith Kraul, and the girls practised the new anthem. "The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy," as well as many carols. They each made a Christmas tree decoration to take home. All will attend the CGIT Vesper service in a group, December 22. The next Exploration will be held in January, in the New Year. Hugh Toohey and James Maher spent last week in Minnesota attending the funeral of Walter Maher, 52, who died suddenly there. Miss Margaret Kelly stayed with Mrs. Mary Bennett during that time. Mrs. Eldon Hodgson entertained Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Hodgson (bride and groom) Saturday. Mrs. Albert Cowan was visiting her many friends in Lucan last Monday. ANGLICAN The Rev. R. A. Carson conducted Holy Communion Service for the A.Y.M. in the Holy Trinity Church Sunday morning. He then invited the young people to breakfast which he prepared for them. Mr. Carson was in charge of Sunday morning service. One baby was baptized, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Edginton, Jeffrey Daryl. The sermon was based on the Union of the Churches. The Sunday School children's pageant was much enjoyed in the evening. It was entitled "The First Christmas" and started with the Virgin Mary as a child playing with other children. The Church was darkened and the children came in carrying flash-lights. As the story proceeded through the life of Mary, the Junior Choir sang appropriate hymns. The Church was darkened between each scene and when the manger was first seen there was just one star shining above it which was very effective. The children performed their various parts well whether as angels, shepherds or wise men. Ron Crudge and Harry Dickson were in charge of the lighting. The Ladies' Guild met last Wednesday to decide the allocation of funds. ANGLICAN EUCHRE PARTY Mrs. Evan Hodgins' group of the Ladies Guild held a euchre party in the basement of the Anglican Church. The following were the prize winners: ladies' high, Mrs. Wm Mathers; men's high, Joe Carter; ladies' lone hand, Mrs. Carter; Minor .clubs sweep clean By J, E. BURT The Christmas spirit has started to show around the centre. The Dorchester Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget teams visited here at the centre last Friday night, and had the old spirit as Lucan won all three games. In Pee Wee it was 6-1, in Bantam 5.2. This, by the way, was the best game that the Lucan Bantam team played this year, and their first win against good competition. The Midget team won 7-2, so this was a sweep. The Lucan Minor team won Saturday over Stoneybrook 10-2, with Jim Benn being the big gun with five goals. I expect to have a very busy holiday period with ice rentals etc., so I would like to take the opportunity at this time, on behalf of the Lucan Recreation Committee, Wilf Hodgins and myself, to wish all our patrons a very special Merry Christmas and a prosperous and happy new year. SANTA AT CRAIG The Ailsa Craig Santa Claus Parade was held last Saturday. Although the Lucan Junior Farmers entered a float they were not among the three award winners. These were the Ailsa Craig Rovers, Mrs. Danty Malcolm and the Ailsa Craig Cubs and Scouts. men's lone hand, Thomas Emery; ladies' low, Mrs. Alex Young; men's low, Mike Culbert. The next party will be held January 14. PENTECOSTAL The regular Sunday morning service was in the charge of the Rev. Gordon McDonald. The evening service was taken over by the Sunday School. Each class had an item on the program and the junior Choir sang hymns between the items. The children gave the Christmas Story in a pageant when they were all dressed appropriately. Shepherds were shown sitting around being joined by other shepherds. A Christmas hymn was sung as if the groups were telling the story to the other group. Joyce Butler read a poem. UNITED The Rev. Charles J. Scott, Padre at the London Psychiatric Hospital, was in charge of the morning service at Lucan United Church in the absence of the Rev. W. C. Tupling. HI C The Lucan Hi C held a meeting last Sunday evening in Lucan United Church with 16 members present. Bert Walker was chairman and Donna Walker and Jim Hearn led the worship service. Lunch was served by Bert Walker and Grace Smith. A skating party has been arranged for December 26 at the Lucan Arena. After skating the Party will continue at the home of Mrs. Dave Park where hot chocolate and cookies will be served. Tops members. make resolutions The Lucan Tops Club held its regular meeting last Wednesday with seven members answering the roll call. The co-leader MS. Don McRobert was in charge of the meeting.. The weigh-in was satisfactory, The weight report for the year was read, and found to be not as good as anticipated. All. members made a resolution to try hard to do better next year. Names were drawn for presents at the Christmas Party to be held at the Shillelagh Restaurant after the Doll Draw at the Shell Service Station. There were two mystery prizes won by Mrs. Gary McKenzie and Mrs. Don McRobert. Bible Society holds meeting The Lucan group of the Canadian Bible Society met in the United Church, Wednesday last. Mrs. Sheridan Revington as chairman of this group had charge of the meeting. The Rev. R.A. Carson opened the meeting with a worship service. Ways and means of promoting the Canadian Bible Society in this area were discussed. Treasurer Mrs. Cliff Culbert reported a balance of $334 which was forwarded to the Society in London. The meeting closed with prayer, led by Clarence Frost. Couples gather The Couples Club of Lucan United Church met Thursday evening at the church for a potluck supper and Christmas' party. Only one couple was unable to attend. Ed Melanson was in charge of the meeting. There was a discussion on aiming to raise enough money to purchase another folding door for the C.E. building. Christmas presents were distributed by George Carpenter and Ernie Ross. A poem was attached to each present, written by the unknown donor, and these caused much laughter. The Lucan pre-Christmas meeting was held at the home, of 1‘1. H. Hodgins with 17 members and two visitors present. It opened 'with a pot-luck lunch, each member having brought a dish. Mrs. Frances Saward, vice-president, took the chair in the absence of Mrs. Frank Hardy. There Was a short business session and it was decided to donate a sum of money to the Quinn family for pots and pans, or other necessities they may need, when they settle in their new home. The Lucan Lions Club held its regular meeting in the Anglican Church basement Monday. This meeting had been planned for a family Christmas party night but that idea was postponed to January 6 owing to conflicting engagements for many members. There were 19 members present representing an 83 percent attendance. At a short business session, it was reported that only 30 tickets remain unsold for the New Year's Eve dance which will feature a midnight supper served by the Saintsbury ladies. Arrangements were made to distribute Christmas baskets to needy people next Saturday. This is a joint venture between the Legion and the Lions. Two lucky draw winners were Lion president Harold Butler and Lion Gerry Van Bussel. Various committee reports Plan bus trip for L-C girls The Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT held their meeting last Tuesday in the Lucan United Church with 34 members present. It was decided to donate $7 to Clandeboye Sunday School. A bus trip is being arranged for December 30 to London for shopping in the Mall, a show and supper at the Country Fare Restaurant. Most of the evening was devoted to a rehearsal of the Vesper Service which will be presented next Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Lucan United Church. Miss Reta Chown was at the organ. Members will be Carol singing for shut-ins in the district next Friday starting at 7 p.m. It was, reported that, the Arena Board had granted permission for the 4-H girls to. Use the kitchen faeilitie$ Saturdays, for the duration of their cooking course. Mrs, Cecil Robb gave comments on the motto, "Christmas is Always," and Mrs. Seward presented the Christmas story in reading and song. Mrs. F. H. Jolliffe gave a talk on some of the old English Christmas customs, followed by the presentation of the gifts each member had brought for her "Secret Friend," After these were opened Mrs. were read, Lion. Bob Taylor reporting on the Cubs and Scouts and Lion Clare Stanley on the Saturday morning hockey group. LIONS TURKEY BINGO The Lucan Lions held a very successful turkey bingo last Wednesday in the Lucan Legion Hall. The holders of the winning tickets' were Gerry Van Bussel and Peter Ferron. The bingo winners of turkeys were W. Hall, D. Root, Mrs. D.F. Ankers, D. Butler (2), Mrs. Wm McFalls, Mrs. H. McFalls (3), Mrs.J. Haskett and Mrs. E. Mosurinj oh n. Where there was more than one bingo in a game, the following received chickens: W. Hall, W. McCatham (2), F. Young, Gary McFalls, Jas. Donaldson, C. Nory and Mrs. W. McCatham. The first share the wealth game of $10 was split four ways. The second share the wealth game was won by D. Root, another $10.
