TURNER To live at Varna • • 4 • 0 Miss Gayle Turner, niece of the groom as flower girl wore a white velvet empire-style dress with red velvet trim at thg bodice and a white velvet bow as headpiece. The velvets used in the bride's gown and her attendants' gowns were imported from Du Belle of France. Each attendant carried a white pearl basket of white carnations to match the bride's. The best man was William Turner of Varna, brother of the groom, and the ushers were Gerald. Rathwell and Edgar Willert, both brothers-in-law of the groom. Music was provided by Mrs. G. W. Sach at the organ and the soloist Miss Wendy Elston of Centralia. At the reception held at the Lucan Community Centre, the mother of the bride received her guests in a three-piece peacock blue wool suit with matching hat, black accessories and a corsage of white carnations. She was assisted by the groom's mother who wore an off-white metallic brocade two-piece suit, black hat and accessories and corsage of rose-coloured carnations. Read This Page Each Week Baskets of white mums decorated the Lucan United Church November 30 for a candlelight, double-ring ceremony when the Rev. G. W. Sach and Rev. W. C. Tupling united in wedlock Sandra Janette Abbott and David Webster Turner. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald M. Abbott, RR 1, Lucan, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Turner, RR 1 Varna. Given in marriage by her father, the bride had chosen a floor-length, white velvet Empire style gown with lace bell-shaped sleeves. The long train which fell from the shoulders was in matching lace. The four-tiered elbow-length bouffant veil was caught up with a dainty floral cluster. She carried a white pearl basket of white and red-tinted carnations. Miss Linda Smith, as maid of honor, Miss Janice Abbott, sister of the bride, and Miss Brenda Turner, sister of the groom, as bridesmaids, wore identical dresses of red velvet, empire style, with white lace at the bodice and red velvet bows as headpieces. It was , a night of goodbye speeches Tuesday as members of SHDHS board met for the last time before the new county board of education is officially empowered after the first of January. Principal J. L. Wooden expressed his appreciation to the board for their co-operation through the years; W. D. Burton spoke briefly about his pride in the school; chairman Jack Morrissey praised his associates for their efforts on behalf of the ratepayers; Elmer Bell spoke for the board who admired the "tidy ship" captained by Morrissey; and Garnet Hicks used glowing terms to congratulate Wooden and Burton for a job well done. Morrissey summed up the whole sequence of speeches with these words. "I think we're turning over a highly efficient school to the new board of education." Although the mangement committee hesitated to enter into any new salary agreements with SHDHS employees, it agreed to pass along a recommendation to the new board regarding salaries for clerical, maintenance and administrative staff. I, Jones sang a solo accompanied by Mrs. Tom Barr which was enjoyed by all, There were 22 people present, including the Rev. and Mrs. W. C. Tupling and one visitor, the Friendship unit providing the kitchen help and the program. ANGLICAN The Rev. R. A, Carson was in charge of the Sunday service at the Lucan Anglican Church. The theme of his sermon was "It's time for the Lord to act." He asked the congregation to look at Society, the progress of Science, while there is a regression of moral and ethical behaviour. He said "Jesus came to save us from ourselves." The Christmas Pageant will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. A.Y.M. The young people of the Lucan Anglican Church held a plasticware party in the Parish Hall. ' Mrs. Earl Knoblauch showed various pieces and talked about their use. ANGLICAN CHURCH WOMEN The Anglican Church Women met at the home of Mrs. Earl Atkinson last Wednesday. President Mrs. Jack Murdy opened the meeting with prayers and Bible reading. It was agreed that the same slate of Officers would continue for another year. Legion ladies pick officers The Ladies Auxiliary of the Lucan Legion held a meeting last Tuesday to nominate and elect new officers for the coming year. Mrs. Doug Ewen was elected Sergeant-at-arms; Mrs. Patrick Grudge, past president; Mrs. A. E. Reilly, president; Mrs. Jim Burt, first vice-president; Mrs. LI o y d Mason, second vice-president; Mrs. Ralph Rummell, secretary; and Mrs. Russell Goddard, treasurer. Mrs. Harold Butler, Mrs. Dwight Ball, Mrs. Gerald Lewis and Mrs. Harry Bond were elected executive officers. Two new members were installed. The ladies will be catering to two Christmas dinners.
