Baskets of white mums
decorated the Lucan United
Church November 30 for a
candlelight, double-ring
ceremony when the Rev. G. W.
Sach and Rev. W. C. Tupling
united in wedlock Sandra
Janette Abbott and David
Webster Turner.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Donald M. Abbott,
RR 1, Lucan, and the groom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
Turner, RR 1 Varna.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride had chosen a
floor-length, white velvet Empire
style gown with lace bell-shaped
sleeves. The long train which fell
from the shoulders was in
matching lace. The four-tiered
elbow-length bouffant veil was
caught up with a dainty floral
cluster. She carried a white pearl
basket of white and red-tinted
carnations.
Miss Linda Smith, as maid of
honor, Miss Janice Abbott, sister
of the bride, and Miss Brenda
Turner, sister of the groom, as
bridesmaids, wore identical
dresses of red velvet, empire
style, with white lace at the
bodice and red velvet bows as
headpieces.
It was , a night of goodbye
speeches Tuesday as members of
SHDHS board met for the last
time before the new county
board of education is officially
empowered after the first of
January.
Principal J. L. Wooden
expressed his appreciation to the
board for their co-operation
through the years; W. D. Burton
spoke briefly about his pride in
the school; chairman Jack
Morrissey praised his associates
for their efforts on behalf of the
ratepayers; Elmer Bell spoke for
the board who admired the
"tidy ship" captained by
Morrissey; and Garnet Hicks
used glowing terms to
congratulate Wooden and
Burton for a job well done.
Morrissey summed up the
whole sequence of speeches with
these words. "I think we're
turning over a highly efficient
school to the new board of
education."
Although the mangement
committee hesitated to enter
into any new salary agreements
with SHDHS employees, it
agreed to pass along a
recommendation to the new
board regarding salaries for
clerical, maintenance and
administrative staff.
