The year-end meeting of the
Ausable River Conservation
Authority was held in Parkhill,
Wednesday, with regional
government being one of the
topics up for discussion.
The matter, which is drawing
discussion at many meetings
thesedays, was in reference to
what would happen to
Authorities under regional
government when existing
municiPalitieS disappear.
A recommendation was to be
presented at the meeting urging
that. "serious consideration be
given to the legitimate concern
of these Authorities to retain the
watershed unit as a basis for
both identity and
representation."
If passed, . this resolution
would be circulated to all
Authorities in Ontario and
would then be passed on to the
Ontario government
departments involved with
regional government and
conservation authorities.
While little opposition was
expected for that resolution,
there was expected to be a
debate over another motion that
called for a new setup in regard
to maintenance of dams in the
watershed.
At the present time, Exeter
pays 90 percent of the Ausable's
cost towards maintenance of the
Morrison and Exeter dams.
Under the proposal, dam
maintenance of these two sites
and also the Parkhill dam would
be levied in the same manner as
the administration levy with all
