Hawks lose
to Hespeler
The Exeter Hawks were
unable to overcome an early
three goal deficit as they bowed
to the Hespeler Shamrocks 6-4
on Exeter ice, Friday in a
regularly scheduled Ontario
Hockey Association Junior "C"
contest.
The Hawks record now stands
at an even two and two. Their
next start will be on home ice
tomorrow night, Friday when
the Preston Raiders supply the
opposition.
The New Hamburg Hahns
lead the league at the moment
with eight points to their credit.
SCORELESS IN FIRST
The Hawks were unable to
find the scoring range in the first
period and found themselves on
the short end of a 2-0 count
when the first period ended.
Rick Walker and Bill tallied
for the visitors in the first period
and Norm Cusarin upped the
Hespeler margin to three goals
early in the second.
The first Exeter goal came.
from the stick of Scott Burton
at 12:30 of the second session.
Assists on the play went to Bill
Bourne and Dan Anderson.
The Hespeler lead was cut to
a single goal early in the third
when Jim Hayter beat Bill
Burgess in the Hespeler nets on
an unassisted effort.
Hespeler responded quickly
and were able to restore their
three goal edge on scores by Ken
Cripps and John Rolland.
Then it was the Hawks' turn
to get on the score sheet and
they did on two occasions in
short order. Hayter clicked for
his second of the night, again on
a solo try and Burton also
After three weeks of hockey
the coaches are getting better
acquainted with their players
which is improving the calibre of
play in Pee Wee house league.
After this week's games
changes will be made where
necessary in order to balance the
teams. A second pee wee and
bantam all-star team will be
selected and games with other
teams will be arranged.
Practice or game time for
these two teams will be on
Tuesday night with pee wee's
and bantams from 7 to 8. Larry
Willert will coach the pee wees
and Bill Fairbairn will handle the
bantams.
Over 200 boys have registered
for hockey this season which is
the largest number of
registrations we have had for a
long time. Talking about
registrations the figure skating
club has a large enrolment this
year with 110 so far. This is
about all that can be handled,
particularly in the beginner
classes.
notched his second goal of the
game on a play originated by
defenceman Pete Lawson.
With the Hawks pressing to
get the equalizer, Keith Chester
-broke loose and counted an '
insurance marker for Hespeler.
John Bierling was in they
Exeter nets replacing regular
goalie Glenn Stire, who was
sitting out a suspension for
throwing his stick in an earlier
contest.
Former Exeter minor
performer Frank DeVriese was a
solid performer on the Hespeler
defence.

the present Tuesdays will be

and everyone in the area is
welcome.
The Flyers with Terry
MacDonald replacing injured
Danny Brintnell in goal went on
to defeat the Jets by a score of 4
to 1. Wayne Regier got the lone
goal for the Jets who by the way
were minus their goalie and
captain for this game. Noel
Skinner had the "hat trick" and

things to come, competition in
the Exeter and district
Recreation hockey league will be
close this year.
In the first game of the
doubleheader, Thursday,
Graham and Graham shaded the
Old Timers 9.7 and in the
windup in an equally tight
contest, the Bank Boys edged
Huron Park 10-9.
Tonight's action pits Graham
and Graham against the Bank
Boys at eight o'clock with the
Old Timers tangling with Huron
Park at 9:30.
LOTS OF SCORERS
In the night's lidlifter with G
& G chalking up a 9-7 victory,
only one player on each club
was able to score more than one
goal.
Jack Glover notched a pair of
markers to lead the Graham
scoring attack with singles being
picked up by Ed Kerslake, Otto
Smale, Bob McMillan, Craig
Davidson, Cliff Webber, Doug
McBride and Tom Watt.
For the Old Timers, Paul
Mason was the only double
scorer. Checking in with single
counters were Don Campbell,
Don Heywood, Bill Farquhar,
Ron Moore and Larry Willert.
HAT TRICK LEADS
A three goal scoring effort
turned in by Paul McKnight led
the Bank Boys to their 10-9
squeak over Huron Park. Coming
close to equalling McKnight's
performance, but having to
settle for two goals each were
Lloyd Moore, Bob Jones and
Pete McFalls. Adding the other
BE score in single style was Cy
Blommaert.
Frank Boyle and Grady
Bonner each fired two goals to
head up the Huron Park scoring
barrage. Single markers were
fired by Ben Bennett, Larry
Brintnell, Don Hart, Rod
Hippern and Ossie Oesinghaus.
The schedule for the Rec
league follows with the eight
o'clock game listed first in each
case.

and Paul Mohr took care of the
scoring for the Hawks with Brian

taking this one with a score of 5
to 2. The all-stars were taken out
of these bantam teams and this
gives the rest of the players,

• II means giving up
a few extras.
Volkswagen's air-cooled, rea r-mounted engine means you'll miss out on
optional equipment like cement blocks, tire chains and anti-freeze.
You'll also miss out on pushbutton windows and pushbutton seats with a
Volkswagen too. But not having all those gadgets to push on
a Volkswagen isn't all that bad. Not when you consider that you
won't have to push the Volkswagen.
