Bible canvass not completed While canvassing has not been completed on the recent fund drive by the Canadian Bible Society, returns are considerably lower than a year ago. Treasurer Howard Ince reported a total of $590 had been received by Tuesday night. Due to a misunderstanding, some portions of the town have not been canvassed as yet. Ince asks that if anyone wishes to make a contribution to this worthwhile cause they leave their donations with him at the Bank of Montreal. Usborne wants payment for fire Usborne council has a $400 fire call bill they want Exeter council to help pay. The bill came about as the result of a car fire in Woodham in August. The Exeter Fire Brigade was called, but declined to answer the call due to a misunderstanding as to the exact location. Mayor Jack Delbridge explained that at the time it was understood the car was on the Blanshard side of the highway and the caller was advised to call the St. Marys brigade. The latter force arrived on the fire and found it was on the Usborne side of the highway and billed Usborne $400 for the call. Usborne council has now suggested Exeter pay the difference between what they would have charged for the call and what was charged by St. Marys. The difference is about $265. Exeter council decided Monday to consult with their solicitor before making any decision. Ironically, it was noted at the meeting that the car which caught fire was probably valued at less than the St. Marys fire call. Exeter .P.xceetletl. the Capacity of the $4nders. :Street substation„that is owned by the .Ontario Hydro, To provide for these .constantly increasing loads, as well as providing a still more reliable source of electricity, the Exeter PUC has erected new substation on Wellington Street that now serves the area north. of ..Sanders Street. This substation was erected at an approximate cost of $45,000 and Was paid for out .0 existing funds, It' was anticipated that a small debenture would be required to finance this work, however, this was not necessary, This station has a capacity approximately 25% greater that the. Sanders Street Station. The Exeter P.V.C. received a large increase in the wholesale. cost of power last year and has received another small increase for 1969. While the Commission cannot continue to absorb the increase without some adjustment to its customers, the erection of this new station should greatly reduce any increase that may become necessary. By providing its own substation, the Commission purchases approximately 50% of its power requirements at a reduCed rate. The Sanders Street Station, owned by Ontario Hydro, will still remain in operation to serve the areas south of Sanders Street as well as small areas on the fringe of Sanders Street.
