Season opens for Jets

in first exhibition start

The Lucan-Ilderton Jets
• started off on the right foot in
their first exhibition game of the
season. downing the St. Marys
Lincolns by a decisive 11-5
count at Centralia's Huron Park
arena, Tuesday.
The Jets will be playing in
Ontario Association
Intermediate "B" ranks while
the Lincolns are participating in
the Central junior "B" loop.
A crowd of more than 300
watched an exciting brand of
hockey with the emphasis on
offensive play.
The next start in pre-season
action for the Jets will be
Tuesday night of next week
when Esquire Hotel of London,
an OHA intermediate "A" team
will supply the opposition at the
Centralia rink.
• Most of the scoring for the
L-I club was taken care of by
former St. Marys junior stars.
Jacques Cousineau was top goal
getter for the night blinking the
light behind the St. Marys net on
five occasions and added a pair
of assists.
Barry Hearn notched two
goals and garnered the same
amount of assists while Jack
Nairn was another double goal
getter.
The balance of goals for the
winners were picked up in single
fashion by Ron Ryan and Bob
McIntosh. Ryan was the top
play maker of the night as he
recorded assists on five scoring
plays by his mates.
Bill Riordan scored twice to
lead the St. Marys scoring attack
while single goals were added by
Dennis Henohason, Wally
Parkins and Dennis Stead.
In addition to Cousineau,
Hearn, Ryan and Nairn other
former Lincolns in the
Lucan-Ilderton lineup were
Doug Galloway, Dusty Aldis and
goalie Jim Mikita. The latter
shared the goal tending chores
with veteran netminder Keith
Scarborough.
Co-coaches Steve Storey and
Ron Ryan dressed more than 20
players in an attempt to get a
good look at their charges in
actual competition.
Hard skating Bill Chipchase
and defenceman Larry ,Willert of
last year's Exeter junior Hawks
saw action in the first half of the
game.
Lucan's Mr. Hockey, Harvey
Langford dropped the puck at
the opening face-off to get the
season officially underway.
