A meeting followed the dinner with President Mrs. Garnet Allan in the chair. Ten dollars was donated to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Highlights of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary convention held at Ottawa were given by Mrs. Allan and Mrs. Grant Bisback who attended as delegates, Bowling teams will participate in the bowling tournament at Exeter this month, Mrs. Harold 'rhea won the mystery prize and also the attendance prize. Mrs, Wilmer Dalrymple won the guessing prize. A Sacral hour of cards was enjoyed and coffee and an anniversary cake was Served, patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. R. A. Orr received word recently that their son Warrant Officer Donald Orr now stationed with Shape Headquarters in Belgium is on a six week course in the southern part of Italy. His wife Margaret is accompanying him there. The Carmel Presbyterian ladies will be attending the Fall Presbyterial in Auburn Wednesday, October 9 at 1:30 p.m. Miss Dorothy Bulmer, a missionary teacher in Ohafia, Nigeria, Africa, will be the guest speaker. The. Auburn W.M.S. are also celebrating their 80th anniversary. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Jewell and daughter Miss Maridon Jewell of Dutton spent Sunday with Mrs. Harry Caldwell and Jack Robert Mickle, U.W.O. London, spent Saturday with his United Church plans for youth The "Hi-C" of Hensall United Church commenced their fall activities by meeting in Fellowship Hall Sunday evening. Following discussion on program planning, a recording "Don Lonie Talks to Teen-Agers" was played. Mr. Lonie in his humorous and unique way conveyed what teenagers themselves thought the 3 R's of life should be. These were respect, responsibility and Religion. It was decided to meet on the second and fourth Sunday evening of each month. The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, October 13 and will follow the "Thanksgiving Theme". All high school students in the community are cordially invited to attend. World Wide Communion Sunday will be observed next Sunday morning at 11. a.m. Thanksgiving Service will be held October 13 when the Sacrament of Infant Baptism will be administered. parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laird i Mickle. Mrs. Eric Kennedy and Ira Geiger spent the past week on Manitoulin Island. They were guests of Mr. & Mrs. Sidney Geiger at Gore Bay. They were accompanied on their trip by Mrs. Kennedy's friend, Mrs. C. A. Playle of Port Credit. While on the Island they motored from one end to the other and from one side to the other and saw all the places of interest. The scenes were particularly beautiful in beautiful Autumn colors. PERSONALS Almer Passmore returned home from St. Joseph's Hospital, London, last Wednesday. Mrs. William Thomson, Exeter, and Mrs. William Rohde called at the Dinney Funeral Home Thursday where their cousin, the late Ephriam Hem, lay at rest. A large number of people called at the Hopper-Hockey Funeral Home Thursday and Friday where the late Orville Cann lay at rest. Many also attended the funeral Saturday. Wand Mrs. Glenn. HOOPER BLANSHARD The third meeting of "Crafty Crusaders" was held at the home of Mrs. Ken Parkinson September 17. The group discussed covers and picked the design. Uses for blanket stitch were shown and the feather stitch was demonstrated and a sample made. The fourth meeting of the "Crafty Crusaders" was held Wednesday at the home of Mrs. J. Thomson. At the next meeting in the Kirkton Hall, Miss Linda Laurette, the home economist for Perth, will show pictures of designs to the four Kirkton Clubs after which the girls will divide into clubs for regular meetings. The chain stitch and lazy daisy stitch were then demonstrated by the two leaders. Patricia Miner graduated and was the recipient of the PrineiPal's Prize to the outstanding student in Philosophy of Edneatitnit. She is, a graduate of SI-IDHS, Exeter and the Collegiate in Woodstock She is now on the teaching staff at Sarnia Public School. The flowers in the church Sunday were placed there in memory of the late Orville Cann by the family, Communion service will be Observed Sunday morning at the regular church hour. Elect officers for year Mrs. Sim Roobol who has spent the past two months visiting with relatives in Holland, returned home Monday of this week. Her father who is recuperating from an operation, is improving slowly. During the past week, guests of Mrs. H. McMurtrie were Mrs. Agnes Hotham, Murrayville, B.C; Mrs. Viola Yocom, Espanola, Ontario; and Mrs. M. Jackson, Bralorne, B.C. Agriculture and Canadian Industries will be the theme of 4 Hensall W.I. meeting at the Legion Hall Wednesday, October 9 when Elimville and Staffa branches will be special guests. Roll call will be "A Canadian manufactured article used in the home". Mr. and Mrs. Robert Erb of Hensall have purchased the property of the late Mr. and Mrs. • William Shepherd on Nelson and the corner of Queen Street. They will get possession the first of November. Rev. Harold F. Currie conducted anniversary services at Porter's Hill United Church ▪ last Sunday. The student minister of the Hayfield charge, Donald Beck who is a student for the United Church Ministery attending. Emmanuel College, Toronto, conducted services in this church Sunday morning. Mr. Jim Venner, Hensall, is a Hensall WI hosts program Members of Hensall Women's r. Institute entertained patients at the Bluewater Rest Home, Zurich, Tuesday evening. Highlight of the evening included toe tapping selections on the banjo by Don McCurdy, violin by Frank Forrest and guitar and mouth organ by Bill • • Clement. Solos in costume were performed by Mrs. George Hess with Miss Greta Lammie accompanist. Mrs. T.J. Sherritt led a sing song and Mrs. James McAllister,a fun session.
