Exeter Sweet Corn Club and
Larry Skinner, RR 1 Centralia
had the best corn on display.

Patti Passmore,
Sheila Hem was second in
special projects, followed by
Jack Hodgert, Dwight
Etherington, RR 1 Hensall and
Sandra Raker, RR 2 Dashwood.
Douglas Trewartha of Clinton
swept all awards in the Huron
County 44-I forage club taking
the hay Project and the special
exhibit prize.
Duncan Etherington, RR 2
Hensall placed second in both
divisions. Following Trewartha
and Etherington in the hay class
were Dwight and Darcy
Etherington and Ted Kernick,
RR 1, Kirkton.
Completing the first five
placings in the special project
were David Marshall, RR 1
Kirkton, Dwight Etherington
and Charles Miner, RR 3 Exeter,
Activity in the two calf clubs
increased over a year ago with
15 calves parading,
David Marshall, RR 1
Kirkton, Alan Hem, RR 1
Woodham and Debbie Riddell,
Hay PO had the top calves in the
different divisions of the dairy
club and Marshall also walked
off with the showmanship
award.
In the beef section, Paul
Passmore, RR 3 Exeter showed
the best senior steer and Gerard
Dietrich, RR 1 Centralia has the
best junior heifer calf.
Hurondale 4-H
begins project
The first and organizational
meeting of Hurondale No. 2 4-H
Homemakers was held
September 6 at the home of Mrs.
H. Dougall.
The project this fall is
"Cottons May Be Smart." It
consists of making a cotton dress
and keeping a record book.
Members will learn what to
look for when buying good
quality cottons, and how to
choose becoming lines and
colors to suit themselves.
Officers are, President, Lynda
Dougall; vice-president, Patsy
Faber; press reporter, Dianne
Oke.
The discussion was planning
the dress, color flattery,
becoming lines and choosing the
fabric for quality, finish and
design.
The leaders of this unit are
Mrs. Harry Dougall and Dianne
Oke.

Mrs. Albert Harlton will
celebrate her 90th birthday
Sunday at her home in Lobo.
Mrs. Harlton was born near
Brinsley, the daughter of Joseph
Sholdice. Her only surviving
daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Vercoe,
resides in Arizona and will be
unable to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carter,
Clandeboye, were honored
during the weekend at a dinner
at the home of their daughter
and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Allan Lewis on the occasion of
their 30th wedding anniversary.
Those attending were Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Broom, Carolyn and
Sandra, Mr. and rs. Don Lewis
and Jimmy, and Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Martin, all of Exeter; Mr.
and Mrs. Wayne Rowe,
Woodham; Miss Myrna Carter,
Clandeboye; Mr. and Mrs. Archie

attended the funeral of Mrs. Gus
Autenrieth, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. Schroeder, formerly of
Dashwood, at St. Mark's
Lutheran Church, Utica, Mich.,
and the burial in Detroit,
Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Gaiser of
Dearborn Heights, Mich.,
returned home after spending a
few days with his brother,
Chester.
John Hayter and Otto
Restemayer are patients in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller and
girls of Zion were Sunday
visitors with Mr. ad Mrs. Irvin
Rader and family.
Joe Linden, Miss Vera Linden
and Milton Hodgins, all of
Denfield.
Gifts were presented to the
celebrants and the evening was
spent playing euchre.
Lloyd Lynn is still a patient
in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London. He is some better.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Millson
and boys visited Mr. and Mrs,
Millson and family Sunday.
Debbie, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Gerald Millson attended
Thed ford Fair Thursday evening
and won three firsts with her
horse.
Ernie Bice is still a patient in
Victoria Hospital.
MODERN MISSES
Members of Clandeboye
Modern Misses studied the
feather stitch, the lazy daisy and
the chain stitch at their last
meeting at the home of Mrs.
R.B. Worthington Saturday.
Miss Donna Stewart, London,
home economist, will attend the
October 19 meeting.
MRS. RUSSELL SIMPSON
Mrs. Russell Simpson, the
former Maggie Witherspoon,
passed away Monday at her
home in McGillivray Township
at the age of 79 years.
She was the youngest
daughter of the late Joseph and
Mary (Ellwood) Witherspoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Simpson celebrated
their fiftieth wedding
anniversary July 1, 1966.
She is survived by her
husband; three daughters, Mrs.
James (Lois) Brintnell and Mrs.
Robert (Jessie) Munro, both of
London; and Mrs. Joseph
(Grace) Leger, Germany; one
son, Stewart of London; and
several grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held
from the Murdy Funeral Home,
Lucan, today (Thursday) at 3
p.m. with Rev. Frederick G.
James, rector of the Anglican
Church, Brinsley, in charge.
Burial will take place in St.
James Cemetery, Clandeboye.
Pallbearers are Andy
Thompson, Tom Gilmour,
William Atkins, Arnold Kilmer,
Harold Dauncey and Dennis
Little.

Funeral service was held
Saturday morning at the Murdy
Funeral Home, Lucan, for Mrs.
George Dixon, 70, RR 3
Ilderton, who died Wednesday as
a result of a traffic mishap.
The former Matilda Dauncey,
she is survived by her husband;
three daughters, Mrs. Jack
(Janet) Arntfield, London; Mrs.
Robert (Laurine) Mills, London;
Mrs. Earl (Bernice) O'Brien,
Sarnia; one sister, Mrs. Tom
(Amelia) Gilmour, McGillivray;
and two brothers, Orme (Doc)
Dauncey, London, and Verne
Dauncey, Woodstock.
Rev. Johnston of the
Anglican Church at Ilderton
conducted the service. Interment
was in Mount Pleasant
Cemetery, London.
Pallbearers were Clair Hall,
Ken Mitchell, Finley McKinley,
Scott McNair, Carlyle Henderson
and A.B. McNair.
